The only year I went to Time Square was the 70 to 71 new year eve change. Around 11 pm a snow storm started dumping. Me and my friend watched the ball drop , then got the last bus out of N.Y.C. to N.J... New York metro almost shut the bus system down. We were lucky to get out of there. When dropped off at the Plainfield , N.J. station we had to walk five miles home in about 20 inches of snow ! We were about 16 years old then and for me it is a golden memory. Thanks for this rare post. Dick Clark would change it to a different celebration in 72.

Yes, Carmen passed away in April and it must have been an effort to do the show.

I always liked the male vocalist in Guy Lumbardo and the Royal Canadians. I had forgotten; I had over 20 Christmas albums. I knew I must have forgotten some; and Guy Lumbardo was the one I forgot. If I had not seen this I would not have remembered. My albums were stored away and I wasn't able to retrieve them. Very sad.

Pia is the daughter of well-known actress Ingrid Bergman. Pia did journalism and some acting during her career. She’s still alive at 85.

I see George Gowans at the drums too! Was this his final new years show before stepping away from the Royal Canadians too?
