  • There are three main differences among Harpsicle harps: levers, wood, and the thickness of the four bass strings. The book You Can Teach Yourself Lever Harp works perfectly this range of harp - grab it on Amazon: amzn.to/3kUD9pM

I'd love a little more info about how important it is to have more levers. Like how long until you hit a wall in the learning process on base vs sharpsicle vs flat vs full? If you are paying $1200 for a full might it be worth it to get something more serious? Things like this.

Have you thought of reviewing the Harpsicle Brilliant at any point? From what I can tell, it's very new and there are only like two videos, which are from the company themselves. I had been told that sometimes the grand harpsicle can have some buzzing due to low string tension, and was wondering if they ended up fixing this.

Would you recommend a harpsicle, flat or sharp for a beginner ?

I have a quick question. What's the difference between a lever harp and a harpsicle?
Also, I want to learn the harp but they're a little too expensive for me. So I looked into it and fullsicles are something that I can actually afford. So I wanted to know if a Fullsicle is similar or more like a mini lever harp? Because I wanted to take it step by step(knowing it might take a while for me to actually be able to get a harp, especially a pedal) so I just wanted to know if learning the harpsicle(Fullsicle, flatsicle, whichever lol) would help me with learning the lever harp **ALSO which fullsicle would you recommend for a beginner? **

Great question! So the basic Harpsicle has no levers, but any harp with levers = a lever harp. The only small difference is that the string spacing on the Harpsicle is ever so slightly smaller. So it takes a bit of adjusting to move to a larger harp, but there's no reason you couldn't learn harp on a Harpsicle - I did! :D
For a beginner, I think the Fullsicle is a great option if budget is no issue. Depending on the music you like to play, you will likely appreciate the extra levers. On the other hand, if your budget is more limited, I think a Sharpsicle will do most people just fine for most playing. If you have a luthier nearby or if you can convince the Harpsicle company to give you a middle G lever so you can use G# for medieval music, then you're golden!
      I hope that helps :D

Yes, a harpsicle is a lever harp. It's just the name of the line of harps made by Rees Harps. They're light, portable, and (relatively) affordable. Even a harp with no levers is a lever harp. It's the design of the harp and the size that makes something a lever harp vs a pedal harp.

When you tune from C to E flat, are
you tuning up or down? Using different gauge strings? As a guitar player, I have a natural fear of breaking strings.

To tune it to Eb (or Cm), you just have to lower all your levers. Basically you put down the E to transform it into an E flat, as well as the A and the B (so you get it, in a standart configuration, to be in C major, your levers are up on the E, the A and the B. all the other levers are down.). I hope that's clear (Im not english sorry!)
edit: if you are on an harpcicle without any levers, and still want to transform your harp into an Eb, you just have to lower your E into an Eb, your A into an Ab, and B into Bb (to do that you turn the tuner in your direction, if you go on the other direction you would en up with an E# (or Db .. depending about the tuner you are having). If that happens just turn back to the other direction :)

Hi! As I see you are a musician I have a question for you I would apreciate if you can share your knowledge!
So, I played piano as a kid for 7 years but I don't have a good knowledge of music theory ( justs the basics).
I wanna learn music theory but also mostly harmony.
So harmony is like... that music subject when you learn about all the chords and how to mix it to writte good songs.
I remember in my music school the harmony class was done just with piano or guitar.
My question is , is it possible to study harmony , on the harp?
For example, in a violin or a flute you cant study harmony.
You need to switch to piano for a while to have proper knowledge of it.
But the harp seems to be like a piano with just with strings.
Before I buy a harp which is very expensive, I wanna know if I will be able to study harmony with it and to acompany diferent songs.
I like piano but if I can choose , I really really love the sound of the harp its absolutely magical.
Could you tell me about it? Is it possible to study harmony on the harp?
      Thanks!

Sharpsicle Harp, or flatsicle? If you could only buy one as your first time ever harp what would you go for, and why? What music is more popular to play on each one? Lastly why are Celtic harps less money? Can you play the same music on them? Is there a difference? -Thank you \(^.^)/ I've only ever seen youtube videos on harps. The Husband says I husband says I must hold one in my arms before I buy one. ~*~

Celtic harps are less expensive in large part because of the sharping levers vs the pedals. A pedal harp has very complex internal structuring with the pedals on the floor acting to sharp/flat a note in the middle of a piece for being able to play accidentals mid-piece. A lever harp (Celtic harp) has to be set before the song starts and your then stuck in that key without being able to add accidentals mid-song. Also a pedal harp is typically much larger than a Celtic harp. Hope this helps!

Also regarding hubby - you can rent to own (or just rent) a harp from Vermont Violins. They offer Harpsicles as well as other, even better harps for a monthly fee. If you keep paying, you own it after 24 months. But you can also just try it out for a month and then buy it outright if you find you love it.
