Looked like "Lagopus muta" (latin name) or "Lagopus lagopus". Fjellrype (rock ptarmigan) or lirype (willow ptarmigan) in Norwegian. Fjellrype should supposedly have a black streak from the eye to the beak, unlike lirype. I don't think I saw that here, so probably lirype? Think lirype is more common of the two too.
Really cozy video! 😇Tromsö is so beautiful and even more in the summer! You guys should definitely move to Scandinavia, you would fit in just great! 🤲 And we would love to have you!! 🇸🇪 🇳🇴 🇩🇰
Great video! Nice place! I liked the Arctic cathedral! We have mini libraries like that around where i live but they are not in phone booths. Yeah, you take a book and put one back.
EasyJet have (just this week) announced new flights from Bristol to Tromsø for winter 2024/25! Maybe I need to check it out. Did you get to see the Arctic Cathedral at night? Apparently it looks amazing. As usual, another quality video :)
I live 5 minutts away for Prestvannet and it is my favorite place in Tromsø. Right now is so beautiful 😍 🦆 you should come back to Tromsø in the summer ☀️🤩 and also visit sommarøya.
This deserves a NEW SUB! Greetings from Arctic Lo-Ve Islands, 🇳🇴🇳🇴 Not able to be a Patreon atm, but just love your content and bubbly "Canadian" personality❣️ Let's see if you figure out the region where I live 😉
Dear Mr Ironside and Miss Boneless 🤣🤣😂😂😁😁😜😜😅😅😎😎 This was a great video! The prices seamed really afjordible... 😜 And the landscape is magnificient! I've always wanted to go there too. (I just gotta know... I said I was done with the whole tuna thing, but didn't JP Have tuna on his pizza? It sure looked like it? Did he? He did! Didn't he?) Anyhuu... Scandinavia would be glad to have you both as citizens living here. Take care and be safe
To understand the name of Kaldfjord, all you need is to look at the map. The inner bend of Kaldfjord and Ersfjord are both almost straight west, and due to the mountains on both sides of Ersfjord, it focuses the ocean wind into a strong west wind that hits the inhabited parts of Kaldfjord hard. And that's how that fjord got its name of Cold fjord (kald=cold). Even during the warmest summer, it was always a cold wind at my grandparents home in Kaldfjord.
Thank for the explanation. I was just waiting for someone from southern countries as response on a explanation of what 'kald' means ask "but isn't all of the Norwegian fjords cold".
The bird is a rype in Norwegian. It’s one of the most usual animals to hunt in Norway, it’s very delicious, especially the heart which my family is cooking in the brown sause.
I live right by Prestvannet. I've gotten some magical photos there during the midnight sun months. I can recommend the weekly and bi-weekly jam sessions happening around the city, both as a spectator and a participant:)
i used to live around the area where you said what do people do at 11:16 its the house you see with red concrete walls at 11:25 not much to do out there then go into the mountains or go play football
Ptarmigan I think you call them in Canada,(or grouse if your british), or "Fjellrype" as we call it in norweegian. They make strange click-cloking sounds.
I am a Bangladeshi citizen Apoorba Rahman, one of the biggest wishes in life is to hope and live in Norway. I want to live a life of happiness, peace and harmony. I want to sow that seed there. I don't know when it will happen but I really want it. Norway is the country of dreams

Unexpectedly? What did you expect at those particular coordinates? You have to tell us about your process, I feel, where you just happen to be somewhere. I feel like such an anal traveller now.
Growing up and living in Tromsø, it's refreshing to see a traveller's perspective of the place
The bird you saw was a ptarmigan in her winter clothes, a member of the grouse family.

I can only imagine the summer 🤩 absolute magic! Thank you for the warm welcome as always! 😁 I’ll keep working towards it one day 🙌
I'm glad that you 2 like our country this much !!
Great video! Nice place! I liked the Arctic cathedral! We have mini libraries like that around where i live but they are not in phone booths. Yeah, you take a book and put one back.
You know I love it when you drop unexpected Norwegian content on us, big love to you and JP x
Oooo ooo! Happy you like it and big hugs from us- from Spain now 😉
Saw the most phenomenal Aurora there 🙌 love Tromsø.
The bird was a wood grouse with white feathers as winter camouflage.
You might know this by now but the «housefire» was a training excercise. Noone harmed and the house was gonna be demolishes anyway
The Fjord called Kaldfjord, the first part, Kald, just means cold in norwegian
We call that bird "Rype" if I'm not mistaken. Fun video! I would not have thought ending up here in Tromsø by accident would be possible 😂

That’s awesome news! Hopefully you can get the chance to check it out 😄 I’m glad you enjoyed!
That bird is a norwegian delicasy! Rype.
I hope you come visit again! I'm born and raised in Tromsø and won't exchange it for anything

Wow you live nearby!? What a treat 🤩 I bet it’s really nice this time of year too
Wow! The fjord looks soo purty!! 😍 what time of the year were you in Tromso? How cold was it in the evenings? Thanks
Think the bird may be what we call _lirype_ or _dalrype_ (or if you're wearing fancypants you'd call it _Lagopus lagopus_ but could also be wrong)
I always wear fancy pants 🤪 * she says with gym shorts *
You could indeed be right! I’m not an expert 😄
@@NatashaBergen nothing wrong with fancy gym pants; if you're into that sort of thing!

This is a type of video I’d watch at 3 am, probably because it is 3 am, but anyways.
Glad you liked being in Tromsø!

You should come back in winter and do some skiing in Lyngen
i used to live around the area where you said what do people do at 11:16 its the house you see with red concrete walls at 11:25 not much to do out there then go into the mountains or go play football
Both are pretty good options :) cool to know! Thanks for sharing!

Oooo yes! You’ve solved the mystery 😄 Thank you!
Tromsø is not that far north. Still 700-800 kms left before you reach the end of Norway.
Normally you can expect to py upwarss of $500 per night for a hotel room during tourist seasons, you got real lucky

You have a rather soothing voice!
Thanks Rob! 😄
Nice! :)

Which month is it?
It was April :)
no northern lights ?
Not in the summer
It was cloudy or stormy every night and we were at ‘the end of the season’
The bird is a grouse
where are you from btw
Canada
You don’t need to say that it was by accident, whoever ends up in Norway obviously did so by accident 😜🇸🇪❤️🇳🇴
😂😂😂 love it Leffe!
hey i can see my house from here
😂

Haha I feel my process would be too boring for a TH-cam vid but loving the passion! 😁
Dont know Why tourists go to Tromsø when you can visit Harstad instead. The way better city in Northern Norway.
That is freakin’ hilarious 😂 Even Narvik is more interesting to visit. Harstad is not even top 10 in northern Norway.
Saw the most phenomenal Aurora there 🙌 love Tromsø.
Ooooo I’m stoked for you! 🤩
