      Honestly, ngl I've watched RotJ a ridiculous amount of times (it's one of my favorites) but that scene where R2 fires the lightsaber to Luke...I always thought R2 just had impeccable aim. It never occurred to me that he used the force to pull it to him (mostly because of how the scene was cut). TIL

    Modern "criticism" of pop culture often reminds me of a quote from Grant Morrison:
    “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

      It's even worse than that. Remember, something Birdman frequently sins Jeremy for is willfully leaving out or editing scenes to make it seem like his "sins" are well thought out criticisms of these movies that no one else notices, and he does it to give himself credibility as well as views and clout, while in reality he's flat out lying to his audience about what's in the movie in order to support his claims. That's manipulating facts to support baseless complaints and profiting off of it. That's like pouring water on the floor in a supermarket and laying down in it until an employee finds you, then claiming you slipped because the floor was wet and threatening to sue the store to get free stuff. What I'm saying is that Jeremy is practically committing fraud.

    • @tgs5725
      @tgs5725 2 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      Yeah it's actually a good way to get children comfortable in water to teach them to swim. You blow into their face which automatically causes them to hold their breath. Then you can safely go under water with them for a brief moment. It's very successful and used in many parent/child swimming lessons.

    • @bioplay3287
      @bioplay3287 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      While what you're saying is true, there's no reason to assume that the evolutionary biology of humans in the Star Wars galaxy is identical to that of humans on Earth, especially knowing there is an incredibly wide variety in the climates of habitable planets. If there have been many generations of humans living on Tatooine (of which 3 are shown just in the prequels and sequels), a planet where they are unlikely to come into contact with enough water to swim in, I would say it's pretty reasonable to assume the MDR has at least been repressed, if not vanished entirely. That being said, I am no biologist, so I welcome someone who knows more about the topic to correct me if I'm wrong.

    In order to type faster, we were given blindfolds and told to wear them until we could type the entirety of "A quick brown fox" without mistakes.
    This allows us to FEEL the keys, know instinctively where they are on the keyboard, which in turn allows us to read while typing, minimizing the mistakes made when typing fast and allowing for things like live dictations and script transference.

It was funny to watch once you had already seen the movie and noticed those things yourself, because it had funny commentary to go along with it. It wasn't nitpicking silly stuff or misunderstanding plots. It asked legitimate questions that the movie failed to answer. Also, the videos were typically less than ten minutes long. I would sometimes watch it instead of watching the actual movie, if I had no interest in seeing a film, but wanted to know a little about it (to get spoilers on Fantastic Beasts, for example). And that adolescent whine is exactly how 99.9999% of 18-20 years olds speak (including me, once upon a time). As for Kevin Smith, I haven't had much time for him since, like a total weasel, he embraced the ST and said he lied about liking the PT because it was "the only game in town" and, presumably, he wanted to look good in Lucasfilm's eyes. 18 to 20 is a fully grown adult. I love the original trilogy, but the tone of voice he used was toddler tier whining. Most children stop whining like that by the time they are ten. Teens have used a huffy tone when they don't want to do chores, and have been known to beg when they want something, but whining? No. Even my millennial children outgrew the whining stage by their teen years. It's a cringey scene, but the movies are still fantastic. They were a part of my childhood, and they were made a long time ago, so there will just be certain things about them that will not translate well to future generations anyway, because they will look hokey.

    Funny note about the escape pod scene...one of the things Disney did after taking over was try to fill in old gaps like this.
    The reason they didn't destroy the pod just to be safe is because it would lower their 'kill to shot' ratio. Rebel propaganda implied that Imperials can't shoot, so to prove otherwise they instituted the ratio. Only destroyed targets with lide forms aboard count as a kill, unmanned objects are marked as a miss.
    For the record, the guy who ordered the gunner to hold his fire got away with it, because he knew a girl in the data room who showed him how to bury the fuckup in so much paperwork that it wouldn't be worth investigating.

    Skippy the Jedi Droid (also known as R5-D4) was the only known Force Sensitive Droid. After a run-in with Obi-Wan and some hijinks, he was eventually captured by Jawas and taken by the Lars family. Sensing the power in Luke, Skippy fantasised about so many adventures that could be possible, until sensing something else. That the blue R2 unit lined up nearby had to go with him, for the galaxy as a whole to prosper. R5-D4 then took the decisive action of damaging himself with the Force, in order to make himself unbuyable. Not a convenience, a coincidence.

Luke just got into a situation where he had to kill multiple people, probably for the first time in his life, undergo a stressful infiltration mission, and watched his mentor and someone he cared deeply for die in front of him.
    Leia is not stupid, and could likely tell that Luke was not a seasoned fighter or seasoned anything. That kind of observance and emotional intelligence is a skill she has to have to actually be functional in the rebellion, and she also has multiple moments across many media showing her care for others. I mean her hatred of the injustices of the Empire is literally one of the reasons she is a Rebel. Of course she is gonna give a blanket to comfort someone who just experienced all of the above.

    Edit: now that I’m further along in the video, should’ve blasted them with 100 sins for sinning Yoda’s death scene speech!

    Actually, the Imperial-class star destroyers is VERY capable of destroying a planet also (I'll need some correction if a fleet is required__. The turbolaser cannons as I recall, has the same destructive power to a atomic bomb. This particular class, unlike its predecessor the Venator, is equipped to focus on firepower then transporting troops or cargo. That is why just facing a single Imperial-class star destroyer is a suicidal.

    There’s one thing I’ve always wondered. Why didn’t Obi Wan not show Luke that he could use the force to show the force was real?

      Force users can sense other force users. Like that scene where Darth Vader says he senses a presence. He didn't want to bring Darth Vader to him and luke

    22:50 id also like to add that military helicopters do this too, to avoid radar and line of sight threats, keeping the mountains as cover. Mountians block radio signal (flying above would give them more chance of contacting him), and the speed they were flying/clothing he wore means it would be hard to see him. Since theyre actively avoiding detection, this is more likley the reasoning

    Oh, also, "Jedi Mind Trick" being the same in both languages actually has a different explanation, though yours is a perfectly valid assumption. According to the person who worked on the languages for these films, Huttese is actually a creole - it resulted from multiple languages being spoken in the same space and them simplifying and merging together to make it easier for people who speak different languages to still be able to communicate enough basic concepts to function. That's why all of the huttese words for numbers are the same as galactic basic - for commerce to work, you need to be able communicate numbers, so Huttese incorporated galactic basic numbers because those are more broadly used across the galaxy.
    Neither explanation is really needed in the scene, but it's neat that they thought about it. This is how supplemental information should work in a story. You don't need to know this information to follow the story, but knowing it adds to your appreciation of the work.

    44:26 on a technical sense, before Rey and Kylo Luke trained Leia (I think) so you COULD technically count her as a Jedi, but even then this was before that happened so

    10:02 Okay for the people who actually didn't get it the first time like I did,
    Basically, Jeremy said that the trip to Alderaan was originally meaningless, but coincidentally the Death Star happened to be there. Even though the reason they went to Alderaan in the first place was _because_ the Death Star was there.

    One thing I'd like to point out about the whole "how did the emperor know they would get a shuttle and yada yada." He probably didn't know. It doesn't matter how they got there, he simply gave them the information and left it to them to find their own way there. The rebel alliance is more than capable enough to make it to the shield generator on their own. If they weren't then the new Death Star would have been finished and it wouldn't have mattered anyway. He simply would have found another way to lure Luke in. However he'd already forseen Luke come so didn't need another plan because he knew it would work. It's the same thing with most movies with intricate plans that just work out. They probably didn't work perfectly, it's simply that smart people will make contingencies so if something important doesn't happen they can immediately follow up with the next thing. Guy doesn't get on the train, you have a planted taxi to pick him up instead. Or that thing when people complain about them catching the train at the right time to avoid getting caught. They most likely knew the train would be there because trains run on schedules, just buy a minute or two going the long way and you've got a good chance of pulling off the trick. Every plan comes with risks, we just see them work out because then the movie wouldn't happen.
