I've got one because I really like the workflow. It's so intuitive that you don't even need tutorials, I just watched a couple of reviews and jams on YT and it was enough to get a knowledge of what to do with the PT right after unboxing. Other grooveboxes are usually a lot harder to learn and work with (I also have the MC-101 and even skilled producers sometimes struggle with it's workflow). Another good selling point for me was the FM-radio. I'm not used to work with samples, but the radio simplifies that process - you can get new and unique sounds right on the PT without any additional work or gear. I also love the knob, it's very satisfying to work with) Even though it has it's limitations, the PT is an awesome device with a fun and instant workflow.
From watching YT videos, what immediately makes the Polyend Tracker attractive is that users tend to make music other than Techno and House. I'm more about DnB, and JazzHop! 😎
Funnily enough I make a lot of IDM & Glitch music, but also love making Berghain style techno, and I find the tracker to be an excellent sketchpad for that also.
Definitely under-rated by me until I got one! It was the vertical scrolling that put me off, but you can change it to horizontal easily, so it scrolls like any other sequencer! The learning curve compared to my main sequencer Squarp Pyramid, my main samplers MPC Live and a SP404mk2, is WAY WAY EASIER! And unlike my Blackbox for travelling which is ultra-portable but functional/un-inspiring, the tracker has character! :) The only downside of the Tracker is the memory limitations of 133sec per project. You can be working on a great track but suddenly find you’re out of sample space. At that point you have to transfer to DAW, or MPC. It’s not clear why Polyend did not implement streaming from SD card. Sure it’s supposed to make you more creative but it’s also a total pain. So you can’t really finish a song on it. Though Polyend releasing the Mini, it’s not for me, I need pads! What we need is a Tracker mk2 that solves the memory limitations issue and has a built in lithium battery. BUT, it’s tracker sequencing is fantastic, you get musical in seconds, and never need to reach for a manual, and returning to it after a few weeks away is easier than any of the other machines above. Enjoyable!
Coming from an MPC Live Mark I, which I find hard to use as stand alone for music production, would you recommend to switch to the Polyend Tracker? How would you compare the effort-to-outcome ratio? (I/O-balance so to say)
I would say that it’s a waaaay more restricted and limited device than the MPCs are. It’s basically a totally different sort of machine. The MPC is like a DAW in a box, the Tracker is like a super sequencer with an old school mentality including only mono sampling, very short sample memory per project, only 8 tracks per project (this can be more flexible than it sounds but still a huge limit compared to MPC). Current MPCs are nearly perfect as far as capabilities go in my opinion. The Tracker is really cool but if you’re expecting something similar I think you’ll be disappointed
@@DylanParisMusic @13schneidergesellen I’d add to that, if you’re finding the MPC hard to use for standalone, highly recommend check out the Akai Force. Similar functionality plus a bit more, and also personally much more accessible/natural workflow once you get used to the whole 64 pads thing… only clear downside is not so transportable as compared the MPC live or One.. guess depends on how and where you use.
Back when I had an Amiga I thought the Trackers were AMAZING. The announcement of Polyend’s Tracker Mini got me thinking….. NO not buy a Mini…… I put Chibitracker on my Valve Steam Deck. Hey I’ve got a portable handheld tracker too now with fair bit more tracks than either of the Polyend ones. If I find a good deal on original Polyend Tracker I’d probably grab just to compare
What is really cool in the tracker is Euclidean and other generative sequencing that helps you be creative - this is very cool feature in Tracker and a main reason I wanted it. I preordered Tracker back in times it was just released and waited for 5 months and order fulfilment was delayed because of technical problems so I cancelled my order after 5 months of waiting and got Digitakt.
Good question! In this case it’s really just feeling like there isn’t enough love for this device on TH-cam and in general in comparison to how good it is. But more so than that it’s that I was underrating it too, and have really gotten into it lately
@@DylanParisMusic it's pretty easy to caption a TH-cam video with 'underrated' to get clicks. But what's your definition of underrated? Sorry, I'm just being a prick, but it bugs the hell out of me when I see quality content makers who I respect use such beyond fcking daft captions, to gain clicks which you'll get anyway....quality floats to the top. xo
I understand this sentiment but over the last 4 years and hundreds of videos I have hard evidence that this type of title will lead people to my videos. A great video doesn’t matter if no one watches it.
I find it slow , it takes forever to do things ,...loading... waiting .... , very poor fx , not enough memory . All in all i is something from the past , like old PC from 90s , worst gear buy ever . Or I am just spoiled with Digitakt , that appears to be light years ahead of this overrated hipster kaka

Heck yeah! Agreed on the radio and it is way simpler than it looks to learn

I feel that for sure!
I’m working on a terror/Speedcore/jungle EP on it, it’s pretty underrated and a lot better than people say about it

I sold my MPC Live. Didn't enjoy the workflow. Tracker is more limited but I think that's what makes getting results more immediate.
@@DylanParisMusic I mean, if you think about it, the Tracker is a DAW in a box... Just a very old DAW.
… you’re not wrong 🤣
love the table you are using to stack the synths..is it from amazon or Ikea etc?
My synths are on a “Fjallbo” shelf unit from IKEA :]
Mine arrives tomorrow, been super intersted for a while. I think its going to work well with me.
That’s awesome!
You will like new Polyend tracker Mini ;)
Oh man I can’t even put into words how excited I am for the Mini
To me it seems like a step backward from the full sized tracker. I'm waiting for the tracker+

It's on sale for 359 at zzounds and reverb today if you're still interested in the tracker.
I don't get the importance of stereo sampling. Mono works for me.
Same for me? I always sample in mono and then I have better control of the sample position in stereo space on the final mix
I think the lofi 12 is as well
That one looks really cool
Being from ny I’m very familiar with studio studios 😂

It's all about workflow. If you don't like vertical tracker style sequencer - you can't be creative. This is really niche device...
It does have a piano roll view though too
Or a horizontal mode I mean
@@DylanParisMusic I meant the playhead moves vertically that's why I call it vertical sequencer.
