Hello Brian, I'd like to thank you for all the wisdom you offer. I started watching your channel two weeks ago. I'm now two 400mm warbirds deep. I am loving the experience, although I felt like the 400mm spitfire was not the best introduction into RC planes. So, I received the areoscout S 2 1.1 RTF this afternoon. I think it will be terrific. I watched your areoscout video 3 times. Thanks again and happy flying!
Brian and Team.... Another fantastic video in support of the RC community. I appreciate your intellect in all things RC related, the aircraft you fly and review, the excellent narrative you provide, and just the overall tone of each of your reviews. As a UAV enthusiast who at some point may transition to fixed wing RC, the only thing I would ask is during your reviews if you could include the expected flight time and transmission distance for the transmitter being displayed with the aircraft, that would be great. Aside from that, I love the channel and again, appreciate the honesty and professionalism displayed during each of your reviews (Unboxing and flight).
Hi guys, have been following you for years have watched how your lives have changed as a family too. Learned so much from you in the early days and always wanted to fly as smoothly as you, still trying . I assume this is set mode 2 is it able to be changed to mode 1 ?? Take care guys love your new property watched you build it along the way. It’s weird but it feels a bit like we sort of know you guys. Take care all ,from the other side of the pond 🇬🇧
Thanks for the nice video all the time. FMS needs to release this plane as a 40A esc with a reverse throttle first and big wheels for beginners 😅 if that happens, this plane will be out of stock in no time!
I built one of these from a Reflex V3 and a FairRC Blue Jay, which is a licensed copy of the Ranger from the foam to the rx and tx, two days before they announced the V2 Ranger. Gyro definitely isn't as smooth as SAFE/AS3X and it has an unusual rudder input noticable when I perform vertical rolls. Turning off the gyro makes this go away. Barely enough rudder to knife edge and it wants to turn more than my Aeroscout. I prefer the Aeroscout for aerobatics, but this looks like a real plane, if that is something you care about, and I do find it easier to land smoothly. That spring loaded nosewheel won't punch through the foam on hard landings either. I found that pushing the batteries back helped a lot, and it flew well on the 2200mah batteries too, though I pushed them back far enough that they hung over the firewall hump in the bat compartment. I learned to fly on a Cessna 150 so I wanted a Ranger 1220, but there was no financially reasonable way to get it in Canada. Might as well buy an Apprentice or save with the Aeroscout. Blue Jay and a Reflex V3 came out a little cheaper than the Aeroscout and it comes with a battery.
Hi Brian! I hope to see you fly this ranger with floats in the water (if possible). I've seen many videos with floats but nobody did any nice skills/manoeuvres... you're the only one who can do nice performance skills on water
Happy sometime birthday to Andrew. With a small congratulations to you and the rest of your family including both girls and little Caleb. Wonderful job on the Aerodrome.
I sent an email to FMS just 2 weeks ago asking if they had any plans on releasing the Ranger 1220mm with the new Reflex V3. I received a reply a few days later that said they had no current plans on releasing a new version. So either customer service didn't have a clue or they weren't allowed to give out info on an upcoming new release. Sure glad I trusted my gut and decided to wait.
I've found for grass ops I took the rear mains and splay them out a little, making the rear sit lower than stock but makes it less likely to tip over. I love the new colorway though!
Ever since your flaps mod video on the V1, I've thought this plane is a good platform for someone that might really enjoy rc flying AND doing mods on their planes. Flaps, LEDs, even replacing that goofy nose spring once they started greasing landings. The Red is, by far, the best looking choice for V2. I might be biased BC I love the CarbonZ 150t. 😊 Also, Holy Crap! The Cherry is Finally moved!!! Can't wait to see where Brian crashes NOW! Finally, Happy Bday Andrew! What a good sport. He's really getting comfortable on camera. What a natural. Look out, Dad. He's gonna over shadow you soon. Mom is just praying Andrew doesn't start his own YT channel and ask the BEST in the Biz to be his camera crew, too 😂 Love the videos! Thanks for getting me hooked!
Hey Brian. As you know i bought the carbon cub ss. Now it flies. I didn't tho. Didn't want to crash it lol. Need to get my pilot lic. And mack insurance. So i just bought the P51 miss hellen to get me back in the swing of things. Good plane to do so
Dear Brian i have purchased PA 18 1700MM and a trainer 182. I have assembled both the plans after watching your videos of assembling. Thank you very much for excellent videos uploaded by you. I have flysky i6x radio and 6 channel flysky receiver installed in both the planes. It's working excellently. I am unable to setup the reverse thrust on any of the plane. Both have v2 stabilizer pre installed. Kindly guide me as how the thrust reverse can be operated.
Thrust Reverse is another YELLOW cable used on a separate channel. You need to watch the UNBOX, BUILD, RADIO SETUP video to get the whole scope of the project, with some consideration for the fact that you are using a different radio system, however that shouldn't make a huge difference. THIS IS A MAIDEN FLIGHT VIDEO, so look for the "UNBOX, BUILD, RADIO SETUP" for the PA-18 1700mm. Sometimes the PREDATOR ESC's don't come with the SEPARATE YELLOW WIRE that splits off the ESC servo lead, which is how you control the REVERSE FUNCTION. It's just another SIGNAL ONLY on a standard 3 wire servo plug...but when you use it, you can run it into any channel, then make the signal -100% for one condition, and +100% for the other - not sure how this will be shown in Flysky, but it's likely different than Spektrum.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you very much for swift response. Will try to plug in the yellow cable of ESC in a switch and configure it as per your text above. Thanks alot. I am obliged.
Great video! I still have a nice V1, but might have to spring for the V2 to check out the parts differences and compatability. I fully agree with your stance on simulators. I have the current version of Real Flight. It would be awesome if you made a video showing how to get the most educational use out of Real Flight and simulators in general. Just a thought from someone who has the software but doesn't use it much.
Having test flown this model yesterday, too much weight on the nosewheel seems to be a problem on grass. The main gear is too far behind the balance point, thus making it difficult to rotate on take-off and as you say it nearly always "takes a bow" on landing. So in the air it seems great but ground handling on grass is terrible.
yep, but since it's small, you can hand launch...only issue for me - I like wheels up, wheels down, especially in this platform. If you want the same, admittedly WAY better feel - just get to the 1800mm Ranger - it is AMAZING! - bprc.me/FMS_Ranger - you will never regret that one!!! And grass ops - oh yeah ;) I love my 1800mm, and you know I have a lot of planes to love!
Funny thing about this model. I ordered a replacement main wing. I received the foam wings and a set of stickers. No servos no struts no thumb screws for attaching for $58. At the same time I ordered a set of floats for a 1.5 beaver I ordered the floats for $19.99 a set of mounting hardware and screw set for roughly $30. First thing to arrive was the mounting hardware and screw set two days later I received the floats. Much to my surprise the floats included all the struts and screws and floats for $19 so I have extra parts. The beginner plane for $58 had two pieces of foam and stickers for $58 . Definitely made up my mind for future purchases buying the beaver 1.5 vrs a beginner plane paying $58 for nothing more than a piece of foam and stickers.
Have you considered doing a Most "Redest" episode? Line all your red planes up on the runway and have the family vote on the redest, Then fly them all and see which looks redest in the air. The throw them all in the soybean field or pond and vote again.... This sounded a lot better in my head but I am too lazy to delete this post.
Non related question but on a Spektrum NX8 is there a way to automatically add throttle when the thrust reverse switch is toggled on? I find it very difficult and awkward to actually give throttle immediately after landing.
I was just curious if you wouldn’t mind sharing what you use to film your flight videos. We are a family of RC pilots that enjoys filming our flights and we are curious what you use.
Sorry - gotta ask FMS to send it. They didn't want to have us review it, claiming, "....they didn't have a marketing plan..." - Obviously - LOL LOL LOL LOL (Seriously, that's what they told us - they sometimes make some very interesting choices...)
Brian how old is ANDREW he looks like a fine-looking boy I bet you he's a good boy tell him I said happy birthday and he done a good job flying that airplane

If you're restricted to grass then for $20.00 more, I feel, the RTF AeroScout from Horizon Hobby would make a much better choice for a beginner.
My thoughts exactly. I have found myself in this scenario. So, I bought the AeroScout.

Add a mix for throttle at whatever thrust level you want tied to the switch position for rev thrust.
It looks like the EFLIGHT Carbon Z
