My 2 buddies and I spent the 4 days in a row staying up until 5 am playing the early access, that was years ago and is still probably some of the best memories I have gaming period. We can’t wait until the full release!
Third most difficult-to-get-through character creator in a game ever. Pathfinder is crazy in-depth with it's classes. Levelling up in that game was a daunting task. There's 2 pathfinder games. Highly recommend checking them out if you enjoy this :)
I remember spending hours building characters in WoW's creator back in the day. Now that Blizzard is a soulless shell of its former self, I'm so glad this is the new gold standard.
You can’t change your face, but you can change parts you won’t see under the armor like 99% of the time. Doesn’t seem like an extensive character creator it just seems lazy
I wasn't paying much attention to it until some people who got to play the final release build at the final Panel from Hell started talking about this being Game of the Year, or RPG of the Decade type of game. That peaked my attention. The more I looked into it, the more interested I became. I love great stories in games, and player choices that cause a change in the game story, and BG3 seems to be heavily focused on those two designs. So I pre-purchased, as you get the digital upgrade pack free with a pre-purchase. Now just waiting, watching videos on the lore, history, and theories. Loving what I've seen so far. Only a week left.
I'm in the same boat. I bought this game pretty much the moment early access started. Played for six months and then forgot about it. So happy they've been working nonstop ever since.
I played a little bit in the early access and dropped it to not get tired of the unfinished game. I'm looking forward to playing in it some time after full release(though I'm going to have fun with character creater at the premiere day). I hope the optimization will be a bit better than in the EA.
Hope you enjoy it! Larian's pumped out a couple gems before this in Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2, and those of us who've played those games (and maybe a bit of early access for BG3 ) know this is gonna be something special.
I feel like this game will help introduce D&D to so many people including myself i always found it interesting but never knew how to start or find people for it. At least this will somewhat give me the feeling of playing it :)
I used to play the board game with my dad. I loved looking through the monster books and tracing all of the different dragon types out of the book. Some of the best designed dragons to date
If you want to look into D&D, Critical Role is a pretty great way to do it. It's a group of professional voice/improv actors doing a weekly D&D show on TH-cam. They do a really great job of playing their characters and telling a compelling story. I only watched the first campaign and the beginning of the second, but it was a good time. As a bonus, you'll be able to pick up on the rules to fifth edition pretty easily just by watching
Solasta is another game that uses D&D 5E rules very well and is a awesome if "rough around the edges" game from a smaller studio. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to dabble in D&D on their own.
Dungeons and Daddies is what got me into DND, it doesn’t take itself seriously but still gives the chaotic unpredictability and epic feel to the game well enough
me and my buddy played hours of early access definitely so much fun. I still remember when we where exploring inside a well and defeated a bunch of spiders and I walked up to a hole and my frog buddy told me it felt a breeze coming from said hole. I told my buddy " hey... i think my frog just told me there's something down this hole...." honestly this game is so HUGE!!!
This has the potential to be the greatest RPG ever made. And judging by the quality of divinity original sin 2 I can absolutely believe that it will be!

The reason your character doesn't transfer is because act 1 isn't a carbon copy if EA act 1. So if you finished act 1 in EA and kept going you may miss out on new storylines or items.
thats the confusing part, because if you preordered it they said 72 hours before launch and your progress will save..... but if its different....idk very confusing. i was gonna play the 72 hours early but i dont want to mess anything up.
@@GRAITOM The reason why progress doesn't transfer is because the early access version is not compatible with the actual game. The preorder gives access to the actual game 72 hours in advance. This means that people who preordered will get to play the actual game three days before it releases, instead of the early access version that is not compatible with the finished product.
@GRAITOM That is true, but I think because they changed the release date from like August 25th to August 3rd, they aren't doing the early release anymore. I just hope Act 1 is different enough to make it more interesting for me because I have already played Act 1 a few times, but we will see.

Larian IS the modern day bioware. Hopefully EA dont buy them out too. Also the miner details in this game are mind blowing . Based on the opening few minutes i got completely diffrent attitude from certain charcters.

Guess I am a horrible sicko seeking a challenge, I have been gravitating towards playing a "Dark Urge" Necromancer for my first time through. I am going to be beating my skull against a wall, a lot, but eventually those walls come down.
@@matthewtubbs1812 it will have 3 acts. Second act being the longest, possibly twice as long as the first one. I would expect third act to be the shortest.
One of the best RPG games i'v ever played, and that was only 100 hours of it during early access, i'v played dos 2, pathfinder kingmake+WOTR and tons of RPG games like the cyberpunk 2077 witcher 3, skyrim, all of ubisoft's assassin's creed games, all of blizzard's games and many many more games, i can't wait to to play the full version of bg3 and replay it at least 3-5 times
Yo it’s a little late but I wanna add one to this before you buy. If your buddy jumps into your game their character is permanently stuck with you, permanently restricting you a part member. So don’t let your friends into your main save.
I have over 60 hours on a single playthrough in Early Access. I am kinda a completionist so You can assume that It took me over 60 hours approx to just finish the first chapter. And it has 3 chapters in total. We will be having a helluva time with this one😍😍😍
Bought this game the second early access was available. I've played through every iteration thus far, and am still not only not tired of it, I'm excited as hell for full release!
Been playing a bit of EA to get my feet wet before release (you might wanna do that if you're not well accointed with the D&D world and/or turn base combat, because there's not really a tutorial of any kind, you're dumped directly into action).... ...and the game is absolutely A-mazing ! Just to add on about wanting to get a head start with early access on PC, Larian has said the release version will be a fresh install, so having the early access version downloaded on PC won't make it so you only have to download the new stuff.
If you preorder the early access version for PC before the official launch, doesn't that give you the deluxe edition bonuses at launch for free? Maybe that's an incentive to still buy the game before launch even though your early access characters won't transfer over.
First D&D experience, played EA for a few days, I dare say this game is now my favorite RPG over Dragon Age Origins which I never thought would happen. Granted I don’t think the starts are as varied as Dragon Age but I’m sure that will change at Launch. I can’t wait to be a necromancer wizard and the spore Druid so I can raise undead!
The early access for this game was better than most fully released games over the last decade so i cant wait for the full release....was a little upset my character wont carry over though 😂 but im happy to replay it
Im only used to the 3.5 version of D&D so getting in touch with 5e ruleset has been a fun learning proccess, I really like how spellcasting has been simplified.
@@eagleflies9515 The feature I dislike the most is that casters don't use their casting ability modifier to determine the attack rolls of certain spells. That means that in order to hit someone with scorching ray, a wizard used his dexterity instead of his intelligence to determine the attack roll, making dexterity something almost mandatory for casters. Also spell alocation is different, if you wanted to cast fireball three times you needed to reserve those three spell slots for fireball, instead of only preparing fireball one time and having the spell charges determine how many times you can use any of the prepared spells. I like the 5e system more because it leaves casters more space to incorporate utility spells into their tool box.
going to be honest, playing Balders gate 3 on EA release, I felt like not a lot of people talked about it which is why I'm glad it was a nice 20 bucks, but holy crap I feel like the closer it gets to release, there are so many people that know of it now, and it feels like it's everywhere, like its wild af.
Im honestly clueless as to why this is, I mean the game practically fell of the face of teh earth for years, and then suddenly its super mainstream. Pretty impressive and great for the game I hope.

I play Tabletop D&D and have been playing the early access for this game, and the way advantage works in the game is quite similar to the Tabletop variety.
I've always wanted to play tabletop RPGs with my girlfriend, but the effort and knowledge has really been the brick wall from us experiencing that together as we are both very novice to it. This game is going to be a literal godsend for us and I feel that we will have years of content to just get our fantasy vibes going. Literally cannot wait for this. this feels like a once in a lifetime sort of moment for gamers.
Early access has been a blast, the various classes slowly added over time have been fun to replay the initial chapter, and frankly, in those 3 years, not once have i completely finished all there is to do in EA version. That said, according to some information, a lot of small under the hood kind of changes will be made. Especially character creation and UI elements, but some quest/game-play things too, so whether EA is a good thing to jump into this late or not i leave up to debate, it might spoil some of the early parts as well as the feeling of finally playing those first hours of the game. I would advise to, if you buy it EA now, wait till launch so you can experience the full game right away. As for dark urge, they did repeatedly say you could resist the "Urge" if you want, the dice will decide how well that goes, but you are not doomed to be a bloodthirsty murder hobo because of it.
I would actually recommend getting early access to people who aren't really familiar with DnD to familiarize themselves with the mechanics. The learning curve is quite steep and the game doesn't really tell you much. So if you want to hit the floor running when the game comes out, getting into early access now is a good idea, even if your save doesn't carry over.
Even as a D&D veteran myself who has played *almost* once a week for the last ~5 years (if you know, you know) I second this opinion 100%. Bought the game about a week ago and sank
Or just get Solasta, which is another D&D game which sounds identical to the systems here. To the extent that the “changes and innovations” made to 5e here kinda look like a direct ripoff of Solasta… To be clear, I understand they are both based primarily on 5e. It’s specifically the changes that are exactly the same.
Dont use karmic dice unless you're planning on making all caster party. The additional hit chance enemies get from it is like you having a permanent -4 AC debuff on your characters, it destroys melee builds survivability without giving them sh in return. It gets worse and worse the higher level enemies you face.
You cannot customize Origin characters "as much as you want." You can choose how to level them going forward, and you can potentially respec them later on (though the game still treats them as their initial class), but you can't, for instance, decide Shadowheart doesn't have bangs.
That is true! The Shadowheart bangs has become quite the controversy, haha. First the bear scene and now the bangs - Larian just loves to stir the pot, lol!
I have been playing BG3 early release since it first was available and I have already set an entire week of free time up to play next week. I am so excited.
PC gaming is boss, true, but I like to relax, couch gaming is for me, so I have to wait for PS5 release, I am fully booked at work in August so that is a relief, cannot wait to play it in September tho, already took 5 days off so I can finish first chapter hahahahha
@@Svol09 No reason one can't couch game with PC! Especially so with a turn based game - I use Moonlight to stream it from my PC to my TV, using my phone or laptop to receive the controller input (and run Moonlight). Works great!

Im not sure how big of a niche this is but... The game came out on Steam for Windows. It is also compatible with MacOS but the Mac version on steam will only be available on Sept 6th along with the PS5 version. Just pointing this out because most media outlets (Gameranx included) bundle Steam launch together, but it is a different date for install on PC and MacOS. I don't have a windows machine for now so I had to look this up before picking PS5 or Mac (again, small niche but...)
Me too - it was in 2000 for me and I was 10, barely understood the English dialogue. 😂 Gave me an excellent start in the RPG genre and improved my English a lot.
I REALLY hope this game ends up being crazily good. Not only because i want a good game, but if this game ends up shattering expectations, the gaming industry might shift a little towards similar games in the future as it tends to do any time a game genre becomes really popular. I want this game to be good not just so i enjoy it, but so we hopefully see more games similar to it in the future that become popular as well. As a side note, my favorite moment in the early access when i played it was the goblin castle fight that has Halsin at the end(i think thats his name?). That fight (admittedly its probably cuz im not super amazing at the game) took me something around 2.5-3 hours to finish in its entirety, and every single moment of it was REALLY FUCKING FUN. I know they took steps to speed up combat a bit some time ago, but im really looking forward to there being other fights in the game that are super long. Feels really nice when youre fighting for a long time and you finally come out victorious with very few resources left knowing that you made everything count. Cant wait for the 3rd.
I almost don't recommend checking the wiki. It is so rewarding to discover the various sandbox elements of combat on your own. Like casting an ice attack on a pool of blood to freeze it and make enemies slip. I thought that was the coolest thing when i did it by accident
To anyone interested in this game, i will say it's amazing from what I've played. The number of choices you have feels almost infinite, and that's just with early access. As an example I bought the game for myself, my wife and two of my friends. Three of us have gotten about 20 hours of gameplay each and everytime we talk about the game its crazy the different expierences we have. Each talk has a "are we even playing the same game?" Moment at least twice. There is obviously a main quest that every player will expierence and that has limited choices. But the relationships, side quest and role playing during dialogue unlocks so many options. Of course this is all early access so take everything with a grain of salt, but I'm blown away by the diversity found in this game. If the game lives up to even 50% of what the EA promises, it'll be an amazing game.

@@Mathieu3424 My wife had really only played star dew valley and animal crossing before she tried BG3 and she loves the game. It can be a bit of a learning curve, as they said in this video, so take it slow if you do play.
My short review of early access: I don't normally like isometric-style RPGs. Logically I should be a big Diablo fan but I'm not. I really prefer third or first-person perspective experiences. But I decided to give this game a try because I realized it's got very similar vibes to Divinity: Original Sin and other similar Bioware classics, despite having the fiddly point-and-click to move around system I normally don't like. And the verdict is...well, I may still not be a fan of the perspective and controls, but I love everything else. The combat is fun. Punishing but very satisfying when you get it. Character design and interactions are great. I put around 30 hours into Early Access and could hardly tear myself away. Can't wait to play the full version with my friends - and solo too.
I can't wait for the full release. I bought it on day 1 of Early Access and already put in 20 hours. It would have been way more, but after exploring and enjoying what I played, I wanted to save the rest for the full release and not get too far and have to redo a bunch of stuff I had already done or be too spoiled. My one bit of sadness is that I'm going to be out of town next weekend, so I won't get to play until the next week!
My experience with the early access, which I bought a few weeks ago. The writing, voice performance and animation of cut scenes are amazing. However, the camera control is abysmal. Hope it's better in final release.
The store page for BG3 specifically says and has said for ages that characters wouldn't carry over past Early Access, so it really is odd that anyone would be confused on that. Though I know a lot of people don't read that kind of thing, or got gifted it out of nowhere, so I suppose your disclaimer was useful.
I'm so glad you mentioned the weapon abilities and the depth they add to melee classes. That was always a critique I had of tabletop melee which felt a bit flimsy compared to spellcasters.
One minor point of correction to what is overall a great video. The original Baldur’s Gate games was based upon Second Edition Advance Dungeons and Dragons RPG rules set. 😊
I still haven't finished Divinity 2 but I might finish this one given it is a whole new universe. I was upset they took too long, but given the content, and the depth in game mechanics. I'm ok with how long they took. Larian Studios never disappointed and was very generous with their offers in the past.
So looking forwards to starting playing this in just a few days. I am confident that i will have should have finished rolling my first character creation by November.
I really hope the city is just how they wanted it. I love it when devs make a city feel real and live, supposedly you can talk to over half of the people in the city
I usually love any game that I spend hours playing just the character creator. After playing a little bit of early access, I seriously cannot wait for this game. I didn't know how much I needed it in my life until I played!
1:01 It is worth noting that while it may not be worth it to get a head start, if you are the kind of person to preorder/buy in early access anyway, you'll get the deluxe edition for not extra charge. That works even if you buy it the day before.
I'd guess the simplication of spell caster multiclassing is little more than you can learn spells of any teir you have access to. As in regular DnD 5e you're bound to the limit of what the class could normally learn at the level it is, meaning the multiclassing really just gave you more options for upcasting

Yeah ive been on the "bring back splitscreen" bandwagon ever since i got married a decade ago. Its incredibly hard to find a game to play with the wife.
Try Neverwinter Nights, combat feels somewhere between Divinity OS and the BG games. It's D&D 3rd Edition rules, so it might feel familiar-ish without feeling as distant as the AD&D ruleset in BG1 and 2
It's because BG2 is a game in a time before everyone was on internet, another reality, which is in the 90's. I was playing this game on a Pentium MMX 32 meg Rams, sound blaster, 640x480p on a cathodic screen, VGA blue cable, not even 1 gig on Hard Disk so yeah. Now? HDMI cable, SSD, insane quick internet, etc.
Really stoked for it, a bit bummed i need to wait an extra month to play on PS5 though, i could had gotten it on PC but it just feels like the perfect game for cozy gaming on the couch while petting the dog so kinda wanted it on console.
They're releasing the PS5 version at the same time as Starfield, this is a huge middle finger to Bethesda and their console exclusivity lol Larian is making sure PlayStation fans get their own massive RPG at the same time as Starfield, they're really going the extra mile to make sure all gamers are having fun on Sept 6th.
Starfield looks underwhelming in comparison. Tbf I haven't really looked to hard into it but I did skim through their video where are the devs were talking about different parts of the game. None of it looked all that great, I hope to be proven wrong as I have a free copy but my expectations are low.
I personally don’t think StarField looks as good as what people are saying. I hope I’m wrong as I want ever game to be great, but from what the trailers have shown it looks meh. Plus, it’s from Bethesda and they have a pretty rough track record lately. With all this being said, I don’t think it’s a huge middle finger to StarField. Tons of games are coming out in September. Plus Baldur’s Gate 3 has the potential to be the best RPG of all time or at least of this generation, whereas StarField……… not really.

My main issue with StarField is that they bragged about being so big and having all these planets, yet every single screen shot we saw of the planets showed nothing interesting. All we saw were nice looking planets but nothing in the distance that makes you curious to explore. Look at RDR2s trailer for example. Every couple clips they would show you out in the middle of the world and in the distance there was a town, a camp, a cave, some ruins, etc. StarField had none of that. Plus the fact that it’s 30FPS and you can’t fly seamlessly from space to the planet really drive me away. I’ll definitely wait for reviews before getting it and I hope it’s a 10/10 game but man there are so many things to be concerned about with it.
Has a person who's always wanted to get into dungeons& dragons but have never been able to find people that play it 😢 I'm actually really excited maybe I will finally be able to have that adventure.
As a note, in the tabletop Advantage and Disadvantage are very specifically applied systems. Hidden from your target? This gives advantage. They take a shot at ou while hidden? THEY get advantage. Were you blinded? then your attack rolls are at disadvantage. is your rogue wanting to sneak attack? they can... once per round IF THEY HAVE ADVANTAGE on their roll... so attacking from stealth (hence calling it sneak attack) is a reliable way of doing so, etc etc. These are not random seeming things. It may be considered an algorithm in that there are certain tactical things and preparations needed to make it happen.. but it isn't unreliable. Karmic dice has been seen as a leveling thing... and a bad idea if you have been strategic at all, gaining high armour class as an example. For anyone who plans on having exceptional party members, with high stats and armour classes, it is a TERRIBLE idea. Roll the dice as true, and they will be truly random, with modifiers, not random, with opinions. 😁 As to the Dark Urge you can ALWAYS attempt to resist... it simply gets harder the longer you do so. Giving in once in a while to ease the pressure is likely a good idea if resisting is something you aim for... and aiming it at deserving enemies, instead of allies... Playstation release hasn't been delayed. It simply hasn't been moved up a month early like PC. PC players get free deluxe IF they have already bought early access, or order it NOW, before launch day. And Xbox WOULD have access if they didn't insist the lower end S console have all the same features (split screen specifically) as the full X console... which is taking time. They compromised on their hardware, the consumers compromised on price, so the devs need to work far harder to reach some level of parity... if they ever can. Here's to hoping.
I am HYYYYYYPED for some Baldur's Gate 3 action! I'm disappointed that I won't be getting 3 days early access (I'm on pc) but I"m happy to be playing a month earlier than Playstation. Totally looking forward to playing as my Dragonborne Sorcerer! :D
I played the original BG on PC when it came out. I think I had about 8mb of RAM and a 3.2GB hard drive. My graphics card was £30 and I thought that was a lot at the time, lol. The PC was around 800mz CPU I believe with Windows 98
I have never played DnD, yet i’m really interested in playing this game, especially for the story/roleplay. But tbh i do not know anything about this type of combat, the classes, spells etc. I’ve barely played rpg’s Should i still get this game?
I was a huge table top FRP (fantasy role play) fan and played many D&D campaigns for years when I was a teen. Video game fantasy games were so lame back then and never enjoyed them much. Even hit games like Diablo was actualy a hack'n slash, not a RPG. Everything changed when the first Baldur's Gate released. That was the first game that gave a proper D&D world and story as a video game. I played BG 1 & 2 many times. So after all these years, a passionate and talented development team like Larian who are fans of the BG games making a ridiculously detailed new one is like a dream come true. I believe this will be one of the milestone RPGs that will shape the genre like Fallout, Mass Effect and The Witcher 3.
Ive been playing BG3 since early access. There for every patch and change. I love it! I would just caution though that people dont "overhype" it. I find it always leads to disappointment because of Over Expectation Bias. Cheers all!
The amount of depth in this game is honestly kinda daunting. But I am looking forward to a good split screen experience with my wife :) I wish there were more good options for split screen coop
😞 "It lock you into certain choices where you have no control" 😞 I was really hoping the urge would be something you could resist! The fact that it can control your actions against your will, means its probably not a good first play through choice, sucks too cause the urge sounds like it would mix well with a dramatic vengeance paladin run.

Guys, I need someone’s opinion. I wanted to love Divinity Original Sun 2. I put around 20 hours into it, but as much as I tried, I wasn’t having fun, I felt lost, and I constantly died. I think I’m at least decent at games. I get a good amount of Platinum trophies, including stuff like Elden Ring, but maybe it’s the tedium of CRPGs that get me? Is that just an intended feature? I’m really interested in BG3, but is it not for me? I’m not sure if I like CRPGS, because none of them have clicked for me. I love most JRPGs and WRPGs. Should I take a chance on it, or save my money?
While it really doesn't sound like they have actually played D&D, as a lot of the stuff they say Larian has "changed" is actually stuff that comes directly out of D&D 5e, this is a very good and informative video for people looking to play BG3, and haven't played D&D. Good stuff 👍
What is this weapons having multiple special actions? And EVERYONE having bonus actions? Those are the only 2 things they said changed from 5e to here, and those are changes.
@@RolandHazoto The "Special" actions they talk about might be exactly that, but what they are showing on the screen while talking about it, is just properties on the weapons. Reading what that states, it reads as exactly what they are in D&D 5e. (With the Light, Finesse, and Thrown properties) Getting to the bonus actions. Shove is in fact changed to a bonus action, that is correct. It also seems that hide is, as well. But when we get to dash, it says "Cunning Action" leading me to believe, that this is just what the rogue can already do. "Dip" is, to be fair, also changed to a bonus action, instead of an action. Also just a mention, they talk about the "Spell Slots" mechanic as if its something Larian came up with, although I believe that is unintended, and they do know that it does come directly from D&D. All in all, sure I did unintentionally make it sound like a bigger deal than it is, I see that now. However, in my opinion, they still don't come off as actually knowing the 5e system that well, especially with the first point, being the "Special" actions, seeming to just be weapon properties.
Great video as usual. Im excited for this one, got it about 3 years ago in early access. As an avid D&D player can't wait to make some of my table top characters in the game or at least try to. Especially stoked to roll a dragonborn. :)
I got this game the day early access came out , and it is a really great game. Had like 67 hours on record, and they did a update that some how lost or made my 67 hour character not playable for some reason. Had to start over, and did like 3 hours. I am going to just wait until the official launch is out to start it again.

Third most difficult-to-get-through character creator in a game ever. Pathfinder is crazy in-depth with it's classes. Levelling up in that game was a daunting task. There's 2 pathfinder games. Highly recommend checking them out if you enjoy this :)
I remember spending hours building characters in WoW's creator back in the day.
Now that Blizzard is a soulless shell of its former self, I'm so glad this is the new gold standard.

I wasn't paying much attention to it until some people who got to play the final release build at the final Panel from Hell started talking about this being Game of the Year, or RPG of the Decade type of game. That peaked my attention. The more I looked into it, the more interested I became. I love great stories in games, and player choices that cause a change in the game story, and BG3 seems to be heavily focused on those two designs. So I pre-purchased, as you get the digital upgrade pack free with a pre-purchase. Now just waiting, watching videos on the lore, history, and theories. Loving what I've seen so far. Only a week left.

I bought this game pretty much the moment early access started. Played for six months and then forgot about it. So happy they've been working nonstop ever since.
I played a little bit in the early access and dropped it to not get tired of the unfinished game. I'm looking forward to playing in it some time after full release(though I'm going to have fun with character creater at the premiere day). I hope the optimization will be a bit better than in the EA.
The beta has been a long road, but it's going to be awesome. I'm already excited for whatever DLC they come out with.

I feel like this game will help introduce D&D to so many people including myself i always found it interesting but never knew how to start or find people for it. At least this will somewhat give me the feeling of playing it :)
I used to play the board game with my dad. I loved looking through the monster books and tracing all of the different dragon types out of the book. Some of the best designed dragons to date
If you want to look into D&D, Critical Role is a pretty great way to do it. It's a group of professional voice/improv actors doing a weekly D&D show on TH-cam. They do a really great job of playing their characters and telling a compelling story. I only watched the first campaign and the beginning of the second, but it was a good time. As a bonus, you'll be able to pick up on the rules to fifth edition pretty easily just by watching
Solasta is another game that uses D&D 5E rules very well and is a awesome if "rough around the edges" game from a smaller studio. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to dabble in D&D on their own.
For me, I can't stand the D&D element but I am always interested in CRPGs. So this has made it to my short list for games I must play this year
Dungeons and Daddies is what got me into DND, it doesn’t take itself seriously but still gives the chaotic unpredictability and epic feel to the game well enough
me and my buddy played hours of early access definitely so much fun. I still remember when we where exploring inside a well and defeated a bunch of spiders and I walked up to a hole and my frog buddy told me it felt a breeze coming from said hole. I told my buddy " hey... i think my frog just told me there's something down this hole...." honestly this game is so HUGE!!!
This has the potential to be the greatest RPG ever made. And judging by the quality of divinity original sin 2 I can absolutely believe that it will be!

The reason your character doesn't transfer is because act 1 isn't a carbon copy if EA act 1. So if you finished act 1 in EA and kept going you may miss out on new storylines or items.
thats the confusing part, because if you preordered it they said 72 hours before launch and your progress will save..... but if its different....idk very confusing. i was gonna play the 72 hours early but i dont want to mess anything up.

The preorder gives access to the actual game 72 hours in advance. This means that people who preordered will get to play the actual game three days before it releases, instead of the early access version that is not compatible with the finished product.

What I love about Larian is that as much as they are such a wholesome bunch, they can create such disturbing, chilling, and brilliant stories.
No more disturbing, chilling, or "brilliant" than what you would find within a young adult section at your local bookstore.

This is probably going to be the best modern western RPG in a sort of high/dark fantasy setting that we get for years. Cherish every moment it lasts.

One of the best RPG games i'v ever played, and that was only 100 hours of it during early access, i'v played dos 2, pathfinder kingmake+WOTR and tons of RPG games like the cyberpunk 2077 witcher 3, skyrim, all of ubisoft's assassin's creed games, all of blizzard's games and many many more games, i can't wait to to play the full version of bg3 and replay it at least 3-5 times

Yo it’s a little late but I wanna add one to this before you buy. If your buddy jumps into your game their character is permanently stuck with you, permanently restricting you a part member. So don’t let your friends into your main save.
I have over 60 hours on a single playthrough in Early Access. I am kinda a completionist so You can assume that It took me over 60 hours approx to just finish the first chapter. And it has 3 chapters in total.

Been playing a bit of EA to get my feet wet before release (you might wanna do that if you're not well accointed with the D&D world and/or turn base combat, because there's not really a tutorial of any kind, you're dumped directly into action)....

Just to add on about wanting to get a head start with early access on PC, Larian has said the release version will be a fresh install, so having the early access version downloaded on PC won't make it so you only have to download the new stuff.

First D&D experience, played EA for a few days, I dare say this game is now my favorite RPG over Dragon Age Origins which I never thought would happen. Granted I don’t think the starts are as varied as Dragon Age but I’m sure that will change at Launch. I can’t wait to be a necromancer wizard and the spore Druid so I can raise undead!

Im only used to the 3.5 version of D&D so getting in touch with 5e ruleset has been a fun learning proccess, I really like how spellcasting has been simplified.

@@eagleflies9515 The feature I dislike the most is that casters don't use their casting ability modifier to determine the attack rolls of certain spells. That means that in order to hit someone with scorching ray, a wizard used his dexterity instead of his intelligence to determine the attack roll, making dexterity something almost mandatory for casters.
Also spell alocation is different, if you wanted to cast fireball three times you needed to reserve those three spell slots for fireball, instead of only preparing fireball one time and having the spell charges determine how many times you can use any of the prepared spells. I like the 5e system more because it leaves casters more space to incorporate utility spells into their tool box.
going to be honest, playing Balders gate 3 on EA release, I felt like not a lot of people talked about it which is why I'm glad it was a nice 20 bucks, but holy crap I feel like the closer it gets to release, there are so many people that know of it now, and it feels like it's everywhere, like its wild af.
I recall an initial flair of interest when Early Access launched. But, afterward I don't recall hearing about it at all. So, you're right on cue.

I play Tabletop D&D and have been playing the early access for this game, and the way advantage works in the game is quite similar to the Tabletop variety.
I've always wanted to play tabletop RPGs with my girlfriend, but the effort and knowledge has really been the brick wall from us experiencing that together as we are both very novice to it. This game is going to be a literal godsend for us and I feel that we will have years of content to just get our fantasy vibes going.
Literally cannot wait for this. this feels like a once in a lifetime sort of moment for gamers.
Early access has been a blast, the various classes slowly added over time have been fun to replay the initial chapter, and frankly, in those 3 years, not once have i completely finished all there is to do in EA version.
That said, according to some information, a lot of small under the hood kind of changes will be made. Especially character creation and UI elements, but some quest/game-play things too, so whether EA is a good thing to jump into this late or not i leave up to debate, it might spoil some of the early parts as well as the feeling of finally playing those first hours of the game. I would advise to, if you buy it EA now, wait till launch so you can experience the full game right away.
As for dark urge, they did repeatedly say you could resist the "Urge" if you want, the dice will decide how well that goes, but you are not doomed to be a bloodthirsty murder hobo because of it.
I would actually recommend getting early access to people who aren't really familiar with DnD to familiarize themselves with the mechanics. The learning curve is quite steep and the game doesn't really tell you much. So if you want to hit the floor running when the game comes out, getting into early access now is a good idea, even if your save doesn't carry over.
Even as a D&D veteran myself who has played *almost* once a week for the last ~5 years (if you know, you know) I second this opinion 100%. Bought the game about a week ago and sank
Or just get Solasta, which is another D&D game which sounds identical to the systems here. To the extent that the “changes and innovations” made to 5e here kinda look like a direct ripoff of Solasta…

Dont use karmic dice unless you're planning on making all caster party.
The additional hit chance enemies get from it is like you having a permanent -4 AC debuff on your characters, it destroys melee builds survivability without giving them sh in return.
It gets worse and worse the higher level enemies you face.
Supposedly Larian has fixed this for full release. They announced this on reddit v recently
You cannot customize Origin characters "as much as you want." You can choose how to level them going forward, and you can potentially respec them later on (though the game still treats them as their initial class), but you can't, for instance, decide Shadowheart doesn't have bangs.
That is true! The Shadowheart bangs has become quite the controversy, haha. First the bear scene and now the bangs - Larian just loves to stir the pot, lol!

I’ve been geeked to the eyeballs on BG3 since its announcement 4 years ago, so it’s cool to see it break into the gaming/cultural mainstream.
I have been playing BG3 early release since it first was available and I have already set an entire week of free time up to play next week. I am so excited.
This one game motivated me to switch to PC gaming. It was the first game I bought in Early Access, and I can't believe we are just 7 days away.
PC gaming is boss, true, but I like to relax, couch gaming is for me, so I have to wait for PS5 release, I am fully booked at work in August so that is a relief, cannot wait to play it in September tho, already took 5 days off so I can finish first chapter hahahahha
@@Svol09 No reason one can't couch game with PC! Especially so with a turn based game - I use Moonlight to stream it from my PC to my TV, using my phone or laptop to receive the controller input (and run Moonlight). Works great!

Im not sure how big of a niche this is but... The game came out on Steam for Windows. It is also compatible with MacOS but the Mac version on steam will only be available on Sept 6th along with the PS5 version.
Just pointing this out because most media outlets (Gameranx included) bundle Steam launch together, but it is a different date for install on PC and MacOS. I don't have a windows machine for now so I had to look this up before picking PS5 or Mac (again, small niche but...)

Me too - it was in 2000 for me and I was 10, barely understood the English dialogue. 😂 Gave me an excellent start in the RPG genre and improved my English a lot.

I wish more developers had the same dedication to couch co-op and quality console ports for traditionally PC heavy RPGs.
I REALLY hope this game ends up being crazily good. Not only because i want a good game, but if this game ends up shattering expectations, the gaming industry might shift a little towards similar games in the future as it tends to do any time a game genre becomes really popular. I want this game to be good not just so i enjoy it, but so we hopefully see more games similar to it in the future that become popular as well.
As a side note, my favorite moment in the early access when i played it was the goblin castle fight that has Halsin at the end(i think thats his name?). That fight (admittedly its probably cuz im not super amazing at the game) took me something around 2.5-3 hours to finish in its entirety, and every single moment of it was REALLY FUCKING FUN. I know they took steps to speed up combat a bit some time ago, but im really looking forward to there being other fights in the game that are super long. Feels really nice when youre fighting for a long time and you finally come out victorious with very few resources left knowing that you made everything count. Cant wait for the 3rd.
You may want that but from what I've seen online, other game developers don't want that to be the case.
I almost don't recommend checking the wiki. It is so rewarding to discover the various sandbox elements of combat on your own. Like casting an ice attack on a pool of blood to freeze it and make enemies slip. I thought that was the coolest thing when i did it by accident
To anyone interested in this game, i will say it's amazing from what I've played. The number of choices you have feels almost infinite, and that's just with early access.
As an example I bought the game for myself, my wife and two of my friends. Three of us have gotten about 20 hours of gameplay each and everytime we talk about the game its crazy the different expierences we have. Each talk has a "are we even playing the same game?" Moment at least twice.
There is obviously a main quest that every player will expierence and that has limited choices. But the relationships, side quest and role playing during dialogue unlocks so many options.
Of course this is all early access so take everything with a grain of salt, but I'm blown away by the diversity found in this game. If the game lives up to even 50% of what the EA promises, it'll be an amazing game.

@@Mathieu3424 My wife had really only played star dew valley and animal crossing before she tried BG3 and she loves the game. It can be a bit of a learning curve, as they said in this video, so take it slow if you do play.

My short review of early access: I don't normally like isometric-style RPGs. Logically I should be a big Diablo fan but I'm not. I really prefer third or first-person perspective experiences. But I decided to give this game a try because I realized it's got very similar vibes to Divinity: Original Sin and other similar Bioware classics, despite having the fiddly point-and-click to move around system I normally don't like. And the verdict is...well, I may still not be a fan of the perspective and controls, but I love everything else. The combat is fun. Punishing but very satisfying when you get it. Character design and interactions are great. I put around 30 hours into Early Access and could hardly tear myself away. Can't wait to play the full version with my friends - and solo too.
I can't wait for the full release. I bought it on day 1 of Early Access and already put in 20 hours. It would have been way more, but after exploring and enjoying what I played, I wanted to save the rest for the full release and not get too far and have to redo a bunch of stuff I had already done or be too spoiled. My one bit of sadness is that I'm going to be out of town next weekend, so I won't get to play until the next week!
My experience with the early access, which I bought a few weeks ago. The writing, voice performance and animation of cut scenes are amazing. However, the camera control is abysmal. Hope it's better in final release.

The store page for BG3 specifically says and has said for ages that characters wouldn't carry over past Early Access, so it really is odd that anyone would be confused on that.
Though I know a lot of people don't read that kind of thing, or got gifted it out of nowhere, so I suppose your disclaimer was useful.
I'm so glad you mentioned the weapon abilities and the depth they add to melee classes. That was always a critique I had of tabletop melee which felt a bit flimsy compared to spellcasters.
These BG3 videos on YT are the only things keeping me sane until BG3's release next week. I'm so hyped right now I think about BG3 every day!

One minor point of correction to what is overall a great video. The original Baldur’s Gate games was based upon Second Edition Advance Dungeons and Dragons RPG rules set. 😊
I still haven't finished Divinity 2 but I might finish this one given it is a whole new universe. I was upset they took too long, but given the content, and the depth in game mechanics. I'm ok with how long they took. Larian Studios never disappointed and was very generous with their offers in the past.
My first baldurs gate game was Dark Aliance way back then and I loved that, so I’m hype for this.

I usually love any game that I spend hours playing just the character creator. After playing a little bit of early access, I seriously cannot wait for this game. I didn't know how much I needed it in my life until I played!
1:01 It is worth noting that while it may not be worth it to get a head start, if you are the kind of person to preorder/buy in early access anyway, you'll get the deluxe edition for not extra charge. That works even if you buy it the day before.
I'd guess the simplication of spell caster multiclassing is little more than you can learn spells of any teir you have access to. As in regular DnD 5e you're bound to the limit of what the class could normally learn at the level it is, meaning the multiclassing really just gave you more options for upcasting

Try Neverwinter Nights, combat feels somewhere between Divinity OS and the BG games. It's D&D 3rd Edition rules, so it might feel familiar-ish without feeling as distant as the AD&D ruleset in BG1 and 2

It's because BG2 is a game in a time before everyone was on internet, another reality, which is in the 90's. I was playing this game on a Pentium MMX 32 meg Rams, sound blaster, 640x480p on a cathodic screen, VGA blue cable, not even 1 gig on Hard Disk so yeah. Now? HDMI cable, SSD, insane quick internet, etc.
Really stoked for it, a bit bummed i need to wait an extra month to play on PS5 though, i could had gotten it on PC but it just feels like the perfect game for cozy gaming on the couch while petting the dog so kinda wanted it on console.
They're releasing the PS5 version at the same time as Starfield, this is a huge middle finger to Bethesda and their console exclusivity lol
Larian is making sure PlayStation fans get their own massive RPG at the same time as Starfield, they're really going the extra mile to make sure all gamers are having fun on Sept 6th.
Starfield looks underwhelming in comparison. Tbf I haven't really looked to hard into it but I did skim through their video where are the devs were talking about different parts of the game. None of it looked all that great, I hope to be proven wrong as I have a free copy but my expectations are low.
I personally don’t think StarField looks as good as what people are saying. I hope I’m wrong as I want ever game to be great, but from what the trailers have shown it looks meh. Plus, it’s from Bethesda and they have a pretty rough track record lately. With all this being said, I don’t think it’s a huge middle finger to StarField. Tons of games are coming out in September. Plus Baldur’s Gate 3 has the potential to be the best RPG of all time or at least of this generation, whereas StarField……… not really.

My main issue with StarField is that they bragged about being so big and having all these planets, yet every single screen shot we saw of the planets showed nothing interesting. All we saw were nice looking planets but nothing in the distance that makes you curious to explore. Look at RDR2s trailer for example. Every couple clips they would show you out in the middle of the world and in the distance there was a town, a camp, a cave, some ruins, etc. StarField had none of that. Plus the fact that it’s 30FPS and you can’t fly seamlessly from space to the planet really drive me away. I’ll definitely wait for reviews before getting it and I hope it’s a 10/10 game but man there are so many things to be concerned about with it.

As a note, in the tabletop Advantage and Disadvantage are very specifically applied systems.
Hidden from your target? This gives advantage. They take a shot at ou while hidden? THEY get advantage. Were you blinded? then your attack rolls are at disadvantage. is your rogue wanting to sneak attack? they can... once per round IF THEY HAVE ADVANTAGE on their roll... so attacking from stealth (hence calling it sneak attack) is a reliable way of doing so, etc etc.
These are not random seeming things. It may be considered an algorithm in that there are certain tactical things and preparations needed to make it happen.. but it isn't unreliable.
Karmic dice has been seen as a leveling thing... and a bad idea if you have been strategic at all, gaining high armour class as an example. For anyone who plans on having exceptional party members, with high stats and armour classes, it is a TERRIBLE idea. Roll the dice as true, and they will be truly random, with modifiers, not random, with opinions. 😁
As to the Dark Urge you can ALWAYS attempt to resist... it simply gets harder the longer you do so. Giving in once in a while to ease the pressure is likely a good idea if resisting is something you aim for... and aiming it at deserving enemies, instead of allies...
Playstation release hasn't been delayed. It simply hasn't been moved up a month early like PC. PC players get free deluxe IF they have already bought early access, or order it NOW, before launch day.
And Xbox WOULD have access if they didn't insist the lower end S console have all the same features (split screen specifically) as the full X console... which is taking time. They compromised on their hardware, the consumers compromised on price, so the devs need to work far harder to reach some level of parity... if they ever can. Here's to hoping.

I am HYYYYYYPED for some Baldur's Gate 3 action! I'm disappointed that I won't be getting 3 days early access (I'm on pc) but I"m happy to be playing a month earlier than Playstation.

I played the original BG on PC when it came out. I think I had about 8mb of RAM and a 3.2GB hard drive. My graphics card was £30 and I thought that was a lot at the time, lol. The PC was around 800mz CPU I believe with Windows 98

I have never played DnD, yet i’m really interested in playing this game, especially for the story/roleplay. But tbh i do not know anything about this type of combat, the classes, spells etc. I’ve barely played rpg’s
Should i still get this game?
I was a huge table top FRP (fantasy role play) fan and played many D&D campaigns for years when I was a teen. Video game fantasy games were so lame back then and never enjoyed them much. Even hit games like Diablo was actualy a hack'n slash, not a RPG. Everything changed when the first Baldur's Gate released. That was the first game that gave a proper D&D world and story as a video game. I played BG 1 & 2 many times. So after all these years, a passionate and talented development team like Larian who are fans of the BG games making a ridiculously detailed new one is like a dream come true. I believe this will be one of the milestone RPGs that will shape the genre like Fallout, Mass Effect and The Witcher 3.
Can't wait to play this not only solo, but with a group of slightly drunk buddies.
Ive been playing BG3 since early access. There for every patch and change. I love it! I would just caution though that people dont "overhype" it. I find it always leads to disappointment because of Over Expectation Bias. Cheers all!
The amount of depth in this game is honestly kinda daunting. But I am looking forward to a good split screen experience with my wife :)

😞 "It lock you into certain choices where you have no control" 😞 I was really hoping the urge would be something you could resist! The fact that it can control your actions against your will, means its probably not a good first play through choice, sucks too cause the urge sounds like it would mix well with a dramatic vengeance paladin run.

Guys, I need someone’s opinion. I wanted to love Divinity Original Sun 2. I put around 20 hours into it, but as much as I tried, I wasn’t having fun, I felt lost, and I constantly died. I think I’m at least decent at games. I get a good amount of Platinum trophies, including stuff like Elden Ring, but maybe it’s the tedium of CRPGs that get me? Is that just an intended feature?
I’m really interested in BG3, but is it not for me? I’m not sure if I like CRPGS, because none of them have clicked for me. I love most JRPGs and WRPGs.
Should I take a chance on it, or save my money?

While it really doesn't sound like they have actually played D&D, as a lot of the stuff they say Larian has "changed" is actually stuff that comes directly out of D&D 5e, this is a very good and informative video for people looking to play BG3, and haven't played D&D. Good stuff 👍
What is this weapons having multiple special actions?
And EVERYONE having bonus actions?
Those are the only 2 things they said changed from 5e to here, and those are changes.
@@RolandHazoto The "Special" actions they talk about might be exactly that, but what they are showing on the screen while talking about it, is just properties on the weapons. Reading what that states, it reads as exactly what they are in D&D 5e. (With the Light, Finesse, and Thrown properties)
Getting to the bonus actions. Shove is in fact changed to a bonus action, that is correct. It also seems that hide is, as well.
But when we get to dash, it says "Cunning Action" leading me to believe, that this is just what the rogue can already do.
"Dip" is, to be fair, also changed to a bonus action, instead of an action.
Also just a mention, they talk about the "Spell Slots" mechanic as if its something Larian came up with, although I believe that is unintended, and they do know that it does come directly from D&D.
All in all, sure I did unintentionally make it sound like a bigger deal than it is, I see that now. However, in my opinion, they still don't come off as actually knowing the 5e system that well, especially with the first point, being the "Special" actions, seeming to just be weapon properties.
Great video as usual. Im excited for this one, got it about 3 years ago in early access. As an avid D&D player can't wait to make some of my table top characters in the game or at least try to. Especially stoked to roll a dragonborn. :)
I got this game the day early access came out , and it is a really great game. Had like 67 hours on record, and they did a update that some how lost or made my 67 hour character not playable for some reason. Had to start over, and did like 3 hours. I am going to just wait until the official launch is out to start it again.
