Full of cloudy dreams; unreal Full of tastes no tongue can know And lights no eye can see When there was no ear to hear You sang to me I have spent my life Seeking all that's still unsung Bent my ear to hear the tune And closed my eyes to see When there were no strings to play You played to me In the book of love's own dreams Where all the print is blood Where all the pages are my days And all my lights grow old When I had no wings to fly You flew to me You flew to me In the secret space of dreams Where I dreaming lay amazed When the secrets all are told And the petals all unfold When there was no dream of mine You dreamed of me
It's a sad day, but it's beautiful to listen to all these different interpretations of his words. He'll be the author of the soundtrack of so many people's lives for years to come. Including mine.
I would imagine Phil Lesh must be almighty proud of his son Grahame and his band's rendition of this song. All I can say is , "Absolutely lovely." It almost makes you wonder if musical ability is genetically passed on from generation to generation.
I think there is some of that, sure. But I also think that the number one factor that makes a musician good is passion. I always tell my students that if they're having fun, they'll get better without even trying. I didn't have any musicians in my family growing up, but music has always been fun for me, so without really even trying, I got better. But I definitely do believe in reincarnation and past lives!
Well, his dad is one of the members of the greatest band ever, so he grew up part of the long, strange trip. There could be genetics in the mix, but the environment he came up in was way more than enriching.
My fave Dead song (Aside from Monkey and the Engineer). I saw this live Once. 73 Carina's, no Dark Star or Terrapin. I got to see this perfect GEM. Great pick. Well done. I have spent my life.....
Everyday I tell my fellow, Living in the Past, Octogenarians. There's a shit load of new talent out there, you just have to search it out. I'm Glad I took my own advice and found you. Well done. Very well done.
excellent, excellent, excellent job. vocals and harmonies are wonderful! Been trying {sorta} to record this solo, with bunch of tracks, and overdubs, Found the "songs of our own" and found some real cool stuff. You guys, I thought you did a lovely rendition, and the China Doll ending was real sweet!
Beautiful song, one of my favorites since the first time I heard the Dead do it. Nicely done. Just to nit-pick I'd leave the bass off the intro lick though.
David Jacuk one of the best comments on any Dead related thing I’ve ever read anywhere. 👏. I’m certainly a citizen, as I suspect you are. Much love ❤️!
I have tears in my eyes. One, because that was so beautifully done; two, remembering how much money I've spent at that bar in the corner.
heh heh
Full of cloudy dreams; unreal

When there was no ear to hear
You sang to me
I have spent my life
Seeking all that's still unsung
Bent my ear to hear the tune
And closed my eyes to see
When there were no strings to play
You played to me
In the book of love's own dreams
Where all the print is blood
Where all the pages are my days
And all my lights grow old
When I had no wings to fly
You flew to me
You flew to me
In the secret space of dreams
Where I dreaming lay amazed
When the secrets all are told

When there was no dream of mine
You dreamed of me
Rest In Peace, Robert Hunter. What a perfect song!

Amen. A true poet who left us with these beautiful words.
True; Jerry was there too.

What's to wonder? Of course, it's nature and nurture, but it sure is great that Grahame is an excellent musician and into continuing the legacy.

I liked from the moment they said they wanted to cover it because it's one of the harder ones. Great harmonies.
Gave me goosebumps! So good!! Phil Lesh's son is carrying on the tradition! Love it!
The "China Doll" ending is beautiful.
Just lovely. Nice how they tacked on the China Doll riff at the end : )

I didn't even realize he may be my favorite member until I was 20.
(I started listening when I was 12)

Great
God, the Grateful Dead knew how to write music.
These kids are good
Decent effort
Fuck yeah
The lyrics are very much like the Sufi poetry of Kabir.
Phil's kid does pretty good on this song
Are the opening notes changed?
no. those are the original notes.
I hesitate to say it...but at least as good as the original.
The three people who disliked this are probably phish fans.
