  • Thanks to Anthony Notarmaso, the vocalist of After The Burial, for taking the time to answer some questions! You can find all the questions I asked below. Also, I recorded this at the end of no-shave November which is why my mustache is so wild.

    QUESTIONS:
    - After The Burial has had an insanely huge year and it seems like you guys have been working nonstop ever since you released Evergreen in April. So, starting off, a lot of heavy bands start to lose their identity by the time they get to their sixth album. Did that happen as you got ready to go back into the studio or did you already have an idea of what you wanted to accomplish on Evergreen?
    - One thing you can always count on when After The Burial is getting ready to release a new album is a lead single that has an insanely groovy intro. We saw this with A Wolf Amongst Ravens, Lost In The Static, and Behold The Crown. Is that something you do on purpose?
    - Where in the writing process do those songs come in? Are they created first because it's fun to come up with the riffs or are they just like any other song until you identify them as the singles?
    - The music video for Behold the Crown was great. How did you guys come up with the idea to center it around a snowball fight and did that make the shooting process more fun?
    - I have always really enjoyed your higher screams because so few bands, especially progressive metal bands, use them. But you also have crazy good lows, the best example on Evergreen being Quicksand, and I'm curious why you don't do more of them?
    - One of the things I've noticed is that the band really seems to like having 9 songs on an album. Is that something you do on purpose?
-I saw you earlier this year when you played with Killswitch and Parkway Drive and you were injured, I think it was something with your back and you could barely move but your vocals were still perfect. Was it hard to pull off the screams when you could barely move? -What was it like having to be stationary for those shows?
    - In March of 2020 you're going to be headlining a month long European tour. Make Them Suffer is the main support which is awesome because you were their main support for the Australian tour you did earlier this year. Was it part of a deal you guys had or did you just think it would be cool to take them out to Europe after playing the Australia shows?
    - It might not be true anymore, but for the longest time A Wolf Amongs Ravens was your most popular song, which I always thought was interesting because it's the least similar to all your other songs. Why do you think fans likes it so much and why didn't you guys fully pursue that sound with all the positive feedback it received?
    - Out of personal curiosity, something I have to ask about is the airhorn in Laurentian Ghosts. Who came up with that idea and was anybody worried about fans hating it?
    - Do you have anything you want to say to the fans watching out there?

Awesome interview! It's awesome that you ask a few of your own questions that you've always wanted to ask. Mine is "will there ever be an In Dreams vinyl?"

This “Andrew P”... he does a great job holding a steady hand and asking great questions. I’ve been a big fan of After the Burial for a couple years, and I... got drunk and searched for interviews. Andrew, I can see you have a talent in holding steady under fire, asking the questions the people want to know. Hold strong 🇺🇸 💪🏼

the ONLY issue with WW was the mix. i think the mix on Dig Deep is way better, BUT the songwriting for that album was not their best, and i think there are obvious and unfortunate reasons for that. I think Evergreen is a massive improvement on both mix and songwriting fronts. im excited for the next album!
