This puts me back in a good place when I was a child. I remember grabbing a blanket and laying up against the machine and going to sleep. Those were the days for sure.. Thanks for posting this great video with awesome sound..
Thanks for sharing this.... the whooosh sound of the agitator, reminds me of my childhood, my mother had then, a McClary-Easy wringer washer, they had what they called the agitator "the spirolator" it made that "whoosh" sound !!! 🙂
My grandmother had this machine. So long ago and so many memories have resurfaced. Thank you for sharing this. How cool would it be if Hotpoint went and manufactured these same machines for purchase. People would drop everything and run to get one.....
Everyones so worried about efficiency these days. These older units did the job and well! Tub filled in what, 2 minutes? Huge agitators and clean clothes. Easy to repair. If youve got one, keep it in good repair.
This 1970s washing machine is a mechanical metaphor for the people of that time, who I remember. No-nonsense, hard-working, quick and to the point, nothing fancy but reliably got the job done. I wonder what our 2024 washing machines say about us as a society today?
it’s a pretty vigorous *getter done* Robust waterfill. So in a spin cycle …when it sprays in, the force of water is strong enough to power the water more thoroughly through the clothes as it spins. It looks like a lot of…but I don’t believe, while it is a strong flow, it is still not an astronomical amount of water, because it doesn’t really go for all that long. Even though it is filling in like Niagara Falls, it won’t exceed the 3.2 cu - 3.6 cu tub capacity, during wash and rinse cycles, water usage remains pretty conservative. Washing machine capacity back then is pretty close to today’s Speed Queen models.
@@user-Cam-x7bmy grandmother had this very same machine. Hers had the mini basket though that sat on top of the agitator.. I haven’t seen this machine run since I was ten years old. Brought back memories.
Sounded like the program dial was directly driven by the main motor during the wash/rinse & spin, but when it stopped/paused between the wash/rinse & spin-drain it turned on its own motor to keep it turning,
Oh Gso You just made my day!!! Like I told you with your last video of this machine, this is my all time favorite washer... I always loved these Hotpoint washers and even owned one for a short time but, mine had the filter pan that went over the agitator... Did you do work on this machine since the last video of this??? because it sounds quieter and the agitators seems to be moving faster??? Thanks again for making my day and making this video, Take care and have a great weekend...... Bob
There's one thing that the newest top washers do that's so dumb. If you want warm water, it adds just cold water for 20 seconds, then hot water for 20 seconds, and it repeats until it's full, or if you want just hot water, it adds mostly hot water until it's near the top where it suddenly starts adding just cold water.

Great fill flume , agitator & wash action - Classic Hotpoint !!

@@mikefalvo8536 my grandmother had this very machine also. I must have been 7 or 8 years of age since i last saw this machine in action.
My mom had a 1963 Hotpoint. It was a real workhorse but the fountain filter was always going on the fritz.
and it's my opinion, this Hotpoint washes better than a speed queen
No it is Not your opinion it is a fact that the washer does wash better than the speed queen
@@CaseyOliver-k7l fair , and I only say that because some speed queen fans will try to argue with me and I get tired of that,
@@Makesdonsdonsoney oh No I believe you and I understand
Actually during this era the speedqueen washed the same with the overflow rinse as well
The Sound Of The Motor And The Rhythm Sounds Like Music And The The Agitation And Splashing Water Sounds Like Hand Claps
that is a rare machine, I have not seen a McClary Easy or a GSW auto washer for years and probably only 2 or 3 in my lifetime.

@@robfmas it's not really about efficiency it's really about greed and money , while speed queen is still doing old school wash action

That anytime the government gets involved with something it gets ruined.
Strong agitation. 👍👍
Wish I had one of those…look at that water fill.!
Yeah it's great...but what the water bill?
@@teutguy1 oh ok I get what you saying, about the overflow rinse , um mean they didn't care before so why follow these regulations

Nice machine
My Childhood Friend's Mother Had A J.C. Penney's Penncrest Model With The " Fountain Filter"

Sure fun to watch
Wish I could jump in for a wash and spin. I thought I could always do this when I was a kid.

how much water lol
Just like our UK Hotpoint top loaders and twin tubs. I never liked the spiral agitator though, too much slapping about and low roll over.
nice
This Hotpoint is very quiet I have to say . 😊
Some of the aspects of the old machines are great but they never had a heated wash option. After having that on my Miele there was no going back.
So it's adding dirty water?
When did the Hotpoint become a GE?

Wow look at that wash action.
This off course is not the GE Hotpoint but good machine.
Why are you washing dark clothes in hot water? Warm or cold is better.
Overflow rinses would not be allowed now...water use regulations.
