This period of my life meant so very much to me. The Amiga 500 was such an amazing computer I bought by pure luck back in 1987. The force of creation was incredible with the people who utilized the machine. Amazing music and cool beautiful graphics that often didn't portray anything except the amazing skillz of the people who produced it. All this without the internet. There was BBS'es sure, but these people created it all! Thank you Anders for giving these people an honorable remembrance. And of course thanks to everyone who was part of this culture!
Naw.. I only did like four songs and this is the only one that's "worth" listening to: soundcloud.com/eox-studios/magnetic-robots . I don't think it ever found its way to any mod archive, but I haven't really checked that. :)
For those who interested, download Assembly 92 winner demos in all leagues: 256 byte, 1k, 4k and 64k (oh, and megademo too :) ). You'll be amazed with the magic of what good ol' 386 can do. Even 286, sometimes.
Yeah, there are so many great ones out there. I couldn't possibly fit all of them in only seven minutes - and I'm sure I have forgotten to include some great ones too. I've lost track of them over the years. But hopefully people will search for them if this video piques their interest. :)
Anders, you made great video with most famous demos of that time, with cool music of yours! No offense to you. My comment for those (younger) who might get interested in the topic after watching your video.
To masz Yup, it’s from Pinball Dreams and Fantasies (I think Olof used the sample on both, I just browsed through all the mods in my Pinball folders and grabbed the ones I felt could work) :)
Awww, the demoscene of the 90s is etched into my memory as something magical. The incredible for the time effects, the beautiful pixel art and the awesomely catchy music - just, aww: )
I keep thinking that we lost something with the improvement of hardware, as people stopped trying to make the best of what they had and instead chased (photo)realism in all things.
Awesome work! Excellent tune and excellent tribute to a great era of computing; I wasn't around for the scene back then, but I got really into watching them a few years back and have a lot of respect for everyone involved then. A truly amazing time for technology :)
This is absolutely amazing! It mixes familiar elements, both from your music and from modtracker files and demos, and completely new elements as well. This manages to create something that seems very new, but is also familiar at the same time. :)
Ben H. Thanks! I’m glad you feel it that way. The plan was to create something atmospheric of that era. So much stuff out there, but only so little time to squeeze it into. ;)
Anders Enger Jensen You're welcome! I'm happy to report that your plan succeeded! I would love to hear an epic composition (however long that may be) that contains all of your ideas for this song. :D
Ben H. Well, most of the original is in this song. Not much was left out, as it was rather incomplete. I have added almost more than I had alone in the original, but the overall feel and more has been preserved. I do have some more song in the pipeline that I will revisit and beef up this way though. Just need to focus on finishing Retro Grooves Vol. 3 and the games I'm working on right now. :)
Anders Enger Jensen Ok, cool! I just want to say that I recently received a boombox and as soon as I can get it working I will most definitely buy Retro Grooves Volumes 1 and 2 (and 3 once it's out). :)
First time I got both sight and hear senses be that pleased. Thank you so much for making this video and the music, and I'm thankful for those awesome guys that made the demos!
Every one of your releases is just on point, I could listen to this all day. Was blasting this out with the window open, had some strange looks from people walking past, not that I took much notice. Keep up the good work!
That Second Reality Demo - well, it's still sitting on my computer's HDD, ready to run in DOSbox whenever I want. And no, that is NOT a recent download, it's been sitting there since the mid-90's. :-) And I've got some other PC/DOS demos on disk that were not shown in this video (of course, too many to show them all): Radioactivity by ICSPC (from Hungary) Amnesia by Renaissance Coldcut by UltraForce Comademo by The Brain Slayer Cronologia by Cascada Dragnet by Dutch Computer Enterprise Hexappeal by Cascada Timeless by Tran Uneatable Demo by The Coexistence Unreal by Future Crew -- all of them, to my knowledge, are from 1990-1995. Some if them were simple, looping quite quickly, others need more than 15 minutes per run.
Good question, I actually don't know. I want to believe it's either from a Fairlight sample back in the day, or maybe something in the lines of a KORG Wavestation. It has that kind of PWM quality to it. I think we need to ask Olof Gustafsson about that. :D
Mmmmhhh~ That sweet 90s Amiga samples~ Yeah, demoscene really influencing game development industry, one way or another. Epic Games is the most notable developer.
Yeah some of them, but they kinda split. Skaven went to art school and pixel became some designer for an ad agency. No idea what the guys are doing now.
I was in bad mood this morning, started the Gathering, the world is bright and shiny again 🙂

Don't forget my favorite, Maniacs of Noise!
You made me to go back 20 years in time . Thank you.
Fernando Sancho You’re most welcome. :D
Did you released songs in tracker format in that years? It would be nice to search them in modarchive :-D
Naw.. I only did like four songs and this is the only one that's "worth" listening to: soundcloud.com/eox-studios/magnetic-robots . I don't think it ever found its way to any mod archive, but I haven't really checked that. :)
I think i found it modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=49033 It reminds me the style of Necros.
This definitely needs more attention
One of my favorite pieces by Anders! 😊
Jesus - that was like a mix of Space Debris, Enigma, Black & White, Evolution and more MODs awesome
I love the sound. So much nostalgia!

6:13 Pinball dreams - instrument sample

PInball dream.. and fantasies...1 word: WAUW

Super tune.. and what a trip down memory lane.. (Y)
It's very reminiscent of both Dave's 8-bit theme.......and Sonic the Hedgehogs Dreamcast outing. lol
I keep thinking that we lost something with the improvement of hardware, as people stopped trying to make the best of what they had and instead chased (photo)realism in all things.
Thank you for your music. God Bless you

This kicks so much ass

Amazing video! The things old computers could do makes me admire them much more, and the music was superb!
First time I got both sight and hear senses be that pleased. Thank you so much for making this video and the music, and I'm thankful for those awesome guys that made the demos!
I'm glad you did complete it! And as for the artwork - Wow!!!
Every one of your releases is just on point, I could listen to this all day. Was blasting this out with the window open, had some strange looks from people walking past, not that I took much notice. Keep up the good work!
Yasin_RGG90 Hehehe, cool. Hope the bypassers enjoyed it a little too. I don’t plan to stop anytime soon. Thanks! ;)
Is your music available to be used in other TH-cam videos?
Yeah, just credit and link to any of my channels. :)
So. Frickin'. Rad.
Another awesome track, dude! Keep 'em coming!
Ohh there were indeed lots of really great demos out there at the time! Great video and music Anders! Took me down the memory lane :)

Amazing
Very nice... :)
I know one of the instruments from the Pinball Fantasies MOD file. From which synth does it actually come from?

Games beget cracks, beget cracktros, beget demos, beget future game devs.
Ah, music
Awwww... *Second Reality*
IIRC, The Future Crew team evolved into the company behind Max Payne game classic.
Yeah some of them, but they kinda split. Skaven went to art school and pixel became some designer for an ad agency. No idea what the guys are doing now.
gumball!
