The current contract with Zen finishes next month and I have just ordered this 900 mbps service. Had 100 Mbps down and 100 Mbps up on 2005 in one of Eastern European country. Now there available 1 Gbps/1Gbpsfibre broadband for 17.99 Euro/month. Where fibre not available - 150 Mbps broadband over mobile 4G network and +500 Mbps over 5G network. UK - third world country.
Completely agree about the BT MFND, when the old up to 78Mb fibre launched it wasn't long until I was purchasing a Netgear Nighthawk....Let's just say I never looked back since!

Thanks for the review, Ryan. I’ve had BT full fibre 900 for about 7 weeks and it’s been consistently good and reliable. Will you be doing a guide on how to get the best WiFi around the house with speeds like this?
It's recently arrived in my area and am debating on whether to go with the 500 which includes the WiFi discs and backup 4g connection or pay few £s more for 900 without those extras.
So I got the full 900 but whenever I do a speed test, the highest result I've had was 290Mbps down and 95 up but I should be getting a minimum of 450 Mbps to my understanding. Also, that's what BT says as my Stay Fast Guarantee (SFG) . I've given it almost a week but the result is pretty much the same. Whenever I do a speed check on my BT app, it shows that from the cabinet to my house is within SFG but between the router and my devices is where approximately 300 Mbps is showing.
You need to be connecting using ethernet really, sometimes WiFi can be running fast enough but very rarely will be good enough for a gigabit internet connection.
4:25 it's unlikely that an issue with your console's mechanical disk. Even if it's fitted with a slower 5400RPM disk they can typically write sequentially in excess of 90/100MBps which is at the top end of a Gigabit link. If I had to guess it's due to either a limited WLAN connection or if hardwired to a switch it might just be an under powered NIC.
I also live in Cornwall, and we’ve just had openreach come along and fit fibre to the street ready for the switch-on in 2022Q4. Christmas came early, though a lot later than most of Europe! 😅
Do you get an improvement in Netflix? As for the roll out absolutely no sign of it around here. With my luck I'll be the last flat in the UK to get FTTP.
What residential devices allow you use the 2 and 5 gig internet you talk of at the beginning ? Games consoles only have a one gig port as with laptops and pc ?
Hi, just wondered if someone could help. I went for the 900 package and I’m only getting 350mbps connect to home hub2 via cat7 Ethernet cable. Rang BT and they said that it’s fine ? And I’m getting 700mbps to the door. BT engineer came to test the hub and said it’s good and something about you have to change the settings so it just goes to one device to be able to get stated speeds. Is this right or am I being spun a yarn ? Tia
I'm hopefully upgrading to this package next week, had horrendous problems trying to upgrade to this, even though I've had fiber to the home for a long time. Do you know if BT is rolling this out to every fiber to the home customer?
Apologies I'm very ignorant with this internet jargon. I picked this plan as I wanted to have the fastest and most reliable wifi connection for my xbox games (sick of laggin) Yet I have been unable to check whether I am getting the actual 900 mbps as the BT app is not working for me. Customer service can not handle my complaint (long story) anyways I run my wifi test and it shows 314 Mbps download/106 upload. Am I being ripped off here. All I want to know.
I will be getting the BT FF 900 in our new build house when we move in later this month. It’s a 4 bedroom house with the master bedroom in a loft conversion, so 3 floors, ground, 1 floor & 2nd floor (loft conversion) … So what router would you recommend to upgrade to??
I’m having the same package installed in October (North Wales) - I’ll let you know how it goes - just to point out that if you aren’t happy - in the T&C’s - you are entitled to leave the contract if you aren’t getting the speeds promised in the first month.
Hello mate, thanks for the video. Can I ask what your would advise as a replacement for the standard BT Router they issue? Is there a better suggestion?
I have BT FTTP but on a 80/20 package. I get 74-76 down and 20-22 up. I run all my network through Unifi gear and it's been super stable since 2017 excluding 2 overnight blackouts from the exchange. I've not used any ISP hardware since I first got FTTC in my old flat where I PPPOE to the old white BT modem (which they no longer do) into 3rd party routers
@@garethwigglesworth8187 yes but it’s what I was paying for. FTTP allows you to go gigabit but you don’t need to pay for it if you don’t need it. I have a new build so came with FTTP. I’ve now moved to Vodafone and get 100/20 (generally get 110 down) for less than I was paying BT for 80/20

Apparently ultrafast fibre is coming to my area within the next 2 years, according to openreach. BT supposedly will give me a free upgrade to full fibre 100, but for some reason i feel like they won't.
I'm paying nearly the same as you and I'm getting a 55Mb - 61Mb Download speed and 16Mb - 17Mb upload speed that's ridiculous! Why are they charging so much for much lower speeds or am I missing something? i have checked and it's the best we can get no full fibre in our area 😔
I’m on the same package and find the SH2 to be very unreliable and was thinking of changing to the ASUS RT AX86u. Is it as simple as plugging the new router into the ONT and creating a Wi-fi device name and password or is there settings I need to extract from the Smart Hub?
Bought full fibre 900 and they sent us a smart hub 2 only managed to test wifi speed and old/nee devices same result speedtest around 80-90mbps. Changed the cable that goes WAN to the ethernet port same result. Is there limitations to SH2?. Our ONT is in garage which connected to an ethernet port beside it which thrn routes/connected to the eth ports in the house. SH2 connected in the living room eth port. Also checked firmware says up to date. Seem no way to manually update it. Dont think fttp need stability period but will wait couple of days and call BT if no change. Edit: just checked admin console. wan link speed: only 100mbps is this right or should that say 1000?
I’ve just been on to BT as I use sky at the comment and it’s so bad, they told me they can put fibre optic 1 to us but they are just going to send out a router? My current router is plugged in via a DSL phone line cable, how do I tell if we have fibre? Thanks
If it's using a DSL phone cable then it's not full fibre. To get that you'd need an openreach engineer to install a new fibre box in your wall. This is only offered to areas that have FTTP available.
You might be interested to know that Residential FTTx uses GPON meaning only a single fibre from the OLT serves up to 32 premises. Dedicated circuits (Ethernet) on the otherhand are available but very very expensive so only business typically use it.
I've never had an issue with BT smart hubs in 15 years of fibre and now the 900mb, I currently get 920mb own 120 up with a crappy old laptop with a gig port and that's solid every day, never drops. Where it will catch you out now is that if you want a landlines, they only offer voip in new builds that don't have any copper wire and you can only use this with a bt router. Bt are phasing out copper phone lines and they won't be supported after 2025
Quite a high ping for full fibre! With ADSL, we had 3Mbps down and 12 - 15ms ping and with VDSL2 now we get 80Mbps and 9ms - 11ms ping. It is partly an infrastructure issue and partly greed. Openreach provides FTTP through GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) split between several houses. This is in contrast to PtP - Point to Point fibre networks, in which each subscriber has their own dedicated fibre. GPON is asymmetrical, which means that the download is much faster than the upload, although this can be upgraded to XGS-PON (or 10Gb Symmetrical Passive Optical Network) fairly easily with a technology swap at either end of the fibre. Even though this upgrade is possible, it's unlikely to happen any time soon due to: 1) Business-class leased lines with symmetrical speeds make lots more money than consumer lines and upgrading would cannibalise these. That's is where the greed part comes in! 2) Only ~14% of the UK has FTTP. Openreach are focused on rolling it out rather than upgrading for the time being. 3) Unnecessary expense - not many people would take the premium, faster packages, so is upgrading the infrastructure really worth it for just a few people? Not an expert, just taking my guess

Great video mate, we go live with 900mb onTuesday with FTTH, one question BT guy couldn’t answer: can I use the Hub 1, which is better for me as I can split the GHz which is very handy...unlike the Hub 2 which you can’t. Why would I want that you may ask, well I would rather set my Ring Camera to 2.4 so it has a solid connection most of the time, not fluctuate between 2.4 and 5 as there may be a day someone comes into the back garden and it decides to flick GHz channel and loses the recording....which isn’t good :(
I can answer the question easily for you - unplug the junk and start using real stuff which will allow you to fully utilise the full fibre connection. Anything will be better than this BT Hub, believe me.
Would like to hear more on this, given the huge rollout of FTTP.. would be good to learn about the best switches, WiFi 6 routers (are they even necessary )and what is 6E. All in preparation of getting FTTP.
Just upgraded to the Full Fibre 900 and unfortunately I have not been hitting anywhere close to the 910mb download that was advertised. I tend to only get around 240mb or if I'm lucky 410. My upload is fine I always tend to get around 100mb which was advertised its just the download thats the problem. I always use a wired connection and I never get anywhere near the 910mb that was advertised. I have looked around and many people are saying its a problem with the smart hub 2 and apparently an update is meant to come out in October.
Hi Kev. I’ve seen reports of this being an issue with the SH2. You can’t rule out other possibilities but it’s likely. If all fails, I recommend purchasing a third party MFND to give you the correct speeds.
I remember dial up where you blocked the phone line. That and download speeds measure in kilobits and not Mbits. I remember downloading music at 2k or less. A 50Mbit video took 8hrs if it didn't disconnect in that time.
No sort of fibre, to cabinet or premises available here, and I'm (just) within Greater London. ADSL over a copper pair is the best we can get. This is giving about 11 Mb/s down and 1.1 up. download is reasonable but a faster upload would be useful. I'm quite a distance from the exchange and I think it's actually pretty remarkable that they manage to get 11 Mb through that, it's faster than Ethernet was not that many years ago. I'm old enough to remember 110 Baud modems by the way.
Stephen, we had a similar situation max 11 Mb/s down , staying in a semi rural small town in Scotland . Gave up on BT and went with 3 4g home broadband we average out in the 30-40 Mb/s down and 20 up. We got a new deal at unlimited downloads for £16 a month usually around £22.
My smart hub 2 is very good. With the bt WiFi disc also I get 70mbps in every room of my house. Very happy with it and very low pings
@@JudeTheTH-camPoopersubscribe My Home Hub 3 was abysmal, constant drop outs, requiring resets and poor range. Difference with the Nighthawk is day and night, no more drop outs or resets, coverage is much improved too. If you get on fine with your home hub then that's great, I know version 5 or 6 are better.

Hi I'm pretty much the same did you ever get it fixed
You need to be connecting using ethernet really, sometimes WiFi can be running fast enough but very rarely will be good enough for a gigabit internet connection.
I’ve had it now for six months and it’s amazing never dropped once have got 900 up and always hit that and 100 down
4:25 it's unlikely that an issue with your console's mechanical disk.
Surprising that Cornwall gets it better than some parts of London!!!
Do you get an improvement in Netflix? As for the roll out absolutely no sign of it around here. With my luck I'll be the last flat in the UK to get FTTP.
Hi Ryan,
Can I connect the Openreach ONT directly into another MFND rather than the rubbish BT Smart Hub 2 ?
Please do let me know

Absolutely. That’s how I do it! Just login with the BTHomeHub username and password on your new unit and away you go.
I use a BT extender on my bottom floor
I’m having the same package installed in October (North Wales) - I’ll let you know how it goes - just to point out that if you aren’t happy - in the T&C’s - you are entitled to leave the contract if you aren’t getting the speeds promised in the first month.
How did it go?
Hello mate, thanks for the video.
Can I ask what your would advise as a replacement for the standard BT Router they issue? Is there a better suggestion?
I have BT FTTP but on a 80/20 package. I get 74-76 down and 20-22 up. I run all my network through Unifi gear and it's been super stable since 2017 excluding 2 overnight blackouts from the exchange. I've not used any ISP hardware since I first got FTTC in my old flat where I PPPOE to the old white BT modem (which they no longer do) into 3rd party routers
80/20 from fttp is bad. I get that on fttc.

Yes
Currently on bt 250mb, they give me a ten pounds a month discount off the standard price. Called them about 900, they will gladly give it to me for.... full price. Doh! Will wait for a special offer I think
Imagine not having a symmetrical fiber connection in 2020
We do have symmetrical fibre, All be it from other providers.

Full Fibre 900 with own router
The ONT is the modem so no third party modem is needed. Any router with a wan port should connect to the ONT
Yeah that’s what I said in the video.
I just hope that they bring in same speed for uploads
Whilst easily possible, very unlikely for the forseeable. It'd kill their leased line business.
Biggest issue with the BT Hub is the ‘smart’ wifi channel switching. It simple doesn’t work. Turn it off and the problems disappear.

I’m on the same package and find the SH2 to be very unreliable and was thinking of changing to the ASUS RT AX86u.
Is it as simple as plugging the new router into the ONT and creating a Wi-fi device name and password or is there settings I need to extract from the Smart Hub?
Hi mate. You just need the login which is bthomehub@btinternet.com and password: either blank or BT
Strange. I've never had problems using smart hub 2 on WiFi or ethernet
How will i know if full fiber is available in my area? i cant see any 1gb package online

What third party router do you use?
Bought full fibre 900 and they sent us a smart hub 2 only managed to test wifi speed and old/nee devices same result speedtest around 80-90mbps. Changed the cable that goes WAN to the ethernet port same result.
Is there limitations to SH2?. Our ONT is in garage which connected to an ethernet port beside it which thrn routes/connected to the eth ports in the house. SH2 connected in the living room eth port. Also checked firmware says up to date. Seem no way to manually update it.
Dont think fttp need stability period but will wait couple of days and call BT if no change.

The PS5 is a little weird is was reporting various speeds highest being 575Mb and as low as 420Mb even though at the same time the xbox was showing 955? not sure if the PS5 test procedure is a little off but anyway. Similiar downloads in reality did a 21gig download in around 2.5mins so throughput is the same.

Also the best connection in the UK for gaming is from ghost broadband. Check them out guys.
Why is the upload around 110 in the UK? other countries able to get over 500 upload, is this an infrastructure issue?
They're greedy
It is partly an infrastructure issue and partly greed.
Openreach provides FTTP through GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) split between several houses. This is in contrast to PtP - Point to Point fibre networks, in which each subscriber has their own dedicated fibre. GPON is asymmetrical, which means that the download is much faster than the upload, although this can be upgraded to XGS-PON (or 10Gb Symmetrical Passive Optical Network) fairly easily with a technology swap at either end of the fibre.
Even though this upgrade is possible, it's unlikely to happen any time soon due to:
1) Business-class leased lines with symmetrical speeds make lots more money than consumer lines and upgrading would cannibalise these.

Stephen, we had a similar situation max 11 Mb/s down , staying in a semi rural small town in Scotland . Gave up on BT and went with 3 4g home broadband we average out in the 30-40 Mb/s down and 20 up. We got a new deal at unlimited downloads for £16 a month usually around £22. Though low and behold Openreach is installing ultrafast in our area , we should have access to it in the next coupe of months. I also remember the treacle slow modems :-) th-cam.com/video/ckc6XSSh52w/w-d-xo.html
