Man you guys are so lucky to get to work with Gary! I’ve heard such great things about him through the industry… amazing guy I hope to meet him on day.
Good meeting you, Trey. I was playing on the court next to you in the white shorts at 9:35. I was watching you play a bit, and although your serves weren't working out for you that match, they are a huge leap better than a year ago and I wouldn't put too much pressure on them. They're at a good 4.0-4.5 pace. Consistency will come soon with play. Your height and form will make your serve your best weapon very soon. Tory is a good serve and volleyer. The key to beat that kind of play is to either crush his weaker serves low so he has to hit up off his laces, or keep him back with some deep topspin. Don't give him an opportunity for an approach. If you're able, stand in front of the baseline on the return to subtract distance. And for sure, that weekend rain sucked! Good luck!
Don’t feel discouraged! Tournaments are really difficult in terms of putting pressure on yourself. Keep going!! I wanna see the 1st place Dub in the future!!!
Enjoyable video as always. Huge improvement from Kyle over the last couple of months. Strokes and consistency getting way better. Trey, your serve is so clean, why not develop a kicker for a reliable 2nd? I think it would come easier to you than most since you have a knack for serving. You could even turn it into a series - The Quest to Learn a Kick Serve.
The More You Know 🌈⭐️ : Serves at 3:37 and 4:57 are Foot Faults. Your right foot repositions to cross the center hash mark extended before you make contact with the ball. It is also not permissible to cross the single’s sideline on either side in singles and the doubles sideline in doubles. If you start your service motion with a foot crossing a sideline or center hash mark and then move the foot away during the service motion before hitting the ball, it still counts as a foot fault. 😮 Go team Kyle !! 😊
Your improvement has been so much fun to watch. You are playing so well given how little you've played tennis!! The nerves/tightness will continue to improve as you play more tournaments/matches with 'stakes'. Don't be too hard on yourself - you don't have the same benefit that a lot of other players have to rely on their 10+ years of play to get through those tougher moments when not serving well or missing shots you know you can make. Looking forward to seeing a tournament DUB in 2025. Also, seeing Kyle's improvement so quickly after his lessons is insane - natural athlete.
To be fair, it's not that little tennis, I guess its for sure much for an amateur. I started this year in August and even if I think I played much, well, it's maybe 1 time a week - compare that to Trey, including all the training he did.
Trey, I felt for you so hard when you were hit with a case of The Double Faults right at the worst moment. You both are putting yourselves out there and grinding with varied match play, more than I could ever imagine myself doing right now, and I respect it deeply. You've come a long way, and 2025 will probably be a good year to watch.
I’m 41 and I’m just getting into playing. This channel is awesome to see. I spent the last 10 years dedicated to road racing bikes and learning from TH-cam channels about the sport of crit racing, gravel racing and just all things bicycles so you’re really speaking my language with this channel. Exactly what I need as I learn more about tennis on the amateur level and inevitably carry myself into competition. Love to see it! Cheers!
Great video bro, it was good to see you and good to see you play in that last match. It was very close, could have gotten either way and overall you just played great. Only thing I can say the double faults definitely played a part on the loss. I got bumped to 4.0 so maybe ill be seeing you in a tournament soon 😉
Thank you for playing with me. I was out from tennis from my ACL injury. I got surgery like a year ago. I still need to come back playing again. I hope we play again in the next USTA tournament.
Some absolute banger shots in that second match. Be proud of yourself that you're improving, and in 3 months you'll beat these guys at a much higher rate
you are playing really good! The more you practice the better you will get! keep up the grind! I believe the opponent is tough, you have to build up that confidence.
Keep it up Trey! I can tell you from many years of experience that tournaments are generally won by players who are at the very top end of their NTRP rating, and many of them are already marked for the bump up.
Nice playing in general. The situation around the tournament for sure didn't help. I know it is frustrating but don't worry too much about it. You are becoming a beast brother. Keep at it and you will see how the muscle memory, instincts and reflexes keep improving and help you out a lot.
Tournament tennis is different! You will feel more pressured, and that will make you tight. It will go away, but it takes a lot of time and matches under your belt. Keep grinding!
My brother Trey. You've come such a long way since I discovered your channel a year or so ago. Congrats on becoming a real "Tennis Player", brother. To qualify that, lots of people "play tennis" but you have put yourself in the arena, competing under the spotlight where there is pressure and no excuses. That is what "Tennis Players" do and that is to be commended. Keep it up, you are on the right track! I'm a full-time Tennis Coach from New Zealand and I make my living mainly in the Junior Development space. You're a big boy now but there are many parallels with where you are currently in your journey. If I could give you one piece of advice going forward it would be to focus on the process (technique, footwork, tactics, mindset, preparation) and not the outcome (winning or losing). This sounds easy, but in practice can be difficult. It is something I discuss with my juniors almost every single lesson or squad training. Once they are able to grasp the concept they are able to compete in a different manner where winning and losing (the outcome) is not as important as constant improvement (the process). The real magic in this is when my players come to me after having lost a tough match beaming with pride, telling me how well they played and competed despite losing. These are matches that in the past would have had them frustrated and in tears but because they are now proiritising the process they are able to keep perspective on what really matters and will help them most on their journey. The saying goes, "if you focus on the process, the outcome will take care of itself" and you will be able to play free. All the best for your next tournament. 2025 will be a great year for you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
This is the most important amateur tennis video on TH-cam. A true tour de force of filmmaking. Pain, joy, love, heartbreak, tennis. Bravo, Trey + Kyle.
You've done really well learning solid technique in a short period of time. Technique gives you a base. Now build on top of that base by learning point construction. You have a great weapon in your serve. You need to find a way to use it to get better court position. I feel like you will apply a ton of pressure once you get more comfortable on your plus ones and your serve and volley. Once you get more comfortable you will make life very difficult for your opponents at this level.
Good meeting you both. It was a fun match against Kyle. This short format really puts some pressure on the players, one mistake and you can probably forget about the match. Anyways, hope I can see you again at the next tournament in March.
Your rate of improvement has been exceptional. Don't be discouraged. You should ask some of your opponents how long they've been playing. Then you should realise how crazy it is to be competing like this as an adult who is so new to tennis relative to their opponents.
Not going to lie, whatever happens with your tennis the thing you have that people would kill for is a brother to do tournaments and be bros with. That is worth more than millions and grand slams. I envy you guys, keep it up!
Great voleys , has two types of ball inside/outside , you can change the outside runing more , no problem Just hitting the inside forehand but the ball tô keep the ball in the left IS the outside backhand , master that and you still can use only the inside forehand , great improvement
9:41 A lot of the USTA officials in Texas are pricks sometimes. There are a handful of good ones as well but the majority of USTA tournaments I played in Texas when I was younger bearly gave us 2 minutes to warm up, and it really affected how I played in my match. They are all out there with stopwatches making sure we don’t go a second over time. They need to chill.
Trey it looks like you are not having any fun out there. Find the fun, find the love. maybe play some doubles to ease the pressure and hit some volleys. Remember, this is supposed to be fun! 2024 was a huge growth year for you.
losing sucks, but its not the quality of the next ball that counts when trying to improve, its the quality of the next 100 balls! losing to a semi-pusher but not much, nearly got it... and getting past those decent players that push is really hard TBH shows improvement
You should join the dark side and play pickleball instead. I was a 4.0 tennis player as well but found pickleball. There’s more tournaments to join in pickleball. Fun and fast pace.
Of course - I get it $500 is a lot to drop in an hour. Also, hats off to you guys for managing your channel; I think about it sometimes myself, doing something similar, but it’s not an investment I could manage myself - again hats off. I invested in discovering the fundamental secrets not advertised - admittedly some of these guys are on the right track, but most never come close anyways, that’s what I have, the secrets not advertised - I invested in discovering those secrets over decades; again hats off for managing this channel so well. I’m a fan. Keep at it
th-cam.com/users/clipUgkxrikyPJjYmyiw3ZLSN_Bt8tmZD-evZxwp?si=RBjgnwbcGqMNaAQA This is about you not using the time your given wisely. 1) You retrieve Torys ball near the back fence. Good get. But then instead of immediately sprinting back to get back into position you actually stand still for a split second and then start running. His drop shots second bounce was about on the service line making it mediocre at best. Alternate Universe 5.0 Trey would have IMMEDIATELY took off back towards the court after hitting the ball (5.0 Trey would have hit a much higher defensive lob knowing he’s way out of position and could use some extra time. But forget that. This is what he’d do in the exact current situation). He’d size up the situation on the run. He’d know that a 4.0 Tory is most likely to try a drop shot in this situation and that the chances of Tory punching a volley deep are small. Not just Tory but most 4.0s. But since 5.0 Trey is already even with the baseline as Tory is about to hit the ball since he didn’t waste his time standing still. 5.0 Trey takes a split step on the run not stopping his forward momentum completely (remember a split step doesn’t just allow you to move more effectively left or right it also makes stopping and moving forwards and backwards more efficient). This split step gives 5.0 Trey the option to quickly stop and move sideways to cover a deep volley as unlikely as that is to happen. But Tory hits the drop shot. 5.0 Trey easily reaches the ball at knee height and bunts it down the line knowing that Tory is still near the ad court sideline and that a fancy hero shot is unnecessary. (Frankly at this level just the distraction/fear of seeing your opponent sprinting towards the net is often enough to make the drop shot be missed outright, because of nerves or trying to hit a too good of a drop shot. We’ve seen this many times in Treys past matches.)
th-cam.com/users/clipUgkx15bZKz_Pe3oqoArOj8RjSeuOJj6WvpbO?si=0YFHfSMONkx6rNsD. 1) Service return contact at ankle height? I guess you edited out all of Tory’s big serves. Standing that far behind the baseline to return serves that aren’t threatening and on particularly what looked like a second serve (first edited out?) is hard to understand. 2) On your running backhand, slow mo the vid and you will see that you plant your right foot parallel to the baseline. You should be planting your foot with your toes pointing as much towards the court as your flexibility allows (usually about 45 degrees). This small thing may seem insignificant but it’s a huge factor in allowing your body to pivot and easily get your shoulders and weight into the shot. Instead your foot stuck on the court. You actually had to do a small hop to keep from falling over or blowing your knee out. Don’t take my word for it. Watch a bunch of clips of pros hitting running 2HBHs parallel to the baseline. You’ll see their heels plant and then their toes come down in the direction of the court. Their foot then pivots on their toes as they hit the ball, the left foot comes around and they finish smoothly in a open stance. Actually I shouldn’t be giving you advice since I’m on Team Kyle. 😅 3) If you displayed the same amount of effort in a basketball game that you showed in running down Tory’s volley you’d be yelled at by your coach and probably get yanked from the game. Before you even passed the center hash mark you gave up on the ball. The ball takes it second bounce only about a foot in front of your foot and you easily stop the ball with your racket. Had you kept trying and just changed your direction slightly into the court you could have hit another running forehand like the previous point. I had to watch this point over and over. Did Trey somehow edit out the first bounce? Was there a glitch in the Matrix!? Even if you were up in score at this point you cannot take points off like that. It will come back to haunt you. 💯 each and every time. 😢

3-3 then 4-3 then 5-3 just like in regular tennis, 5-5 6-5 7-5
