Mario Odyssey Custom Levels in 2023 are Insane...

- Today I decided to try out one of the most impressive Super Mario Odyssey custom Kingdom mods I've ever seen. The mod adds in an entirely new custom kingdom called Bon-Bones Mountain featuring a train station town and sub areas that include themes like volcanic mountains and vine filled skies. I had a ton of fun giving it a try so I hope you enjoy the video!

22:24 the ship, the moon name and some other stuff in it is all a reference to Super Mario RPG a fantastic Super Nintendo game and a some what of a "inspiration" to the Paper Mario series
And for some other people who were big into newgrounds or gaming sprite animation you might recognize the ship and the name from a interesting series referred to as SMBZ (Super Mario Bros Z)
Either way i love that the creator put it there (both the Sprite series and the Rpg game were my childhood)
Edit: 23:44 this gigantic living sword is also a reference to the Mario Rpg game
(I'm starting to think that this whole sub area is a different take + reference to "Bowser's place" in the rpg)

I'm pretty sure Paper Mario was called "Super Mario RPG 2" early in development, but I may be wrong.

I saw the big axe ship and shouted in surprise, "it's barrel volcano!" Haven't finished watching the level yet -- hopefully the axem rangers make an appearance.
@@aidensnyder2420 Smithy is the name of the final boss. The sword is Exor. I am ashamed to admit I had to look that up -- it is my favorite game, but I haven't played it in several years. I also had to look up the name of the axe ship's attack - it is the breaker beam.
Tbh I thought the title was gonna be overhyping it but some of these moons like the moai ones were really cool, better than a lot of the filler in base SMO. I was blown away by the visuals and map design especially for that cloud area. 11/10 mod
It's especially nice that there's something interesting with each moon, not just extras to boost the count
That Above The Clouds area is what Cloud Kingdom should’ve been!
and the castle ruins is what Ruined Kingdom could have been lol

The reason that the boss fight didn’t work because the sub area was the moon cave and that file had already completed the moon cave boss fight.
Fir has gotta be one of the calmest gamers you’d ever watch. Massive respect.

The Blade from Mario RPG showing up was a nice surprise! I love little references like that in mods.
I like how the custom map makers basically created super Mario Odyssey Maker but without the random enemy spam levels
Not gonna lie, I thought the sub areas were more impressive than the hub world. What a great mod. If you guys can iron out the glitches, these will be GREAT hide n seek rounds

The first sub area was cool and the second was amazing but the last one was CRAZY! good job for whoever made this it just blows my mind.

That was awesome. You need to do a hide and seek there, but each round only one sub-area is available, as they are quite large.

tbh, this entire kingdom seems like a bit of a love letter to captain toad tt. underrated game
This mod is absolutely incredible, and having Fir's amazing commentary to go along with it just makes it even better!

The sub areas felt like entire kingdoms
The last 2 sub areas were probably inspired by Mario Kart 8 and this was a brilliant idea. The first one is really similar to Cloud Top Cruise (The Giant ? Block models are probably ported from this map, same for the ship that you thought was from mario galaxy).
About the second one the creator used a part of the Grumble Volcano model, thats why there were some arrow signs near the floor.
Btw this is probably the most impressive mod i have ever seen

That ship in the last subarea is a reference to the Axem Rangers, one of the coolest parts (at least for me as a kid) in Super Mario RPG on the SNES.

I like the reference to captain toad treasure tracker with the train especially since their in association with each other.
These were a lot of Super Mario RPG references.

The volcano where the Axem Rangers ship was.
My assumption was the fire boss from that game was supposed to spawn for that arena but I can see that that would be a ton of work.
That subarea with the lava maze (lavrynth??) is so cool. I love this kingdom!!!!!!

The Axem Rangers was one of the main bosses in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and that was their ship
Edit: Also the giant sword sticking out of the tower across from the boss arena was also a boss in Super Mario RPG
Yep. The ship is the Blade. And the giant Sword is Exor, who featured prominently on the cover of the box.

The whole mod is a nod to captain toad. The spinning thing at 1:55 is from one of the levels. Same with the train at 2:32. Sub area 1 at 11:22 is 2-1. And the purple coin icon is the gems from captain toad.

This is honestly super cool, if I had to complain, my main issues would just be the moon's names aren't that great (and the capitalization) and also there's clearly some limits because they had to reuse assets from SMO, but I don't expect a guy to completely model the kingdom themselves

I like how the castle has a Mario RPG easter egg with the sword in the tower at the back of the castle

First seeing bon-bone kingdom (If you'd call it that?) Instantly made me think of the original paper Mario at the desert train area, close to where you find the para koopa friend (I forgot his name..).
(I'm not sure why I'm commenting this, I just feel the urge to.)
