    I think the hole was from a baby samsquatch

    • @blacksheep9505
      @blacksheep9505 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes exactly, baby samsquanch are known to live in burrows until they grow big enough to fend for themselves, leaving the distinctive row of dirt stretching away from the burrow.

      No, how many times do I have to tell people there are no baby samsquanches in Pa. Only growed up ones!

    That small section of chain came from an Enfield nipple protector, which came off the trigger guard. It is missing the actual nipple cover portion.

      If you ever get around to visit be mindful of where you are. It is the Gettysburg National Battlefield; as a National Park it is a felony with up to $10,000 fines to detect or hunt for relics on park property. You can do it legally on private property surrounding the park, but you will need the permission of the landowner to do so.

    I didn't know this was allowed!!!!! How neat to touch history!!!! I live in KY and the battlefield near me has several signs against metal detecting. I don't know if it's to be respectful of the battle field. It seems that it doesn't do any good in the dirt. I'm from AL and had ancestors fight for the South. I am enjoying this hunt and learning about these artifacts!

    The 'pipe bowl' @ 4:50 looks like the housing for a drain plug, the threads are probably tapered (N.P.T.). Still used today to drain liqued or air from storage tanks. But tell your friend that it was used to inflate small hot air balloons after victorious battles.

    You ever wonder what this stuff actually looked like when it was new?
    Like, generations have came and gone while that stuff was lost in the dirt. It's kinda like bringing the people back to life for a mere moment. You don't know who owned it, but someone touched it and they've been gone for a long time.
    Like, I bought a penny from 1862 the other day. You realize Abe Lincoln could have had that in his pocket. I think that shits cool.

    slow-moving Minie bullet used during the American Civil War caused catastophic injuries. The two minie bullets, for example, that struck John Bell Hood's leg at Chickamauga destroyed 5 inches of his upper thigh bone. This left surgeons no choice but to amputate shattered limbs.

    Looks like a Rabbit/Hare/Jackrabbit warren to me. I'm from Australia so I'm not familiar with some of your wildlife but that's not like any fox den I've seen. Their holes are much bigger, almost as big as a wombat hole (14-18" across) and they tend to enlarge existing hollows and locate their dens near fallen logs or root balls where there is more hard cover. I don't think a fox would ever make a den in the open like that whereas it's typical for Rabbits and Hares.

    • @pyschohippymofo
      @pyschohippymofo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Rabbit hole will be 6-8", usually slightly taller than it is wide. A hare will be closer to 8-10".

      From a book published in 1987 called Guide to the Mammals of PA.... Before 1900, there is only 1 documented occurrence of a badger in PA. And since 1946, there have only been 4 sightings of a badger in PA (2 of those being confirmed escapees). They don't exist here. A badger might stray across from Ohio, but Gettysburg isn't close to the border.

    Did you ever metal detect any percussion caps (brass) anywhere ar are they all rotted away?

    • @canonsburgman
      @canonsburgman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Andy Cyberleader 65 Interesting. Then say at Gettysburg, or any battlefield really, one could document by percussion cap finds where a regiment precisly stood in battle line and fired away. This would be interesting in front of Pickett's Charge. Where did Confederate regiments stand and fire? What was their closest approach by units? And so on. Find a Minnie ball and you never know where it was fired from precisly, but find a line of spent percussion caps and you have found the exact line of a Regiment that stood and fired away.
      I wonder how hard it would be to get approval for an archeological dig ahere Pickets charge was fought?
