@@CruiseRadio could be a bit different when we were already on deck for our departure. Luckily we were on the prior 2 cruises on the same ship. Bummer for new passengers.
Morning Doug, It’s good that Princess is working on the Regal. What these cruises lines should do, once a year take ship out of commission for one week, let crew rest, focus on making sure ship is in safe working order, make cosmetic repairs also. I would think you lose more money and future cruisers having to cancel , refund etc. MSC is moving a ship into Galveston. Major competition begins. With the hassle and inconvenience, no 25% is not enough. Great update Doug. Thanks
Each ship is required to do so every 5 years, but you're not wrong. They would just spread the operating cost over 51 instead of 52 weeks. They are not going to loose their revenue if they can help it. Also, it takes almost 30 hrs each way just for my family to fly from Dallas to Manila to see family. A week is not enough time for most crew to go home.
@@TxGambler77 it was not meant for crew to fly home for the week, even if it’s Peru , let alone Philippines the travel time is forever. It was more for the crew to just breath for a moment.
Good morning , Doug! I fully believe that 25% is not enough. Although we don’t know if they are helping the (unhappy) cruisers with airfare and hotel stays that were pre booked in anticipation of sailing. But I honestly think that more of a future cruise credit is warranted here. Possibly even a 100% one is necessary to make up for their lost leisure. I will watch to see what others will be commenting. Anyways, have a wonderful day and we shall see you tomorrow.
I found out about the cancellation late Wednesday - had to cancel hotel for night before, transfer to port car rental, flight. Since it was so late, I was penalized on all of them - lost over 350.00 in non Princess reservations. As an elite member of princess, I will need to decide if I would use them or find better cruise line. All money back and All other expenses should be refunded and a 50 percent next cruise may make up for some of my time. They knew at least a week ago they would not be ready. Cancel sooner and I would have gotten back more of my money.
Holy crap, Tom. I’m curious if you had travel insurance and if they paid for what you were out. Obviously you cant get the time back. I got stuck in Miami last month when I was flying to Europe and had to use my policy for hotel and expenses. My bag made the plane and I didn’t.
Good morning Doug! I have never had a cruise cancellation. Full refund and maybe a 50% FCC sounds fair. Thanks for the cruise updates and I hope you have a great day!
@@jupitergrlthis. 25% was an insult. 50% is slightly better. It needs to be 100% FCC for us that had the cruise cancelled with less than 36hours notice.
Not enough. So I’m booked on this very same ship in June for a 12 day British Isle cruise. We are arriving in London 5 days early to take in the city. So let’s say I get to London and my 2nd day there they cancel my cruise. I have no hotel reservations for the 12 nights and changing flights will cost me a fortune. If I stay in London, food alone will kill my wallet. I’m out WAY more $$ either way than the 25% FCC.
Exactly. I received an email from a couple they flew in from Europe and were at dinner in Galveston on the previous cancellation. They flew in early to get acclimated to the time and explore. We have never been Canceled either , But 25% sounds a little Low & if Air Fare and Hotel are involved . I hope They do some sort of Filming of the S.S .United States and Her last Travel. Good am Doug.
It was our 10 yr anniversary and our first cruise on Princess. We drive 11 hours to Galveston to get notice on a email less than 48 hours. Our trip was the first canceled one. Very disappointed 😢
No way is 25% sufficient for the disappointment and expenses incurred by these guests. These cruise lines have become so incredibly greedy post-pandemic and it will do anything not to give up a dime of the exorbitant profits they have been raking in. Shame on you Princess.
Better than what Carnival offered. We were on the Vista last Sept when they changed the ports from Grand Turk and Amber Cove and Half moon Cy to Nassau and Freeport. They offered a full refund, or a $200 onboard credit if you went. I canceled and rebooked with MSC. I think they should have done a little more for both but they did not, and I had to jump through hoops to get the refund and I just had them pay off future cruises I had already booked.
Good morning Feel for those that have had their cruise canceled.Woohoo TREASURE already looking for next November .Ty for your updates.Have a wonderful Thursday 😊
We were scheduled to embark on the Regal Princess Oct. 27 sailing. Here’s why it is not enough: for the two of us the total in future cruise credits is about $600. We had less than 48 hours notice. We were already at LAX. We had taken the Airbus and stayed a night in a hotel. Now we have to go through Princess insurance to try to recoup those expenses, as Princess only covers the actual cruise costs, and because we went with Ez air, the flight.
When the September 28 Icon of the Seas sailing was canceled Royal Caribbean gave a full refund PLUS a 100% FCC. And they offered $200 per person for air changes. The Regal Princess compensation is not enough
The “technical repair” was due a FIRE the ship had to engine number 2 while at sea a few days before we docked in London. I was on that portion of the cruise and it was a major fire with smoke from the fire lasting for hours. The captain explained the fire was under control and the ship would continue our leg of the cruise and the following portion which involved crossing of the Atlantic and ending in Galveston.
My portion of the cruise was 12 days. The ship continued the journey to Galveston after docking in Southampton where we disembarked. In answer to your question I might do a lengthy cruise but would advise travelers sailing specifically in the Fall to look for a ship offering a solarium or pool/relaxation area that is enclosed as it was very cold out at sea throughout our cruise which prevented us from enjoying even one day in the outdoor areas. Unfortunately the Regal Princess only offers a very small pool in the interior ( Fifth level) of the ship as part of the spa (additional expense).
Now, the Nov. 10th has been cancelled as well. We just received an email late last night. I wish Princess would let us know a few days early so we can cancel the hotel and other transportation arrangement. Now, we are out of luck with the hotel cancellation and transportation. This is so sad! Will need to think again about booking cruise with Princess.
Mornin' Doug! I think the 25% might be fair if they were also covering cancellation fees, hotel expenses, and the like. They should also be able to book the same cruise in the 90 days or so for the same cost or less, excepting Christmas and New Years cruises
@@CruiseRadio It seems the Joy goes back and forth on this itinerary a lot. It's like a repo cruise, but I don't have to fly across the Atlantic to do it. 25% credit is rather cheap considering plans are made far in advance. For example I work at a Union Shop and I just bid (based on seniority) on my 2025 vacation time. Extreme disappointment for so many guests.
Not too bad, full refund and a 25% future credit. They could have offered less than this and got away with it. I’ve heard of worse deals. However some additional compensation for flight would help to ease the pain.
No full refund and 25% discount in the future is not good based on how late this was done folks will lose airfare and other trip cost, plus other costs *new clothes etc.
Not even close to be a acceptable compensation. 125% won't even cover the cost to get on a new cruise. Then add all the problems a cancelled cruise will give you this close to sailing.
Hubby & me are supposed to sail starting last Oct 27th for a week but we received an email about cancellation of our cruise just 24hrs before boarding. I have already almost done packing so it was really very disappointing that Princess cancelled it just a day before. We were given a full refund but good we just live an hour away from Galveston. We feel for those who might have flew from other states to Texas to board this ship. Too much hassle for the many other cruisers due to the cancellation am sure many got pissed off. It would have our first time to try cruising with Princess but now am not sure if we would want to rebook with them again I think we will just stay with Royal Carribean which is our most favorite cruise line so far.
If the Regal was coming off such an extended cruise, Princess should have built into the schedule that there would be no cruise bookings for at least a month afterwards so they could do a complete go-over for any possible issues. Perhaps - PERHAPS - this might have avoided these cancellations/postponements. And no I’ve thankfully never had plans for a cruise that the line cancelled. But when they do it at the last minutes like this, they should not only offer full refunds and a hearty future cruise credit, they should also be responsible for covering your airfare whether you booked through the line or not. None of this “we’ll take care of everything if you butcher air through us but if you did it independently that you’re tough luck” BS. You cancelled ME. You pay my penalties.
If a cruise line inconveniences its guests by cancelling a cruise, the right thing to do is to provide a full refund and a.100% future cruise credit. We have received a 30% FCC from other cruise lines for nothing more than problems with our stateroom. To get this kind of low FCC for a cancelled cruise is unacceptable and unfair to their guests.
We were on that ship for the TA crossing. She had an engine fire before we got on in Southampton. She had a complete power failure in Grand Cayman. We missed Spain altogether due to weather. All together it was a disappointing cruise.
That would stand but if you booked it two years ago, cruise prices are up 25 to 43%, so even with the 25% and refund, you still may be under for another cruise. Albeit you are getting back what you paid.
Typical of Princess management to low ball compensation for disrupting your plans that were probably made a year in advance. This only is helping Princess’s reputation get worse.
The cruise industry is getting the better deal. More money should be spent on maintaining the cruise ship, so it doesn't run into these problems. Cruise refunds don't take in account what people have spent to get where they need to be for the cruise vacation Hotels, air travel, etc. and the money to get back home.
IMO it’s very telling what a cruise line thinks of its guests if all they offer is the refund, 25% FCC, and $200 air. Unless there is more I have not seen. Cancellation letters from both sailings have poured in to the tip line. What i mentioned is all ive seen.
This is the reason to have full travel insurance. If you had a plane reservation you are out of luck. If you reserved a hotel - money gone. A Last minute cancellation should command more than 25 percent.
Good morning Doug and thank you for reporting… I've never had a cruise be canceled nonetheless so close to sailing date… I do not believe that a full refund and 25% future Cruise credit is enough compensation… Some people may be at the port already… What about hotel, travel expenses etc. I think I might be upset and I don't get upset easily😢
Oh my! poor Regal. But since its last minute compensation certainly should be more. A-refund and at least 50% FCC. Thx Doug..looking forward to the review of Rotterdam🚢🙂
@ No…I moved from Florida to Texas and i still prefer to leave from there. As it takes just as long for me to get to Florida as it does to leave from my Texas home to Galveston.. Next trip is cruising on the Caribbean Princess Dec 1 out of port Canaveral
100 plus 25% is not a fair refund. What RCL did was 100% plus 100% future cruise credit was more fair. When people take vacation /pto from their jobs, it totally disrupts their life when a cruise is canceled They probably cannot undo that and they really need that time off to be spent relaxing on a ship with no cooking and cleaning for a week or more
The 25% FCC is not enough. In reality it’s peanuts for all the hassle of a last minute cancellation. We were to be on the Nov 3 sailing. As an off season sailing, prices were low, resulting in a total of $286 for our cabin. Meanwhile booking another more expensive Princess cruise costs more than that. Besides, we had to cancel hotel and parking reservations, and research bookings all over again. Boo to Princess.
Pls report the full story. Princess knew well ahead of issuing a "Voyage Cancellation" notice late the evening of Friday, 25OCT2024 that the ship was compromised. This includes a reported fire onboard Regal in late September and full loss of the power plant while under sail. Princess issuing notice on 25OCT just minutes before closing offices for the weekend is unprofessional at best. Compound this with the fact that my call to their Customer Service that evening clearly revealed (a) I knew of cancellation BEFORE their own staff ("oh, that email is an error"), and (b) my travel advisor was also completely unaware having NOT received any notice. Offering a 25% future credit is a bit of a joke... e.g. 25% time $0 spend = $0. I personally will never travel with a cruise line who has abysmal technology (app and underlying processes are awful); who fails to communicate internally and very poorly externally; and, who essentially sees the voyage experience from the moment of booking ONLY through their own eyes, not all the client's view, is recipe is trouble. Count me out of anything to do with Princess or it's parent company Carnival.
That’s nothing..of course they had to refund…but only 25% on future cruise????? What about the loss of airfare, rescheduling time off work etc? They should provide free cruise
I think when it comes to a cruise, there are a lot of moving parts and if you booked a long time ago, the prices are likely much higher now. At least with a flight they will accommodate you on the next flight (if that is an option for you) with no extra fee. Just my opinion tho.
I feel bad for the passengers who were looking forward to their cruise on Princess. Hopefully they can maybe find an alternate vacation destination quickly!
No it is definitely not fair those people are out probably two motel nights and all the airfares depending on how many were even in their party it is a no wayfarer they could have done a lot better than that.
I didn’t see the guest letter but i would def have a travel insurance policy with that. Those things come in very handy. I had to use last month when my flight was diverted.
Not right!!! People will have to reschedule everything, and 25% is peanuts. Shame on Princess for being cheap, especially during record profits!! The cruise industry needs to stop, or we need to stop cruising and send our message loud and clear!! Stop the gouging and stop the cheat!!!

This is the reason to have full travel insurance. If you had a plane reservation you are out of luck. If you reserved a hotel - money gone. A Last minute cancellation should command more than 25 percent.
Good morning thank you
Good belated morning!
MANY were already at the port on both cruises.
@ very sad 😞
I think it is. But i have never had that happen to me either
Let’s hope we both stay cancel free. Have a nice weekend.
Such detailed news. Good job ❤
Thank you so much 😀
They should offer a higher future cruise credit
HAPPY HALLOWEEN DOUG!! 🖤🎃🎃🤎🤎🎃🖤🍂🎃👻👻👻❤️❤️🍂🍁❤️🍂🍃🍂🖤🤎👻🎃🎃🤎👻👻🧡❤️🖤🖤❤️
Oh my! poor Regal. But since its last minute compensation certainly should be more. A-refund and at least 50% FCC. Thx Doug..looking forward to the review of Rotterdam🚢🙂
Agreed! Do you ever jump on Princess out of Texas in the winter? Thank you.
@ No…I moved from Florida to Texas and i still prefer to leave from there. As it takes just as long for me to get to Florida as it does to leave from my Texas home to Galveston.. Next trip is cruising on the Caribbean Princess Dec 1 out of port Canaveral
How about the cost for canceling or changing your airfare.
They gave $200 pp
No, it’s not fair. They should give you a 50% Cruise credit people has been inconvenience.
100 plus 25% is not a fair refund. What RCL did was 100% plus 100% future cruise credit was more fair. When people take vacation /pto from their jobs, it totally disrupts their life when a cruise is canceled
They probably cannot undo that and they really need that time off to be spent relaxing on a ship with no cooking and cleaning for a week or more
The 25% FCC is not enough.
I meant a $286 FCC
Doug, Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie are not animals! 😮 Where's your magic? 😉
lol
Not at all.
I think it is fair when compared to other conveyance means. I've had flights cancelled and didn't get anything so 25% is a bonus.
I think when it comes to a cruise, there are a lot of moving parts and if you booked a long time ago, the prices are likely much higher now. At least with a flight they will accommodate you on the next flight (if that is an option for you) with no extra fee. Just my opinion tho.
No
25% is not sufficient,,,
This is why I don't use any cruise line that's not royal caribbean
Fair
I feel bad for the passengers who were looking forward to their cruise on Princess. Hopefully they can maybe find an alternate vacation destination quickly!
For their sake, I hope it was a lot of locals and not many international. There were quite a few on the first cancellation. Have a great weekend.
@ Agreed! Have a great weekend too!
No it is definitely not fair those people are out probably two motel nights and all the airfares depending on how many were even in their party it is a no wayfarer they could have done a lot better than that.
There's no way to fight this unfair refund. Boycotting can be effective if it's organized.
25% is garbage. They need to offer full refunds and another Cruise sorry.
They need to reimburse travel also
I didn’t see the guest letter but i would def have a travel insurance policy with that.
It def feels like a slim offer, esp when you consider Galveston isnt the easiest port to get into.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃….
Happy belated!
They never refunded me on a cancel trip to Japan due to covid lost deposit of $600
😢
Carnival taking on those pesky kids running amuk yippee!!!
They will try.
