You can see how much Dante cares about Vergil and how much Vergil wanted to be liked his dad, Sparta, to protect Dante and people he loved.
In DMC5, Dante was gladly leave the Earth Realm to the Demon Realm with Vergil, as Nero, son of Vergil was born.
DMC3 is to show the loneliness of Dante, being not a demon, not a human.
