Completely agree. I bought a 23, mostly for lousy Ottawa climates and the fact it was an AWD manual. But I'm slowly discovering things about it that are so subtle that make it a great ride in it's own right. It's not a drag racer or a track queen. But it has it's own qualities in certain situations. It's out there to be discovered. Starting with a low center of gravity.
This is why I literally never listen to anybody when something new drops. I initially said that this was a great car and will do well while everyone else was having a conniption fit over the cladding. Turns out its an amazing car and the tuning Subaru did for the 2.4 blows the 2.0 out of the water.
I picked up a premium 23 in white about 3 weeks ago. It is the 4th wrx I've bought brand new. Living in the northeast, the biggest reason for the enthusiast on a budget to pick this car over everything else is the winter capability. Throw a set of snow tires on it, and you have a bulletproof commuter that's also a hell of a lot of fun, year round.
@Miguel_7 Depends on your budget, but I think most people would say it is. I know the limited has nicer seats and a good sounding stereo. The stereo in the premium is kind of trash, in my opinion. Plus, the premium has blind spot monitoring and other belts and whistles like navigation, I think (which is not good if it's anything like the nav in my 21 Outback).
For the price point, it’s a nice bargain and one thing I can say about the brand is that they didn’t go crazy on the markup like other brands. They tried it but most of these you can get for Msrp which is reasonable
That's the benefit of a car that is "hated" by the internet/journalists. In contrast, cars like the FL5 Civic Type R or CT4-V Blackwing are widely beloved, so dealers use that positive influence to "justify" any markups placed on it.
I am freaking in love with my 22 premium MT. My dad bought a 23 limited MY yesterday he loved riding along in mine so much. I had a 19 Golf R and he had a 19 RS5 and both of us are huge fans of the VB.
I had a 2015 STI I got brand new, I was going to trade it in for the 2022 STI but then subaru canceled it. I looked everywhere for a suitbale alternative, TLX type S, Golf R, Type R etc etc. The closest thing I found to an STI alternative in terms of awd, compact sedan, unique engine note, easy to modify and tune, track ready, drive train performance etc etc was an Audi RS3, so I looked into it. Pricey yes, but my STI was paid off, low milage, 1 owner. I got 28k in equity trade in for it, I didn't want to down grade to a wrx coming from an STI so I naturally stayed away from the new wrx. So i ended up getting a CPO 2018 RS3 with extended warranty, 8k miles, 1 owner, with trade in and 5k down, I only financed 22k. It's literally an STI on steroids. It's everything that the STI should have and could have been if subaru put in the effort into R&D like they used to. Highly recommend looking into an rs3 it will blow your mind coming from a subaru or type R.
I would have been open to an RS3 if they made them with a manual gearbox, it's just really difficult for me to enjoy sports cars unless they come with a manual gearbox.
My first look at your channel and of course it is because i am a new WRX owner.I have always had a thing for them and now the box is finally ticked.I have just become the proud owner of a low km 2022 WRX TS wagon here in Australia which may be a Levorg still in the States? Oh yeah, I know everyone wants more power, but this is a WRX not a STI or other "super car" for that matter. So, I'm going to love it for what it is! Cheers!
Thanks a lot I really appreciate your comment, I traded out of this particular WRX so I can build a race car for the channel but I already miss it and I plan on buying another one in 2024 because they truly are amazing vehicles.
I test drove an MK8 GTI Autobahn and a WRX (Premium) back to back and it wasn't even close. The GTI had better inputs via the clutch and gearbox, felt way faster because of the higher torque, better brakes, but the biggest difference was the steering and turn-in of the GTI - it was so much sharper and communicative. Argulably though, the WRX is a "cooler" car, it sounds better too. The gas mileage in the GTI is much better too, and doesn't even need premium fuel. I hope that Subaru ups their game in the next refresh bringing in Brembo brakes, a tighter steering feel, a more aggressive tune for HP and torque, and maybe some real carbon fiber. Edit: I literally just saw that Subaru introduced a 2024 WRX TR model which added everything I just mentioned above haha 😂
I’m happy I inspired you to make this video today!! This video almost made me run to a Subaru dealership. Great sound system! Great little car. What an ending to your video!! That black type r my god!!!❤🔥
I switched Subaru dealers because the service was a joke at competition Subaru and the new dealer charged me for my first oil change on my 23. When it comes to service it seems like they don’t want to do anything. They’re always looking to void the warranty if you do anything aftermarket to it. Maybe it’s just the 2 dealers I’ve been to in ny. What really stinks is I paid 4200$ for the extended warranty. I called Subaru America and they did absolutely nothing. I can’t even get them to call me back. I get a bs email.
Man it's crazy it seems like Subaru dealerships up north are horrible and the Subaru dealerships down south are pretty much amazing, I wonder why it's like that.
I purchase my 2024 wrx TR in silver for 2k under msrp 41k here in Northern California after test driving the 2024 GR corolla the Honda Civic Si I choose the wrx specially because it has electric driver seat is a shame that GR corolla and civic SI and type R with high mark ups don’t even have electric seats

I’m new to the channel so forgive me, but if this car was so nice why did you drop it for the GTI? I’m kind of cross shopping a Civix Si, WRX, and GTI at the moment
Lol great question, the answer is that I'm a car nut and I go in and out of cars a lot, Ive been trying to find the best fit for me and for right now the GTI and the Type R is the best fit for now, I may switch out one of them for a Golf R or BMW M3 or Porsche 911 at some point or I may just go crazy modding these and adding on those other cars later on. They don’t get good gas mileage, the interior isn’t very much better than a Corolla, and the overall build quality is really suspect with how much road noise there is. I wanted to love these, but after several test drives I just left feeling like it drives the same as a much cheaper car despite the fact it’s supposed to be an enthusiast car.
@@RaceCarFriends all 3. The limited with the nicer seats was the only one that felt worth it, but the price tag made me balk. $40k is BMW or Lexus territory
I have a VB WRX limited and for the 34k I paid it’s a great car. If I had the choice I’d take a Type R for the performance. I honestly just didn’t want to spend a lot of money for a car I won’t drive a lot. I have a work car I drive 90% of the time. Both are great though.

@@JoshDillon-lm3hw Agreed.
Yea this thing is not really matched for the price. It feels solidly made too.
Yup I agree it's really well made.
The cd player is top on my list lol
Hahaha same here!!!
Get you mods from AeroFlowDynamics not the dealer.
Will do I already traded out of this particular vehicle but I plan on getting the WRX TR soon.
Any remote start with a manual?
Sorry no that's not available as an option.

I just feel like they’re still too expensive for what they are.
What trim level did you test drive?
@@RaceCarFriends all 3. The limited with the nicer seats was the only one that felt worth it, but the price tag made me balk. $40k is BMW or Lexus territory
Yeah for me the Limited worked best and I got it at a good price too.
...see how easy it is to change headlight bulbs 😅
lolol
I'd take the Type R over the WRX though
Lol a lot of people will, I feel like for my lifestyle if I had to choose one, it would be the WRX because of the AWD and rear seat capacity.
I have a VB WRX limited and for the 34k I paid it’s a great car. If I had the choice I’d take a Type R for the performance. I honestly just didn’t want to spend a lot of money for a car I won’t drive a lot. I have a work car I drive 90% of the time. Both are great though.
@@blkstang4830 Make sense, the FL5 is 45k..not too sure about how much the dealers mark it up by though. That's a 15k difference from my VA WRX lol
@@RaceCarFriends If you need AWD...the WRX is definitely the right choice....the type R rear seat look pretty roomy too me. I wouldn't know because I'd be driving 100% of the time
Yup you really can't beat the value of the WRX in my opinion.
He works for subaru
LMAO I wish! Those Subaru checks would come in really handy right about now!

Welcome back brother!
There is nothing being shown here that makes me want to get this over every other car in it's class. I feel like this video was made by an employee of Subaru desperate to sell this vastly inferior performance sedan. Epic fail 😂
Lol the funny thing is that I've never been paid or sponsored by Subaru in anyway and in fact I think Subaru as a company may not be that fond of me cause I keep trading out of their vehicles just as I did with the vehicle in this video, but I still maintain that at it's price point these new VB WRX's are some of the best cars you can get right now.
Payed by subaru
LMAO I wish!
