Thanks for this video! Kind of insane to me that DNDBeyond hasn’t at least put out some kind of bandaid fix to do this considering it only takes a few minutes to do it with their already existing tools.
Lifesaving video right here 😩👌 I've been wanting to play Tabletop Builds' HexClock Sorcerer for a while, but didn't want to fiddle with a paper sheet so I could swap out spells. Now I can just use DnDBeyond as normal. Tyvm!
@@Cyb3rM1nd So helpful! And I realised I could use the same method to rename things. Now I've got renamed versions of Custom Lineage for each character that has it.
Thank you SOOOO much! I have been hoping to start using DnDbeyond for my next main character on a westmarches server. Mainly because I can then look at my character sheet when I'm not behind a laptop (we use Foundry). The fact that I couldn't have the proper spell list has always kept me from making the switch, but now I don't have to anymore!!! He's going to be a Shadarkai General, the kind of guy who led the forces of the Shadowfell and is now traveling the world in his retirement. He's got all the battlefield control, plus ways to support his troops. Both in terms of spells and moral (social skills). I am making my version of the God Mage by Treantmonkt (Clockwork Sorc X / Order Cleric 1).
Easy manual hack: just use the Customize option on the spell you want to change, and give it the name of the spell you're changing it to, with a "(see link!)" added to the name as a note to self. Then leave the URL for the new spell in Notes for Quick Enough Access (TM). OR just use paper sheets. (It's more immersive and makes remembering your stuff easier. Give it a try.)
This won't result in the spell showing the correct details in the Spells section or scaled values for upcasting. It's less work, sure, but doesn't match what people actually wanted and why I made the video. Also, "just use paper sheets" is not a helpful comment for tutorials on using a digital toolset.
I’m missing spells. I’m in campaigns where source books have been shared with me. What do I need to get my friends to do in order to to get spells added that are missing?
The most common reasons for material not showing up is not having the right toggle turned on in the Home tab of the Character Builder. Another reason is if the spell or item, etc, is not a free one and nobody has purchased it. Also, there is a glitch when the sharing is out of synch - the person who has enabled content sharing may need to disable, refresh, then re-enable it, to get the system to resynch. Hope this helps.
It is going to very much depend on when and where. Life is a bit weird right now. If you're having trouble finding an offline group, I would recommend Roll20 games or the LFG forum on D&D Beyond, for some online play. I think there's a reddit for it too and there's D&D Beyond discord server as well. For offline, if you have a local gaming shop or library you may be able to put a notice up to get a game going.
@@tonymaurice4157 Sorry you're experiencing that. Discord is usually very responsive. I'm not really sure what else to suggest, I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help in that.
2 years later, the fix is still this roundabout method for Divine Soul sorcerers.
Thanks for this video.
It's a bit mental they haven't added this feature officially on D&D Beyond. Hope this workaround helped in the meantime!
@@Cyb3rM1nd If anything, they are on their way to make DnD beyond even worse thanks to the removal of the ala carte purchaces

Thank you! And I agree. D&D Beyond's dev team seems to have gone so much slower lately.
Almost 3 years later still waiting
Thanks for making this, was really frustrating not knowing how to change the spells when it's a core feature of the subclass
I'm glad it was helpful! 🙂
I just had to do this for a player, its crazy how long ago you made this vid and it still super useful. Thanks for posting it.
Glad it helped!
Thank you very much for this, I've been wracking my brain for a week trying to figure out a way to swap out these spells.

You made that very simple to follow and I really appreciate you explaining why some fields were irrelevant.

I'll echo the others, well constructed demo and easy to follow, thanks for the video.
Thank you! :)
Dude thanks! I'm finally playing my first sorcerer and was confused why I couldn't swap my spells like the feature said. Your awesome sir!

Really thanks. Was already stuck on this for more than an hour.
You're welcome! :)
Good work and thank you! I never made a homebrew subclass so this never occurred to me! So clever!
Fantastic. This is exactly what I needed, and your video is straight to the point and clear.
Thanks, I'm glad you found it useful! 😊
Thanks for making this I'd been trying to get it to work for about half an hour and this video cleared it up in a few minuets.
No worries, glad it helped!
Thanks for creating this video. Nice homebrew fix. Keep up the good work. I grant you inspiration.
