GP Bikes is great....But also - year without update, no AI (so if you want SP there is time attack and that's it), mods are great but their quality is very fluctuating.
Physics and modding is awesome, but there is not much more than this at this the time and lack of updates is frustrating.

My only issue with motorcycle games is you cant go the next level like you can with car games and get a wheel. Bike games on controller is quite awful for me. So until we get a decent solution, i wont be to invested. We need a rig that does lean and countersteer and at a reasonable price :/

Not sure it's reasonable, but building a rig is most definitely doable. The controller part is actually the hardest part.

You will never have that. For car sims you even have motion rigs, it's almost 1:1 experience you can get from a simulator. As for bikes more factors are involved and I can tell you it's not that good. I've tried a simulator myself that leans up to 40°, you'll get tired pretty quickly because your arms are in constant tension. No gyroscopic effect, etc.

@@vsmaster6162 its perfectly doable its just too expensive for something that has a very small targetable audience. In the same way it was for wheels until the g25 came out and became the affordable realistic wheel for the masses. We just need to have that g25 moment but before that we need to go through the expensive stuff, issue is were not even there yet. I reckon a FFB that does the steering column (easy as just take existing wheel base and rotate it so it faces up, and instead of a wheel, stick a bar or clipons). Then youd need a seat that leans, this i reckon is the expensive bit as youd need beefy hyrdaulics that can replace the gyro effect and push your weight up
The rest is clever coding to simulate bike physics, not too hard, ie push hyrdaulics up if throttle is applied, stiffen FFB motor when hard on brakes to simulate that stand up on brakes effect, etc
Honestly its not too difficult once you know what youre looking for, just not worth it for the Logitechs and Thrustmasters of the world. The next step would be front and aft hydraulics to simulate wheelie and stoppie but just getting leaning and countersteer right would have me frothing at the mouth

@@vsmaster6162 That's because it's not a physics based motion sim that you've tried. It is more a sim for the ones spectating, and doesn't do anything to simulate the forces acting on a rider. We need to stay positive! Bike simulation is certainly more complex than car sims since the driver isn't stationary in the same way, but with PiBoSo's software and continued development I am sure we are not that far away!

@@Automan9 Indeed, it is a very young and limited market so far. Thrustmaster gave it a try with the freestyler, but it just didn't hit the spot.
The biggest problem with bike sim hardware is that every rider has its own idea about how it should be. 'Riding style' is a muuuuch bigger thing for bikes than cars! A car is simply controlled by turning the wheel, a bike reacts to everything that you do. So in order to please the average rider, a bike controller needs to adapt to the drivers personal preference without being difficult to set up. And also cheap enough to match a logitech entry wheel. That won't be easy.
And the leaning is something of a myth. If you want to simulate the feel of riding, pitch is endlessly more important than roll (side lean). This because there are no external balancing forces.

I use a logitech wheel and peddles and enjoy the game/sim very much. A controller for me was too much like dragging the bike around the track instead of riding the bike. I gave up the controller for a wheel and made it much more like the real thing.

TT is still the best overall motorcycle game ever made, but pound for pound GP Bikes has the best physics. It goes way into sim territory though so keep that in mind. TT still feels amazing to this day.

well Assetto Corsa only needed track mods which is good, but when you need vehicle mods as well.. thats a big no no, most of the modders have no real world experience, and have no money to fully model a real bike specs, so all you get is low budget stuff... in AC the devs created those cars based on the real ones, and tried to make it as real as possible because they had the money and connections

I remember this game ..... back then when it was a demo with one track and one 125cc 2stroke bike.
I still have it in my collection
10+ years later and the game is in the same state as back then.
....
I guess they are waiting for the moment to be bought.

They are A LOT of work lol. GP Bikes is still a tech demo in all reality.

Unfortunately, GP Bikes is not realistic at all, and there are very serious problems with its physics engine. The engine can't even handle suspension physics correctly, or weight transfers. This is why the bikes cannot handle laser scanned tracks, and all imported tracks have to be made smooth, in order for the engine to handle the track. Or else, the bikes bounce around like pogo sticks, on the laser scanned surface, because the suspension physics can't cope with basic surface topography. Also, the bikes face the wrong direction on hills, while still going straight. Such a glaring example of a physics engine which can't even get the basic geometry of the motorcycle right, when the there is a height differential between the wheels. It gets it all wrong, and the resulting physics simulation in very poor. GP Bikes is a bouncy, twitchy mess, with cartoony suspension physics and a poorly implemented, partially constructed system of conservation of energy. It's very bad. But 99% of these gamers know nothing about bikes, so they think GP Bikes is realistic. It isn't. RiMS Racing is far more realistic than GP Bikes. In fact, RiMS Racing is the only true and actual motorcycle simulation. If you look at my stuff, you'll see examples of this.

I prefer Rims Racing out of all the games for it's feel and realism. I do think GP bikes gets the onboard feeling right though. But I agree about the modded tracks with the scans holding back the physics.
