Hi. Thanks for making this video. Very interesting. What did you use to clean it with?

I have installed a Facet electric pump and my 318 starts to starve for gas after mowing for 30 minutes or so. Got the pump mounted correctly, about 4" above the fuel tank pickup. Pump exit above inlet. Even replaced all the lines with heavy duty A1-15 USCG marine rated fuel hose and bypassed the reserve valve, for a more direct setup. Driving me nuts! I'm guessing vapor lock at this point???

What did you use for cleaning solution? Carb cleaner?

To clean these parts I normally just use brake clean. I prefer the WearEver brand from Advanced Auto Parts or the 3M brand. Some brands will eat plastic and rubber.

So if I do decide to put an electric pump onto my 220 do I need to remove the original pump, or just leave it in place?

If my tank is above the engine can this pump be eliminated and my pump only has 3 nipples. Onan 14hp horizontal I put it on a trike with a drift rear on it

question on the original pump that came on the 318, 420, etc. were they all metal including the nipple ends the hoses connect on? I read that a number of people replaced the originals with online retailer units and they broke the nipple fittings off. Wondering if its just bad product material in the newer products?

As far as I know the housing and nipples on these pumps were all plastic. At least all the ones I have worked with have been plastic. Generally to break the nipple off there has to be a blunt force strike of some sort. I have never had a new pump from a non-OEM source that wasn't plastic as well. Hopefully that answers your question.

@@mmrbeef cool. thx Kyle :) the plan is to take the one on the tractor and attempt to clean it good without damaging the gaskets. I bought a fleabay one to replace it just in case I damage it. btw...what liquid did you use to clean the gaskets and diaphragm?

So those pumps have 2 ins and 2 outs... can the in and out be switched inside? I broke the in nipple off when i pulled the motor.. and we have snow coming Wednesday.. lol

Sounds like you are near PA! That is not as easy of a question to answer as it might appear. Some pumps while they have all four outlets, only two are functional. Meanwhile other pumps have four outlets that would be functional. The easiest thing to do is to take the pump apart and see. You could use JB Weld as a quick fix on the busted off side.

Love the pumpkin spice colored gloves. Are they only available around Halloween?
These old pumps are available cheap (made in China of course).
Each of the top and bottom sides of the 4 port fuel pump have an in and out. The biggest pain in the neck is replacing the vacuum line to the crankcase.
As for electric fuel pumps, one needs to find the lowest pressure possible or you risk running the engine rich, or flooding it. If you get in the habit of closing the fuel valve, the lines won't drain back into the tank as quickly, and the engine will start without excessive cranking.
And for the love of Jesus, if people are going to run these 29+ year old machines, pay the extra for ethanol free gasoline (and replace all your fuel lines with Tygon).

Alcohol in fuel mess with the rubber?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I’ve never observed any problems with the fuel pumps and ethanol. Certainly not any issues related to swelling like I have observed with the fuel lines.

@@mmrbeef do you have to pull the motor to service the fuel pump? makes this a bigger job.....
