@@timwilliams8343 realignment of conferences have been happening for decades. Texas has individually killed two conferences. The destruction of the big 12 didnt have to happen. This is a result of weak leadership. Leadership that was too busy golfing, or attending the "pat yourself on the back" award ceremonies, and the wine&cheese soirees to have a vision of what it would take to survive as a conference. They should have stuck to their guns with texas years ago to ensure that missouri, colorado and nebraska stayed. No way texas would've kept the network under those circumstances. Now texas will get more revenue without their network. Expansion is great for the sec, but it will not make college sports better. It has probably taken a turn for the worst.
@@livingforever6157 No they still would have gotten their Network deal, they were just going to go independent like Notre Dame. But OU stayed and that brought Texas back. Why wouldn’t we.. You can’t judge a program when it’s down. Not to long ago Arkansas was constantly in the top 25 and made it to number 3 in the nation playing in the SEC West. Same for MSU, South Carolina and Tennessee. Things don’t stay the same and last I checked a down Arkansas beat Texas in a bowl game a few years ago. The teams you named used to dealing with tough competition. You only thinking about Football as well. You better go check Arkansas in basketball, baseball, and Track….

I hate the Longhorns as i grew up in the swc, but i miss the rivalry. Oklahoma is so close to Arkansas university it makes 0 sense for us not to have on the schedule. Not worried about texas trying to ruin this conference because they cant. So yall come on over.
I think it’ll make for interesting matchups but will do away with the classic Sooners vs cowboys. Even though I’m an Sec fan that rivalry is one of my favs every year
Land Grant Universities?? You mean like Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Ohio State and Cal?! Pretty sure that fact doesn't exclude any school from a conference
@Cameron Davis that wasnt the point..my point was they wont be playing BAMA every game so it really doesnt matter how good their record is against them...OU could beat BAMA and STILL lose 4-5 games
If this does happen, they need to move Alabama and Auburn to the East, and have Texas and Oklahoma in the West. This way, you keep The Iron Bowl, Auburn vs Georgia, and Alabama vs Tennessee. You also get Auburn vs Florida, Alabama vs Florida, and Alabama vs Georgia every year. They could make LSU Alabama’s permanent West opponent to keep that rivalry. In the West, you would keep Texas vs Oklahoma, and you’d get Texas vs Arkansas and Texas vs Texas A&M back.
How about simply disbanding OSU and absorbing it into the OU system? The first thing that could be done is to raze the entire Stillwater campus and turn it into a lake with high end housing for elite OU officials and boosters.
Paul, acting like he doesn't know the red river shoot out, Paul, really. "OU and Texas play eachother during the season? Oh, I wouldn't know." Trying a little too hard to down play.

I would have preferred things had stayed that way, I miss the NU series but time just flows in one direction. By the way, UT IS just a obnoxious as advertised, I suspect there is enough clout to keep them in line, from an institutional point of view.
Why don't they just pick the top 20 teams from the last 10 years and put them in a conference together ? Then everyone else (those who don't spend enough $$$ to compete for National Titles) can play their own game. At the end of the season the top 20 can play a National Championship Tournament. That is how it goes every year anyway.

Don't get me wrong I'll ways support the Longhorns success, just my opinion this move will be bad in terms of trying to get to Cfp to win a championship! All I keep hearing is about the money side!!! So if that's all it's about then what's the point of competition!!!!!
when the group of 5 schools said lets have a 12 team play off everyone said ok now your going to have a power four or power 3 super conferances. Which will mean a 1/4 chance or a 1/3 chance to win the national champingship and the group of schools are still left out. carefull what you wish for.
This is a big stepping stone to the big 5 conferences coming together to make they own league eventually. I think this will help recruiting for mid tier teams because it will force kids to get in the league by any means necessary. Now the teams that don’t have enough money to get in will suffer badly. The low income teams who depend on tv deals and stadium draws will loose out on all that because the newly formed league will take everything.
It's all ridiculous. Create 16 8-team conferences. Play 7 conference games, 4 non-conf. Then pair up conferences to face #1-#8, to determine bragging rights for best conf-to-conf record, with seeding for the 16 winning #1 teams and go from there. Every team in every conference gets to play that head-to-head 'bowl type' game.
@@briankorth6763 they should do 4 team divisions. Everyone plays everyone in their division and then random teams out of division every year. NFL light.

Not sure where Texas will fit in, probably middle tier for now.
Oklahoma State simply despises the Sooners even more now. That's the answer. And, whatever conference the Cowboys end up in, assuming they aren't in the SEC, they will very likely not want to play non-conference games with the Sooners. Why would they?

Every team wants to be able to recruit and be Alabama. Saban didnt ask for the changes in the last 10 years but it seems to fall upon his shoulders. If the Tide keeps status, blame the other 130 teams, not one guy or program.
Paul says he doesn’t care what the Red River Rivalry game is called. Well you better care you bald goober cause it’s coming to your conference. Thangs ‘bout to git Western in the SEC.
Tramel is usually pretty well spoken and I think he made great points. He probably skipped over some of the “backstabbing” feel the other teams in the big 12 especially OSU have felt. It means big changes. I’m an OSU alum and OU and UT leaving the Big 12 impacts whole university cultures with this move which in turn impacts the local communities and state negatively which definitely hurts. For many of these university’s football is the dominant culture and OSU has a great program, but without some of the money OU brings they might not be able to maintain that financially. Not to mention the possibility of losing Bedlam. That would be a huge hit to the football culture in Oklahoma.
If it’s all about money, why is the Big Ten not a bigger consideration? The BIG generates more revenue per team than the SEC. I see OU and Texas fitting in well with the Big Ten.
If this happens and it appears so,they should move Auburn, Alabama,Ole Miss, and Mississippi state to the east. Move Missouri, Oklahoma, And Texas to the west. That would balance the region better.
A&M only won the Big 12 once in 15+ years. Left for the SEC and ranked high every year but can’t close the door there either. SEC makes them rate higher just by moving. Think what this will do for OU!

Big 12 is not competitive anymore. Oklahoma and Texas are big money programs so it only makes sense for them to join the SEC. We are about to see some rivalries created and old rivalries come back.
Aside from my pfp, does anyone else think that these moves being made (NIL and likely super conferences) is bad for CFB? I feel like the sport we all love had a distinction from the NFL and we’re becoming a watered down version of the pro’s.
Best part of this for OU and Texas? Not having the Fox guys call your games.

I think Berry Tramel's take is pretty on point.
Tramel is an ou shill and will paint over any chips in the sooner armor. Does anyone know about ou's financial situation being in trouble since even before COVID? This could have been a survival move all along and UT just saw the writing on the wall as far as Big 12 survival too.
It better be a done deal because the Big 12 is already dead.
Yeah it died a decade ago when everyone else left. They've just been playing with it's corpse since.
Yes, The Big 12's Failure to Expand, Killed Them! & They had plenty of opportunities To Do So!
@@livingforever6157 Amen bro.!
@@livingforever6157 No they still would have gotten their Network deal, they were just going to go independent like Notre Dame. But OU stayed and that brought Texas back.
They still would have gotten the Network, it's just that ESPN has to severely regret that decision. Because they've sucked the entire length of that deal. And do people really want to watch UT Lady Golf? Or whatever is broadcasted on that Network? The answer is no.
I like how one of the big concessions that Texas is apparently giving up to join the SEC is the Network, as if ESPN was going to renew that deal? LoL.
Having to substitute Mercer for Oklahoma or Texas must be pissing Nick Saban off.
You’re right, Mercer would put up a better game lmao.
As much as I hate Alabama, They and Nick Saban don’t give af who they play.
... yeah the last time Saban faced Oklahoma he looked pissed and Oklahoma looked whipped
Especially since he has to travel to Norman and Austin instead of playing them in his backyard every time.
Finebaum is such an unnecessarily snobby little troll. The Red River Rivalry is one of the top 3 games in every college football season. It's so deeply ingrained in to his SEC DNA to pretend not to care about anything outside of their world. Now that we're joining their world he still can't change his mindset.
Yeah I raised an eyebrow to that too - and that's coming from a lifelong Bama fan. Even I know about the RRR/RRS and its significance
College football isn't college football anymore. It's to ridiculous now. They hate the SEC so much but everybody wants to be in the SEC.

I believe you guys will likely get into the B1G with Kansas, and perhaps Oklahoma State and Kansas State. I hope the best for you though! You guys have really made a great splash the last few years. One the only teams I'll miss from the Big 12 👍🏻 That's probably not much consolation though
This will sound weird but I hope Iowa State goes to the acc.
Great, so in a couple years we'll be down to two conferences plus Clemson. How people think that's a good thing is beyond me

It’s more likely to be 4 Super Conferences.

As an OU fan, SOMETHING had to give. The Big 12 has been on life support since NU/CU/MU/aTm all left. The Big12 WAS a great conference but that was long ago. I would have preferred things had stayed that way, I miss the NU series but time just flows in one direction. By the way, UT IS just a obnoxious as advertised, I suspect there is enough clout to keep them in line, from an institutional point of view.
I don’t get why teams think they’ll get better by going to a tougher conference it could backfire very heavily and very fast

Texas and Oklahoma will bring in a ton of money to the SEC and the sec sharing revenue formula will make Texas and Oklahoma even richer. I hate the term but its a win win, but more importantly I see great rivalries coming out of these changes. Texas Texas - AM, Alabama - Auburn, Florida - Florida State, Texas- Oklahoma, Oklahoma- Missouri. LSU _ Texas AM, Bama- LSU each week could bring viewer ship up 10% to 20 % .
As a major Texas Longhorns fan, this is a terrible move for the school. No comment OU going but Longhorns, haven't beat OU in awhile now want to face Bama, GA, Florida etc on a regular!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they switch would they change the schedule
