***** yeah... that's 1 thing. and I also wanted Quarians to look more... different than humans, I've seen the fan art ( the one of two favourites on the right in the vid) and I would be happy if they looked like that. then I found the official tali face in ME3 and i was a little pissed tbh. Even more when i found out it's origins
Fans were clamouring for it apparently, specially after my fellow Talimancers got the romance option in ME2. BioWare using a fairly human-ish looking model was safe option but also considering people loved Tali's "cute" factor and general innocence, it kinda fit to make her a alien girl next door if you will. The videos "theory" about a goat like Quarian would definitely have had way more hate then the laziness from the developers using and modifying a stock image of a known model. And remember ME3 was the wrap-up (at least if BioWare doesn't change tack) of the Shepard arc....it kinda makes sense to wrap up everything fans had wanted. But, the stock image thing is one of the few flaws not the least of which is the botched endings options they gave. A Stock image is lazy but far preferabble to something that really would have caused some outrage, like making Tali totally unappealing. Even Turians have some appeal to them. And also if you recall Javik, or heard Javik comments on Quarians when he said "Even primative Quarians were considered attractive in my cycle." There had to be some sex appeal there....unless you think a goat like Tali is sexy?
Yeah and that lore is clearly bullshit because it is 100% disprovable by anyone who uses their eyes. WHich looks more like a human? The Asari who are in every way but the head 100% human or the Quarians who aren't human anywhere?
GeorgeMonet To be fair, if you looked at an unmasked Quarian (say, the cannon appearance of Tali as lazy that was) Then an Asari woman (say, Samara/Morinth) At first glance, the Quarians would be considered more human due to the fact they do have hair and human-like skin with the only thing diffirent being the ears (which could possibly be hidden due to the amount of hair cannon Tali has) The Asari would be considered more alien due to the obvious cool-color skin, head fringe and the somewhat scaly appearance of the skin. I do half agree with you due to the human-Asari skeletal structure being very similar (if not identical) and the the Asari face looking so human to the point human emotions could be portrayed with very little difficulty b u t, the Asari have been known to attract diffirent, if not, all races and since our protagonist in ALL Mass Effect games is human, it’s possible that the Asari could look diffirent to different races to make it easier to reproduce. That and the above mentioned obvious diffirences Quarians (females) have the feminine traits of human females cranked up to 11 with those m o t h e r l y hips and that they appear to be mammal/primate like in nature due to that they probably birth live young (albeit very big live young due to the wide thigh gap and the breasts means probably milk-fed) and that they evolved on an arid, dry world like the Savannah early humanity emerged from. The Asari, due to the scale-like skin and very Earth-like (EDIT: Central European like)climate of Thessia are (probably) Amphibious or Reptillian in evolution and (probably) evolved to look like humans because bipedal forms are highly successful (as shown with our race EDIT: and others) The Quarians are the most human from an evolutionary standpoint (probably) and the Asari from an appearance standpoint (probably) I have no clue why i decided to research this much for this one insignificant reply to a comment im probably not even going to remember in a week max.
@@swirlyskyshock1155 i think the Protheans meddled somehow in the evolution of younger species and that's why most galactic species (including humans) are in humanoid form, like the Protheans. Also Quarian females all the way , those hips don't lie lol
the quarian lore aspect of not knowing what they look like is idiotic, it has been how long 200 years? and nobody has any photos or video of the quarians? how many quarian have been killed on pilgrimages, just crack their helmet and take a look and a photo, I mean it's unthinkable to not be able to know how quarians look like
Don't forget how the Asari and Krogran live a lot longer than 200 hundred years. Plenty of them would definitely just remember what Quarians look like, could probably even draw a picture. Or, similar to what you said, photos galore from prior to them needing the suits in the first place. Wouldn't even need to kill or bone a Quarian to see what a generic Quarian looks like. I never even thought about it before, and now I'm kinda annoyed at this glaring oversight in the lore. There should be no mystery of what Quarians look like, just what this Quarian before you looks like.
Okeer remember what they look like. Ask Grunt about Okeer imprint on the races and he said quarian are turian are hard compared to the soft skin human, salarian or asari.
There are apparently quarian models in fornax, male and female. So I'm guessing xenophiles in the mass effect universe know very well what quarians look like.
My male characters went for Ashley or Liara before sometimes cheating with Miranda or Jack. I never went for Tali, maybe I should try it. I'm rather curious about the photo now. I always imagine Quarians resembled Turians. It's not just about the food they eat, their legs and hands look similar. Grunt also said Quarians were tough like Turians and Humans were soft like Asari and Salarians. How about those Quarrens in Star Wars! It's spelled different, but it sure sounds the same
Personally, I tried to go for Liara on a second play through of the series, cheated on her with Tali, and then just repeated my first play through of the series and stuck with Tali. I can't get enough of her, she's just a really well written character. So, I'd give Tali a shot if I were you.
All right, on my next male character I'll try out the Tali romance. I'll probably cheat on Ashley, she basically gives you a reason to move on in Mass Effect 2 with all that mean stuff she said on Horizon. Maybe I'll bring them together on that Geth ship where you reunite with Legion, for I heard the dialogue can be funny.
Don't much care what she looks like. It's her attitude and intelligence that made her attractive in the first place. And Ms. Sroka's sexy voice, of course.
as a trekkie i have to point out that Star Trek has a whole story that explains why all the aliens are humanoid in appearance basically the first race to reach the Space age in ST found out it was the only race in the milkyway, their empire spanned the entire thing and they never found any1 else but then they lost the ability to reproduce and instead of clinging to life thru cloning they decided to seed life bearing planets with parts of their genetic code so that many different species would one day evolve, and make the galaxy a much more interesting place
That was such a throwaway episode as well I'm not surprised that most people don't remember it. It had this big message but the reaction from the series was like "Meh. Cool story, moving on".
"Doesn't have a place in modern sci-fi..." "Well actually, Starg--" "Unless it's Stargate, where it's explained." 👀 This man actually knew about Stargate's lore
mass effect three was screwed up because of interference from EA. i blame EA for everything wrong with mass effect 3 and everything good about it is because of bioware being awesome. i know thats not fair but screw EA.
Trust me, EVERYONE blames EA for EVERYTHING. If they so much as take a passing glance at a game and it goes bad, people blame EA. They seriously ruin a lot of games just by rushing production.
It's the same for a couple of the big companies, EA and Activision being the worst offenders. My question is why show us a picture of a Quarian at all if they weren't going to do it justice? I almost have to wonder if, perhaps, this was Bioware's way of telling the fans they weren't responsible for some of the questionable choices with ME3. Since the picture of Tali stands out as extraordinarily lazy work for a series of games that crafted one of the most elaborate and thought out worlds in gaming.
Well, maybr because they don't understand the concept of content over income? I mean, just to stick to the ME series, they could have done 2 things. 1) make the game more complex, possibly turning down a lot of lazy people who don't want to play ME 1 and 2, 2) make the game a generic tps with light rpg elements. this will bring more profit on the short. On the long run, it makes no difference, since games generatw approximately the same amount of money regardless of initial interest. The number of people buying it won't change much. They wanted to make fast big money and run. And in the meantime they fucked up a lot of things. The same thing happened to the battlefront title: why make a compelling, interesting game when you can just use the frostbite engine to make nice sceneries? I mean, gameplay is nice, but you know what is nicer? 4K ultra screenshots with pretty trees and canyons!
I always Imagined quarians as if they were space elves. Smart, fast agile, good dancers, experts in technology and art and not very tanky. Especially since Javik said even in his cycle they were considered hot.
But I mean, that would have been much more awesome. Hey, gotta deal with the realities of space sometime, right? Maybe you actually fell in love with her personality and appearances don't matter... Right?
That's a crazily shallow statement. Fans didn't romance her for her looks. She could of looked like anything and they would of been fine with it, but the fact that most fans feel they never got to see the 'Real' Tali and instead were shown some corporate cop-out to keep things safe and lazy just tarnished the entire experience.
Never understood why people made such a big deal about this. It seems highly likely to me that aliens could look relatively similar to humans, especially if they are humanoid. Patterns in nature repeat all the time. Case in point lagomorphs and rodents. Very different mammals with very similar features.
And to put that in perspective in game we always see asari as very human like in features with skin color and hair/scalp being the main differences though in the second game their is a conversation that gives credit to the theory that asari look different based on the race that views them, go to the bar on illium to find this in-game discusion in ME2
Yea, but this is on our world. We have zero data about any alien species of any other world. For all we know, species of other worlds could follow complete different evolutionary paths than ours due to their living conditions. Theories concerning space are proven wrong all the time because we've never explore it and only have observational data. Also from a artistic standpoint. It's completely lazy to just get a human and throw a slap of paint on them and say "Here's a alien!" Why not call black and brown people aliens as well while you at it??? Especially from Mass Effect where we had so many different distinct alien species who were more than just human with a few mutations.
sombodi200 because we only have our own planet as an example we must assume that data gathered here will apply to other life forms. In other words until we see evidence that convergent evolution does not apply we can assume that it does or could. Also few mutations? Head tentacles, the ability to reproduce through mental link and at will? Different teeth, number of digits, muscle mass? Maybe these are small to you, but to a biologist these would be incredibly significant. Even a red or blue person with all other features being the same as humans would be significant. Why is their skin pigment so different? Is it an adaptation to a certain environment? Is it a variant of melatonin or another substance all together? Also from the art standpoint they gave us things like the elkor, hanar, leviathans, krogan and others that are nothing like humans. I think people can cut them slack on the asari and quarians.
Actually, Star Trek also has an in-universe explanation as to why most species are humanoid. It's in the episode "The Case" of TNG. Basically: Panspermia of an ancestor race.
you can see her face pretty much in mass effect 1 and 2 and you can see that her face is human with purplish skin and her eyes are white. none of these concepts look anything like what she should and would look like going by her face under the mask.
i always thought the same thing. I'm not a massive fan or anything, but the one thing i remembered about her from when i actually played the old games was that what i could make out of her face seemed human-like to me.
well you are free to believe what her face look like if u agree with indoctrinated bioware thats ok, making another race with human face just dont add up because they are closer to turian and krogan than to human, i noticed legs and arms much more turianish, also couple with turian and quarian do can have kids indeed but human and quarian cant (i cri avrytim ;-;)
You can clearly see through Tali's visor if the lighting is good in all the games. Quarians just look like humans with shiny black eyes and probably different coloured skin. They were *always* like that. Anyone who didn't notice that apparently didn't have Tali along on any of their missions in Mass Effect 1. There are several instances where tali turns her head in ME1 and when the light is behind her you can clearly see that she has a humanlike face.
It's literally just a nose man. That and the model they used was probably a generic human model because they never planned on revealing the face at the time.
Obsidian Black! like a Drow. maybe give them a sheen of a color variant hue, as described of female drow to Drizzt's perspective by "R.A. Salvator in "Homeland". They are like Drow except maybe thier heads are coned, smooth like an egg, not like asari's glls! and they have more in the back rather than the top being they are individualist, not group-oriented workers like us Cro-Mag humans.
Thank you fucking hell even in the lore they are the closest to human some one else said it too but I remember seeing tali in me 1 and her looking human
I know it was disappointing, but I don't mind the Quarians being like that at all. They were already the sexiest species because of that suit and their accent to me. Now, with the reveal (lazy or not), they became officially the most beautiful species in the galaxy.
If you pay attention to the synthesis ending theres a still photo during edis monologue with a quarian and geth there and the quarians visor part is off, looks like a purple human, the extended cut that is
The Mass Effect series was a breakthrough in both sci-fi roleplaying AND shooters. It was revolutionary, and it's story stuck with the player. It had some of the most vivid characters and creative gameplay ever... ...And they used a fucking stock photo they ripped right off google images for one of their most beloved characters...
I am happy how Quarians look. Even the Promethian that you meet in ME3 said that even in there time Quraians where beatuiful even if they where underdevelopt.
I would've imagined them as pale like how cave creatures lose pigmentation. Maybe take some inspiration from Species with the HR Giger style with translucent skin, dreadlock tentacles in place of hair, etc. Also thinking of the android from Ex Machina with her partially transparent "shell" torso and carbon fiber-skinned extremities. When you try to reshape basic human anatomy you risk entering the uncanny valley, so those body parts might be better as non-mammalian. So her hands and lower legs would be skinned differently. Make them reptilian, metallic, or scaled like fish skin. Heck, facet them like gemstones, that'd be pretty cool. I'd also give her straight up black eyes to contrast the lighter tints of her skin.
I agree making them just humans with different color skin was a dissapointment and lazy as hell. Besides we already had a race like that, the asari. Did we really need another one?
man im so happy i found your channel you answer the questions that i never even thought of and light a new light on until recently ignored topics thank you
+Taureor Tali's face was humanlike already in Mass Effect 1... Have you even played mass effect? Sometimes the lighting revealed she had a clear nose and sometimes the camera would clip through her visor during gameplay.
+Joshua Blachier smg.photobucket.com/user/johnny_nocturnal/media/Mass%20Effect/tali1.jpg.html I wouldn't call it "last minute" if she already looked like a human in Mass Effect 1.
Beefcake! Yeah, I like the two concepts he pitched before his own which was just... Odd imo. Going with a goat and then complaining how Tali was basically human was just hypocritical as heck.
Battletoad a resource that we weren't even supposed to see, and was probably just a placeholder. Yeah, real convincing there, especially since she doesn't even 'look' like her final version in the photograph.
“Sterile ship conditions” ?Wasn’t it mentioned in ME2 that they never had an immune system, because they lived in symbiosis with their homeworld’s ecosystem?
A, there is far less info on that than I expected. I mean this book series: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_Saga - I strongly recommend them. There is (SPOILERS) an alien species that is basically one entity. Multiple specimen are connected by nerve tentacles and create a single mind. If they are separated, they become two. It's all fun and games until they discover electronic communication and can connect more specimen together. The whole planet of those things is one single mind and with radio it can send out ships while maintaining control... read the books, they are among the best Sci-fi I've ever read :)
Very nice video man! I always imagined the quarians closer in look to the geth, due to the facts that we humans try to make our robots look similar to us while avoiding the "uncanny valley". And since they copied their physical appearance to the rest of the geth body why not to the head and face too? Now obviously they can't be completely similar due to the geth only having one eye and we know Quarians have two. But for example the "cheek" guards that the geth have coming down on the side of their face is moving when they speak and it is also similar to the design on the quarian helmets, the helmets are beefier there so perhaps it's designed to protect something. My thought was horizontal closing mandibles like insects (I know there were no insects on Rannoch, just the look) Also with their planet being quite barren other than around their coastal areas and assuming they are of mammalian type i thought of them covered in tight short fur like seals or the capybara(that would give a connection the the few toes and fingers too). Making them very comfortable in and near the water. (Rannoch only has slightly less water coverage than Earth but that is still at least half the planet covered in water and the orbital photo we have shows many islands and peninsulas making the coastlines of Rannoch enormously long)
Quarians and Turians have similar physiologies. I would expect them to look far less humanoid, and maybe like a softer, more human-like, Turian. That would make sense. Probably 5:05 is the best concept art for what they should look like IMO.
I like that theory, since they are dextro-protein life form too and share some other traits. And Krogans have similar legs aswell and don't look like horses or goats either. My favourite design is 5:38, though, since I saw that artwork ages ago.
Joshua McQuitty I think 5:22 had the best concepts. the left image seems realistic... a creature inside a suit, lacking pigment due to sustained shielding and the bresthing tubes and the nutrient straw/mic all seem like welll thought out concepts. and the right image, as he said, is simply beautiful...it shares Turian physiology as befits the amino dextro similiarities mentioned in the lore.
4:56 I think that's my favorite. the way that their skin is almost metallic, and having no pupils but not being black like the salarian's eyes. also because I always felt that under the suits quarians were these beautiful beings trapped inside essentially prisons of their own makings, unable to be seen by the world, and then judged by their suits.
4:56 I like this one. This is pretty much the face I imagined in my head, it fits with the look of the mask, and I think it matches her voice perfectly
I didnt like the picture ordeal. but I wasnt upset at the design of the quarians, I thought that it was fitting that the mysterious race turned out to be surprisingly human
Tghe thing with Tali is that a lot of people fell in love with her not just because of her body (those gigantic hips and thighs) but also her adorable nature. If they made her look too alien, then people might not care about her as much.
I like the pale Kaminoan look presented though, I don't like aliens looking too much like humans especially in a franchise with such cool inhuman designs like the Krogan and Turians
I actually really like your theory. Not on an aesthetic wavelength, but on a scientific one, it's quite brilliant. I would suggest a deer-like or antelope-like appearance, as a middle ground.
What I don't get about this: Why goats? Nearly every animal that walks on four legs has digitigrade legs; meaning the walk on their toes. From what I remember the Quarians don't have hooves, so the comparison with goats is not logical. Comparing them to cats, dogs or rodents would be more logical. Your entire comparison doesn't make sense.
6:19 I'm pretty sure Quarians just have bowed in lower legs, and don't actually have a digitigrade stance like you suggest. All of the races that do don't have motion in all their joints because of the limitations of the models, but if you look at the Salarians and Krogan, you can see how their digitigrade stance is implied through how jaggedly the legs are curved. The lower leg of a Quarian however is a smooth curve, and they all wear clothing that would severely hinder the motion of a third leg joint if there was one. still a better idea than what they actually gave us though lol.
I loved how they did Tali... resourceful and clever... you expect to see a monster under there, and you find the most human-looking race next to humans themselves. It's perfect.
I am liking and subscribing specifically because of mentioning my favorite author and my favorite series of books ever Peter f. Hamilton and Pandora Star. the fact you referenced the book that made me love sci-fi and literally the main reason why Mass Effect is one of my favorite games you deserve a gold star!
I can understand people being upset about the laziness of the reveal and the design, but are some people really so butthurt about it that they REFUSE to believe that that's what they look like? Granted, Bioware could always change what they look like in later games, like what they did with Qunari and Genlocks in Dragon Age, and some of the designs in this video would be great, like the one on the right at 5:23, but that still doesn't change the fact that, unless they do that, THIS is what Quarians look like, whether people like it or not. And frankly, I liked that picture. I thought it was beautiful. Besides, what about Asari? Their basically just blue women with head fringes instead of hair. They don't even have abnormal limbs, like different numbered fingers, or the horse/goat-like legs. I actually think the Quarians' design is more unique.
an indian chick with crap editing will never be what tali looks like to me. The first picture in the tumbnail fits how she'd look much better. How the hell would Tali even be tan with being in a suit her whole life...
She's not tanned in the photo, she's pale. And again, whether you accept it or not, this is canon. Also again, there's a chance they might change the Quarians' design in Andromeda, like they changed the Qunari and the Genlocks, so if you really hate it that much, pray that that's what they do, or better yet, write a letter. Until then, you can always just blame EA. So much of both Mass Effect and Dragon Age were diminished or even ruined because of EA greedily rushing Bioware. Tali's photo was probably one of them.
Yeah, and if I remember correctly, Bioware had been setting them up to be very humanoid in appearance prior to the third game. I really liked the Quarians and read a lot of their codec entries in the first and second games, and I expected them to be one of the most human-looking aliens we'd encountered. On the other hand, it is kinda disappointing that they basically just made Tali look in every way human except for a few non-human features that weren't hidden by her suit. They could have jazzed it up a lot more.
Yeah, I remember a character in one of the earlier games that had seen a Quarian said they basically looked like humans. Could they have jazzed it up? Maybe. Could they do so in Andromeda? Maybe. Either way, I'm fine with the as they are now. Just show us an actual maskless Quarian next time, and not a photo, dammit. Better yet, give us another Quarian LI and make the reveal part of the love scene.
AlphaXTitania I hope they add a couple changes. All I mean by "jazz it up" is just do something more than the bare minimum. All they did to that picture was modify Tali's eyes and hands, the two non-human characteristics we could see through the suit, and add a few pretty lines. This insanely lazy design being cannon is kinda annoying, despite the fact that they were previously established to be very similar to humans. But the worst part of the reveal was definitely that it was just a quick stock image. I'm sure I'd come to be on board with the design if they give us some time with a well flushed out, maskless Quarian in Andromeda.
My biggest problem with the design is that she looks too healthy. Aren't the Quarians supposed to have no immune system, and have to confine themselves in a suit, on a space ship, in deep space? How in the hell can she have such long luxurious hair and perfect skin when she's been on the flotilla most of her life and has had little to no direct contact to the sun? Honestly if they wanted a more human approach they should have gone with the image on the left here: 5:27 or even the one in the middle. Both give off that look of a race confined to dark places (ships) similar to the Falmer in skyrim (not exactly but you get the idea) and even if they wanted to do the whole "beautiful ending for tali" thing showing us a picture like the one on the left would have work just as fine. Cause it shows us that Tali (as well as her race) is healing, and would have made for a beautiful and inspiring image. Kind of like seeing a cancer survivor get better. That's just my opinion though.
not quite true with the no immune systems. in game it is said that it was originally "Eco-symbiotic", less likely to fight an infection than to simply adapt to this due to the fact that there was no insect life on their home-world. the exile just exasperated it. the good hair/skin would be because without being exposed to the usual contaminants (pollution, UV etc) it would reduce the effects of aging, this is also why there is no biotics among them as that requires in-utero contamination to Element zero. however the idea that tali is healing over time like a cancer survivor is a very good one due to the fact they would no longer NEED to use the immune boosting cybernetics or the environmental suits (but might still use them as it did play a part of their society).
I don't think people had an issue that Quarians are a greyish or purple human-like species. I think people took issue that Bioware lazily just photoshopped a stock photo of a female and tinted her skin purple and gave her three fingers, and then tried to pass that half-assed attempt as a reveal of Tali's face.
No offence but this is just stupid. While I agree that the photoshop photo was lazy it was also clear from the start that they would go with that look. In Mass Effect 1 you could in some chases while moving the camera look inside her mask and she pretty much looked like that, just no hair. So the fact that you personally like it or not is of no importance...
7:50 And here I'd hoped he wouldn't show that picture. That f%&king picture gives me nightmares. I'd take lazy stock photo Tali over this monstrous abomination. Quarians are like the elves of Mass Effect, they got to be beautiful creatures under those suits. I couldn't accept anything else.
I didn't really mind the reveal. I didn't fall in love with her appearance, I fell in love with her personality. I only ever really looked at the picture once and let it gather dust for the rest of the game. Why look at a picture I don't need when I can just talk to her, or load up my ME2 save and just cuddle in bed for a few minutes.
Because asari always look similar to the species of the person looking at it. Turians see them like Turians. Salarians think they look just like them. Same with Krogans. It's some sort of mind trick hypnosis shit.
It was during an in-game conversation between npcs in ME2 on that planet where you find Liara. Basically, 3 guys were out for a drink and watching an Asari dancer and they all think she looks like their own respective species.
Fans disagree, pfff. Game developer made this choice, it's their universe, they create the story and the characters. If you don't like what they do go make your own game where quarians will look different.
no he is right Bioware made a choice, you can dislike it but it's cannon and complaining about it will not change the fact that he is right, you want something different make your own.
+SolarWindsRider _"If you don't like what they do go make your own game where quarians will look different."_ When someone's argument uses "it's art, you can't say it's shit" and then ignorantly and unknowingly suggests theft of intellectual property to "do it better yourself," all that tells me is that person is dumber than a box of rocks.
Taureor 221K subscribers (at 4:46 ) Okay....................... now that really really really creepy and unsettling image looks more and more like something truly terrifying from the popular video game "Among Us".
Quarians don't stand on their toes. I wish they did, it would make more sense, but they actually just have legs similar to our own but with bent tibia and fibula. Also my own hypothesis as to what Quarians evolved from is that they evolved from an animal that is similar to feline-ape. Rannoch is a fairly arid world so in my mind it would make sense. Our evolutionary ancestors evolved from tree climbing apes into bipedals. Since Rannoch has less rainforests and dense vegetation, and Quarians are omnivores, it would make sense in my mind that they would have evolved from a more feline animals, such as the big cats of the Serengeti on earth.
how do they not stand on their toes? Count the joints, they have one more than we do before the leg reaches the ground. If you doubt the existence of joints there, watch a quarian walk animation
+Taureor What do you mean count the joints? Unless there's been official artwork of a Quarian's skeleton released I doubt anyone's actually counted the joints. Quarians do not stand on their toes. They just don't. I wish they did. It would be a better character design then bowed tibia and fibula, which is how it's described in canon. pre09.deviantart.net/0dd7/th/pre/i/2012/158/2/b/mass_effect_3__female_quarian_reference_by_troodon80-d52mtuj.jpg pre03.deviantart.net/101f/th/pre/i/2012/002/5/b/mass_effect_2__turian_blue_suns_mercenary_ref_by_troodon80-d4l142z.jpg Look at those two images. You can see that the turian walks with just the ball of his foot and his heel is elevated. The quarian on the other hand walks with both the ball and the heel on the floor. Turians and other species stand on their toes, we can see them doing it in every instance. "[Quarian] lower legs are bowed backwards significantly, compared to asari or humans". Their legs are compared to humans and asari because, apart from their toes and weirdly shapes tibia and fibula, they are exactly the same. I wish it were otherwise and I'm a fan of them being described as digitigrade rather than bowed but as far as bioware is concerned, bowed is what they are.
I'm not ready to commit an hour or 2 to additional research right now, but if you were right, what would be the purpose of separation between the back plate of the "boot" part of the suit and the leg, if not to let it move a bit in the joint? I mean the plate right above the red line in this image masseffect.kikaimegami.com/Tali/possibleleganatomy.png Also having the leg just curl like that would be impractical from the evolutionary standpoint, it is weaker than a straight one would be, are there any animals with curved bones in their legs? Slight curves, yes, but not to that degree. It would put great pressure on such a bone and make the leg very brittle
Taureor Your first point of the boot is based on speculation and no actual evidence. As to your second point... you are aware that this is science fiction are you not? Everything you see in the mass effect universe is designed by an artist and what they think "looks cool". I agree it's a bad design choice and I wouldn't be surprised if they reton it in the future but everyone that argues that quarian legs are currently digitigrade, rather arrogantly argues the point as fact rather than a theory. Nowhere has it been said in the series or any expanded material that quarians have digitigrade legs, only "bowed backwards" and when bones are described as "bowed" it means that they are bent at a curve. As well as their legs being described as bowed they are also compared to Asari and Human legs because the only difference, bar the number of toes, is that their calves are bent. You used the point of "are there any animals with curved bones in their legs", if you want to use that as a point to your argument then it's also a point against your own view. Putting aside what you and I believe to be true, the reality that neither of us can dispute is that quarians have at least got plantigrade feet otherwise they've got the strangest lunges and toe mound I've ever seen. In the image I sent you previously, you can see that the quarian foot has at least got toe mounds, like us, arches, like us, and a heel, like us. All those features are typical of plantigrade legs. Again if our own planet's evolutionary traits are anything to go by, and by your view they are, then a quarians legs must be plantigrade otherwise it is the only example ever of a living organism that has two heels in one leg. If it's possible to imagine quarians with two heels then it is also possible to imagine them with bowed bones.
I disagree with your last statements about what the quarian foot consists of. I might be understanding your argument wrong, but what you are describing as a second heel is actually the bit (don't know the english terminology) a human stands on in this picture (left leg of course) images.medicinenet.com/images/featured/detail_foot.jpg and the quarian toes are just much longer than human. A further argument to support my position is the tiny quarian toe on the side - it seems to be consistent with my view on this, if I were wrong, it would mean the actual foot is what, 5-10cm long? This, I think, would defeat the purpose of having the foot at all. In short, I'm sticking with my interpretation (which is this: 68.media.tumblr.com/02448ff77ac65964787ed7563633da87/tumblr_ni5apurMsS1rorlp3o1_1280.jpg ), I believe my position to be logical and consistent with all we know about the quarians and general knowledge about animal anatomy BUT I have no definite in-universe proof to disprove your interpretation. I think we've exhausted the subject, but I enjoyed this discussion. Civil and reasonable. Thanks.
Great video, but i think you are missing a piece, i once read on the wiki that the quarian immune system took so little time (around 200 years, which is 4-5 generations) because most of their defenses came from a symbiotic relationship with the planet's flora, given the fact that no insects evolved on Ranoch (lucky them) so i think that would factor in as well, i liked the design that was to the right because those crests seemed almost as vegetation, though the actual facial features are still a bit too human for what would expect from aliens who evolved on such different environment. Im just nerding out though, i miss my mass effect, no need to pay me any mind.
Think about this: Salarians, Asari, Volus, Elcor and Humans (and just about every animal on earth XD) are all Levo amino acid.. does that mean Humans, Volus and Elcor look similiar? No, of course not.. Now *why apply that kind of logic to Turians and Quarians...* Every time I see someone say "Turians and Quarians are related because they can eat the same food" makes me want to puke, by that logic, humans should be frequently dating elcor.. or, to put it in today's world's perspective, just because I can eat the same meat as my cat doesn't mean I should fuck it. (Sorry if this looks offensive or something, I don't intent to throw anyone down ^^ have a great day fellow mass effect geeks :D)
Wasn't their immunity systems tied to their homeworlds biosphere? As in they had a very close symbiosis with plant life on the planet and when they had to leave the planet they had to wear suits to boost their weakened immunity systems? Isn't THAT the reason they could not colonize other world even if they wanted/needed?
Still, their dependancy on their homeworlds flora is a big factor why they cannot just go around and colonize anything else for the time being. I will admit though that going into sterile fleet just plumeted their immunity systems to the brink of funtionality.
To further illustrate how closely tied to Rannoch the Quarians are, I believe Tali mentions in Mass Effect 3, after you reclaim Rannoch and broker peace between the Geth and the Quarians, that without the assistance of the Geth, it would take the Quarians nearly 600 years to re-acclimate to their own home planet, whereas with the Geth, it would only take about 60 years or so (of course this rendered moot by basically all three endings, but that's besides the point). I think in several places it's even mentioned that the Quarians have found perspective worlds to settle before but were usually deemed unsuitable because their immune systems just not would be able to adapt quickly enough to make it worthwhile.
I haven't put much thought in the geometry, sorta accepting the mostly humanoid suggestion by the devs (a few differences in the face and other spots, though); but regarding biology, my headcanon is their symbiotic abilities play a significant role in their appearance and function. For a healthy Quarian, their skin is covered in various carpets of mossy, glittery, metallic, iridescent, plastic etc, looking biofilms, at least as resistant and functional as human skin, forming fractals with different colors and shapes for each individual, providing a great way for their legendary beauty to manifest (actually, at 01:30 is a good example of a possible look of their skin, I'm surprised someone did that; the feet are not what I picture them as, though); their tongues are actually replaced by a colony of fungi with hair-like tendrils that can move and behave like a regular tongue appearing to be a solid mass, but also filters what they eat, selecting only beneficial microorganisms to be absorbed and killing the ones that wouldn't work with their body, and it stimulates the nerves that report taste at the base; their eyes are bioluminescent, with varying off white hues, and only the pupil is visible, they actually got bioluminescent microorganisms living inside their eyeballs, the extra light pushing the cells in their retina into the range of illumination where they start to get triggered. There is still a lot to be filled with this premise though. Now for a Quarian that hasn't had it's body flora properly taken care off, the worse case that still doesn't imply death; their skin is like a burn victim's, and can't handle light very well (sunburned with even regular lighting conditions), explaining their opaque visors), tongue a bit lumpy and not very easy to control, eyes look a bit opaque and they don't see well in normal lighting conditions (possibly requiring special artificial lighting inside the mask to make their eyes work). Regarding the ones we've seen in the game, I pictured them being at varying stages of health, some types of microorganisms completely absent, and a few less than ideal ones infecting them in a non-lethal manner.
I feel that you forgot that all the evidence state that they are beautiful and always were, even in Javik's time. So that is a factor of their appearance that was neglected here.
According to the wiki/codex, Quarian facial features are the closest to a humans facial features and the same with their bodies. And given with the informations from the codex/wiki, I imagined them to be simular to the stock photo, but with elf-like ears.
The story explained it in Star Trek as well. There is also room for that lore in MassEffect. Tali's reveal was not received all that badly. We need to stop taking a few butthurts who are ofc being louder than everyone else, as the excepted opinion or popular opinion.
The reason it was received badly at all was due to people having to wait 2 games (for some even 3 despite not being able to "romance" her in the 1st game) to finally see what their romance looked like only to find a half assed stock image. The sheer laziness is infuriating. Sure lore wise it would make some sense for the Quarians to look human-like as they were even described as being the closest to humans in terms of appearance, but a barely photoshopped stock photo? Hell, half of it is covered by a massive lens flare lmao. Sorry for wall o text.
On that I can agree.. They were meant to be very similar to humans in almost every aspect, with some exceptions of course, like the opposite amino structure, the "dog-legs" and such features.. Also, the Quarians had a wide range of skin tones, all the way from pale gray to purple. The most defining factor was the quarian's weak immune systems. As a bonus: In the Synthesis ending, you get to see an unmasked quarian
wait wait wait... Quarians are are purple shaded humans with some defects...ppl don't like but asari are BLUE shaded humans... i get that asari's don't REALLY look like that. but no offence. they look like a blue shadded HUMAN female no matter what race you pick.
The theory on asari is that they look the way you perceive most attractive. which is why taurians feel they look like them, salarians think they look like them and so on and so forth.
Quarian immune systems have always been relatively weak, as pathogenic microbes were comparatively rare in their homeworld's biosphere. Furthermore, what few viruses and other microbes were native to their homeworld were often at least partly beneficial to them, giving them a symbiotic relationship with their environment. kinda failed to mention that
its different dude ... there's a difference between an alien whose face was known the whole series , and an alien whose face was always covered , and then seeing how lazy the reveal was , literally a 2-3 minutes photoshop -.-
The Asari appearance may not even be what the actually look like.... Just what humans perceive them to look like. As there is a scene in one of the bars where salarian, turian and others were commenting about how they look to their species. Salarian said they look more Salarian; Turian more like them, etc etc
In ME 2, you can ask Grunt about Okeer's imprint on the races. Human, salarian and asari are soft. Quarian and turian, you have to work the blade a little. And since quarian also share similarities with turian in their food... we can assume they have bony skins too.
My problem with it was they made it very hard to see what it was. To me It looked like a blurry silhouette with the glare of the sun blocking out all the features, not to mention that it was a picture in the hand of my character and not a close up image on my screen. Hell I thought I could see here face better through the damn purple visor than I could in that crappy photo. Honestly until I saw the photo they used in this video I have not had a chance to see the image clearly. Looking back on it now and knowing that it was a slightly altered version of a stock photo of a model it makes sense why Bioware tried to obscure the image. They didn't want us to notice their lazy cop out.
They never lost their immune system because of being in a sterile environment. The game showed at the end it was because on their planet everything is symbiotic. Leaving it they leave that symbiosis and apparently can't replicate it so that is what lowers their immune system which is why they need the suits a sterile environment.
Convergent Evolution Theory. I'm totally fine with her canon look. If i wanted something ugly to fuck, i would have hooked up with Grunt or sth. Thanks, but no Goat-Zorah for me.
the left art you proposed look more rational really, pale skin because they lack sun exposition due to their way of living (ship life and suit with visor) i would go even a bit further to a point where you'd have a bit of transparency and see a bit of the circulatory system beneath the skin, then depending on how long they live this way of life you can also justify lacks or decrease in hair features, the tubes and earpieaces are also very clever and obvious when you think about it. I really like this art thanks for the video.
I personally think they would look similar to Neanderthals, with a lot of midface prognathism. and a longer braincase, but also with hoove-like toes and a more gracile build. I also thought they might have dark maroon-ish skin form evolving on rannoch, though maybe lighter from so little solar exposure aboard the migrant fleet. The wide hips allude to the laarger cranium, as in neanderthals, and other early homo sapiens. I wonder if they use silverware? Also great video mate.
your idea about the Quarians evolving from an animal akin to a Goat is a good one considering the predominantly arid conditions on Rannoch a hardy go anywhere eat anything herd aminal like a Goat would be plausible as the dominate species and being a Herd animal would have a social structure that evolution can work on to in time produce a sapient species. As it seems complex social structures are a prerequisite to evolving complex enough behavior that would eventually give rise to sentience. And since most examples of sapient species tend to evolve more readily from predatory species it would make the Quarians and even more interesting Species than they already are. Like the Krogan a predatory species but due to almost all life on Tuchanka is predatory the Krogan evolved eyes set on the sides of their head rather than more akin to prey animal as awareness of one's surroundings was a more useful survival trait than the good binocular vision which is what most Predators have. these little details can make emersion in a fictional world all the better to me and I do think ME 1,2,3 is one of if not the best example world-building in the Games.
I liked Tali's face reveal. It seemed poetic that after romancing someone for two games without knowing what they look like, essentially loving them for their personality alone, you would be rewarded with having them end up looking the most attractive(i.e. human).
a few things that help you argument would be the positioning of their eyes being spread out, and a bit higher than than on humans, as well as the positioning of their mouth piece. In addition to the fact that judging by their appendages, and basic human nature the quarians probably built the geth in their own image. Even before watching this I always assumed the quarians had stretched out faces similar to ant eaters, or the scarians from farscape.
This is what is kind of funny... you can "reject" the photo of Tali all you want, but it is what she looks like. Were the creators a bit lazy using a stock photo? yes, but it is their choice. You can't just refuse something (especially when it is not yours and you didn't create it) just because you don't like it. Reject it all you like, but it still is. That is canonically what Tali looks like, it is what the Quarians look like, nothing is going to change that. Personally, I think it could have been way worse. I didn't mind it, honestly. I thought she was very pretty, fit with her voice and personality fairly well, and done so intentionally most likely so people wouldn't be put-off when they finally saw Tali (take a love interest too far in the weird alien direction and players would have likely been just as angry). I do really like the second pic Taureor picked, that one was cute and unique... but it's still not what the Mass Effect creators chose.
if that were the case... well, then that would make her the greatest troller in history! totally ridiculous, obviously, but it would be f-ing Hilarious. Tali: "Oh, that's not me. I just gave Shepherd a picture of some random naked girl... cuz that's how we roll."
Tali: "Emergency induction port"
Shepard: "That's a straw Tali"
Emergency Induction Port...

A lot of fans are unhappy of Tali's canon appearance? No, They didn't like the stock photo laziness.
i was unhappy before i found out that this was photoshopped
Good for you, but you aren't the majority. Which is what the video basically insinuated, which is not the case.
*****
yeah... that's 1 thing. and I also wanted Quarians to look more... different than humans, I've seen the fan art ( the one of two favourites on the right in the vid) and I would be happy if they looked like that. then I found the official tali face in ME3 and i was a little pissed tbh.
And also if you recall Javik, or heard Javik comments on Quarians when he said "Even primative Quarians were considered attractive in my cycle." There had to be some sex appeal there....unless you think a goat like Tali is sexy?
bingo. lazy stock photo
The thing people tend to forget is, in the lore the quariens are the aliens closest to resembling humans, even compared to asarie
Yeah and that lore is clearly bullshit because it is 100% disprovable by anyone who uses their eyes. WHich looks more like a human? The Asari who are in every way but the head 100% human or the Quarians who aren't human anywhere?
GeorgeMonet
To be fair, if you looked at an unmasked Quarian (say, the cannon appearance of Tali as lazy that was)
Then an Asari woman (say, Samara/Morinth)
At first glance, the Quarians would be considered more human due to the fact they do have hair and human-like skin with the only thing diffirent being the ears (which could possibly be hidden due to the amount of hair cannon Tali has)
The Asari would be considered more alien due to the obvious cool-color skin, head fringe and the somewhat scaly appearance of the skin.
That and the above mentioned obvious diffirences
Quarians (females) have the feminine traits of human females cranked up to 11 with those m o t h e r l y hips and that they appear to be mammal/primate like in nature due to that they probably birth live young (albeit very big live young due to the wide thigh gap and the breasts means probably milk-fed) and that they evolved on an arid, dry world like the Savannah early humanity emerged from.
The Asari, due to the scale-like skin and very Earth-like (EDIT: Central European like)climate of Thessia are (probably) Amphibious or Reptillian in evolution and (probably) evolved to look like humans because bipedal forms are highly successful (as shown with our race EDIT: and others)
The Quarians are the most human from an evolutionary standpoint (probably) and the Asari from an appearance standpoint (probably)
I have no clue why i decided to research this much for this one insignificant reply to a comment im probably not even going to remember in a week max.
@@swirlyskyshock1155 i think the Protheans meddled somehow in the evolution of younger species and that's why most galactic species (including humans) are in humanoid form, like the Protheans.

the quarian lore aspect of not knowing what they look like is idiotic, it has been how long 200 years? and nobody has any photos or video of the quarians? how many quarian have been killed on pilgrimages, just crack their helmet and take a look and a photo, I mean it's unthinkable to not be able to know how quarians look like
Don't forget how the Asari and Krogran live a lot longer than 200 hundred years.
+Cida Sanctus Matriarch bartender did say something about quarians without their helmets if I remember correctly.
Dariusz Zaremba Oh right, I kinda remember that now. But pretty vaguely; I only ever talked to her in my first playthrough of the game years ago

Tali's face reaveal? -Oh yeah, that was awfu- No, I don't remember that happening. Nope, not at all.
Joe Nesvick Oh yeah, their sniping at each other is beautiful.
that's my attitude towards the endings. I still cannot.
I don't really mind that she looks human, but i am pissed that they just photoshoped an existing photo instead of creating a original 3D model.
i beg to disagree...i always wanted Tali to look the way she did..just the stock photo laziness is what sucks
Don't much care what she looks like. It's her attitude and intelligence that made her attractive in the first place. And Ms. Sroka's sexy voice, of course.
The should just make alien face of Sroka, would be a blast.
as a trekkie i have to point out that Star Trek has a whole story that explains why all the aliens are humanoid in appearance
basically the first race to reach the Space age in ST found out it was the only race in the milkyway, their empire spanned the entire thing and they never found any1 else
but then they lost the ability to reproduce and instead of clinging to life thru cloning they decided to seed life bearing planets with parts of their genetic code so that many different species would one day evolve, and make the galaxy a much more interesting place
i watched much Star Trek, but didnt know that. Where is this info coming from? Do you mean the Q race with it? (I hope its Q in english)
Star Trek TNG: S6 E20
thanks, really, More accurate that i ever hoped
I've just commented the same thing :D
That was such a throwaway episode as well I'm not surprised that most people don't remember it. It had this big message but the reaction from the series was like "Meh. Cool story, moving on".
"Doesn't have a place in modern sci-fi..."
"Well actually, Starg--"
"Unless it's Stargate, where it's explained."

When Deviantart did better hybrids than Bioware.
mass effect three was screwed up because of interference from EA. i blame EA for everything wrong with mass effect 3 and everything good about it is because of bioware being awesome. i know thats not fair but screw EA.
Since the picture of Tali stands out as extraordinarily lazy work for a series of games that crafted one of the most elaborate and thought out worlds in gaming.
smg.photobucket.com/user/johnny_nocturnal/media/Mass%20Effect/tali1.jpg.html that is an image from mass effect 1. Tali always looked like a human

See the point of the reveal was to give fans who had romanced her, a beautiful image that they could relate to. Not scare the piss out of them.
I mean, worst case scenario, her entire face could just be a giant Lamprey's Mouth.
I personally had no problem with the reveal and thought it was a nice touch.
i thought they should be more "lizardly"
soft scale skin, etc
I really love that you use the word hypothesis, it's just... really good to hear that word used accurately.
that's just a theory.
I see what you did there godlessandlovingit
Especially with so many "fan theory" channels from one game or show to the next. They're all just hypotheses.
Never understood why people made such a big deal about this. It seems highly likely to me that aliens could look relatively similar to humans, especially if they are humanoid. Patterns in nature repeat all the time. Case in point lagomorphs and rodents. Very different mammals with very similar features.
And to put that in perspective in game we always see asari as very human like in features with skin color and hair/scalp being the main differences though in the second game their is a conversation that gives credit to the theory that asari look different based on the race that views them, go to the bar on illium to find this in-game discusion in ME2
i.e. convergent evolution is a thing. The lore also mentioned them descending from similarly simian creatures.
*****
Well if you want to include mexicans as brown people a number of them are refered to as aliens in the US
sombodi200 because we only have our own planet as an example we must assume that data gathered here will apply to other life forms.
XRay22AW exactly!
well you are free to believe what her face look like if u agree with indoctrinated bioware thats ok, making another race with human face just dont add up because they are closer to turian and krogan than to human, i noticed legs and arms much more turianish, also couple with turian and quarian do can have kids indeed but human and quarian cant

"The meaning of life is actually quite simple, but... we will get into that, a little bit later."
Judging by their arms legs and biology I figured they'd look like altered turians.
What are you talking about? The Asari totally look like Turians.
I meant face-wise. I expected they'd have the elongated face, the fringes and those little mandibles.
No, they look just like salarians, just look at their skin tones.
how is that lazy? lol they could of wanted to make quarians look human before ME1 even came out lol
man im so happy i found your channel you answer the questions that i never even thought of and light a new light on until recently ignored topics thank you
Well, unfortunately it doesn't matter what we thing or feel, Bioware made it canon.
You're missing the point, this is for fun. Also they made it canon but it could have been a bad decision
+Taureor Tali's face was humanlike already in Mass Effect 1... Have you even played mass effect? Sometimes the lighting revealed she had a clear nose and sometimes the camera would clip through her visor during gameplay.
+Joshua Blachier smg.photobucket.com/user/johnny_nocturnal/media/Mass%20Effect/tali1.jpg.html
I wouldn't call it "last minute" if she already looked like a human in Mass Effect 1.
Her appearance is fine. The lazy part was using a stock photo instead of Tali removing her mask in actual game.
“Sterile ship conditions” ?Wasn’t it mentioned in ME2 that they never had an immune system, because they lived in symbiosis with their homeworld’s ecosystem?
3:07 I tried to look up Hamilton's Dison Alpha on Google but no luck. Did I spell it wrong?
A, there is far less info on that than I expected. I mean this book series: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_Saga - I strongly recommend them. There is (SPOILERS) an alien species that is basically one entity. Multiple specimen are connected by nerve tentacles and create a single mind. If they are separated, they become two. It's all fun and games until they discover electronic communication and can connect more specimen together. The whole planet of those things is one single mind and with radio it can send out ships while maintaining control... read the books, they are among the best Sci-fi I've ever read :)
Yep, me too. I have no idea how to spell it.
wow I'm fasinated! Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it
"The whole planet of those things is one single mind and with radio it

Sounds like geth
But it's all biological

I'm reminded of Asriel for some reason...
from the smurfs?
Grunt THE TANKBRED No.
Undertale.
Oh ok .👌
I know I got undertale flashbacks!!!!!!!
The problem was not that they looked too close to humans, the problem was they just did a lazy photoshop of a stock photo
My thought was horizontal closing mandibles like insects (I know there were no insects on Rannoch, just the look)
Also with their planet being quite barren other than around their coastal areas and assuming they are of mammalian type i thought of them covered in tight short fur like seals or the capybara(that would give a connection the the few toes and fingers too). Making them very comfortable in and near the water. (Rannoch only has slightly less water coverage than Earth but that is still at least half the planet covered in water and the orbital photo we have shows many islands and peninsulas making the coastlines of Rannoch enormously long)
Guess I'm making a Shepard named Loki now.
My favourite design is 5:38, though, since I saw that artwork ages ago.
i.ytimg.com/vi/N_YQ2aIFxG4/maxresdefault.jpg
This is what they look like. As seen ingame.
Another great hypothesis. Keep up the good work :)
4:56 I like this one. This is pretty much the face I imagined in my head, it fits with the look of the mask, and I think it matches her voice perfectly
I didnt like the picture ordeal. but I wasnt upset at the design of the quarians,
I thought that it was fitting that the mysterious race turned out to be surprisingly human
thing about it is if you look at the voice actor the picture looks like her with some photoshop highlights added to it
You can clearly see a Quarian unmasked in the Synth ending.. lol
6:19
I'm pretty sure Quarians just have bowed in lower legs, and don't actually have a digitigrade stance like you suggest.
I disagree
...It's clever and resourceful to badly Photoshop a picture?
If you say so.
When you showed your two favorite fan arts of tali's face, the one on the right is the one that I always pretend quarians actually look like.
Karl Day Thank you for the educational reply.
Also she has already built up a basic immunity if you romance Tali cuz you fuck her like two or three times. Which requires no suit to do
I don't think people had an issue that Quarians are a greyish or purple human-like species.
You did a great job on the entire video, but the little goat at the end was the best part.
goats not friendly, they always trying to ram me....
newuuser256 Stop trying to fuck them then.
Could you not eat my pants?
I JUST WANNA SAY AS SOON AS YOU SAY CONCEPT FAN ART. YOU SO THE REAL CONCEPT ART
i know cause i have the mass effect art books
Then why are people not flipping out about the asari?
Because asari always look similar to the species of the person looking at it. Turians see them like Turians. Salarians think they look just like them. Same with Krogans. It's some sort of mind trick hypnosis shit.
wait what? I didn't know that...
That's just a theory, and was never confirmed. Also there are pictures and statues of asari, someone would have noticed that.
It was during an in-game conversation between npcs in ME2 on that planet where you find Liara. Basically, 3 guys were out for a drink and watching an Asari dancer and they all think she looks like their own respective species.
That wasn't a confirmation just a debate of 3 drunken aliens.
The concept art on the right is my favorite as well, and that's the way I choose to picture them.
He is right, no matter what fans say or think Bioware is the ultimate authority on their own lore and world.

arent the asari just as bad? blue women wit head ridges?
Isn't it implied that they look different to every race though?
1:55 Sounds like I could use one of those suits for my breathing issues :P

Look at those two images.
I mean the plate right above the red line in this image masseffect.kikaimegami.com/Tali/possibleleganatomy.png
Also having the leg just curl like that would be impractical from the evolutionary standpoint, it is weaker than a straight one would be, are there any animals with curved bones in their legs?
In short, I'm sticking with my interpretation (which is this: 68.media.tumblr.com/02448ff77ac65964787ed7563633da87/tumblr_ni5apurMsS1rorlp3o1_1280.jpg ), I believe my position to be logical and consistent with all we know about the quarians and
general knowledge about animal anatomy BUT I have no definite in-universe proof to disprove your interpretation.
I think they should look similar to turians, they are both based on dextro aminoacids and all that...
What there made of and what they look like are two different things.
Chemically we are identical to sharks.
Sovereign Everblight And there goes my headcannon :'D
And we also share 50% of our DNA with bananas.
A single percentage can change absolutely everything.
ARE YOU SAYING I'm 50% SCALE?
Think about this: Salarians, Asari, Volus, Elcor and Humans (and just about every animal on earth XD) are all Levo amino acid.. does that mean Humans, Volus and Elcor look similiar? No, of course not.. Now *why apply that kind of logic to Turians and Quarians...*
Every time I see someone say "Turians and Quarians are related because they can eat the same food" makes me want to puke, by that logic, humans should be frequently dating elcor.. or, to put it in today's world's perspective, just because I can eat the same meat as my cat doesn't mean I should fuck it.
(Sorry if this looks offensive or something, I don't intent to throw anyone down ^^ have a great day fellow mass effect geeks :D)
5:41, that's what I was hoping Tali would look like.
As a bonus: In the Synthesis ending, you get to see an unmasked quarian
my only thought about this was when and how she got this picture
wait wait wait...
Quarians are are purple shaded humans with some defects...ppl don't like
but asari are BLUE shaded humans...
i get that asari's don't REALLY look like that. but no offence. they look like a blue shadded HUMAN female no matter what race you pick.
The theory on asari is that they look the way you perceive most attractive. which is why taurians feel they look like them, salarians think they look like them and so on and so forth.
Quarian immune systems have always been relatively weak, as pathogenic microbes were comparatively rare in their homeworld's biosphere. Furthermore, what few viruses and other microbes were native to their homeworld were often at least partly beneficial to them, giving them a symbiotic relationship with their environment.
kinda failed to mention that
Tali is NO GOAT! Do not ruin it! >D
I really liked how they decided to make tali look
Ooooooh, but no one bats an eye with the asari, huh?
ummm.... see my Asari video :p
its different dude ... there's a difference between an alien whose face was known the whole series , and an alien whose face was always covered , and then seeing how lazy the reveal was , literally a 2-3 minutes photoshop -.-
+Taureor disin alfar whats that can you tell me
The Asari appearance may not even be what the actually look like.... Just what humans perceive them to look like. As there is a scene in one of the bars where salarian, turian and others were commenting about how they look to their species. Salarian said they look more Salarian; Turian more like them, etc etc
Tali is an awesome character and deserved better.
In ME 2, you can ask Grunt about Okeer's imprint on the races. Human, salarian and asari are soft. Quarian and turian, you have to work the blade a little. And since quarian also share similarities with turian in their food... we can assume they have bony skins too.
capz He was on about Quarian insides not out. He's basically saying Quarian bones would be tough to break like wolverine.
@@azarzu oh hello
Awesome stuff bro I love your mass effect content keep it up bro.
I thought Tali looked nice in the photo. What's wrong with the way they depicted the quarians.
It's a slightly photoshopped stock photo. It is lazy, sloppy, uninspired and boring.
idk i like the way they did it but if you feel that way then sorry.
Still looks great though.
My man here just compared my Tali to a goat..
Also great video mate.
is that Sarah Jessica Parker ? at 6:07
your idea about the Quarians evolving from an animal akin to a Goat is a good one considering the predominantly arid conditions on Rannoch a hardy go anywhere eat anything herd aminal like a Goat would be plausible as the dominate species and being a Herd animal would have a social structure that evolution can work on to in time produce a sapient species.
It seemed poetic that after romancing someone for two games without knowing what they look like, essentially loving them for their personality alone, you would be rewarded with having them end up looking the most attractive(i.e. human).
Tali being more human is actually nice
Hamilton? Dyse, Alpha? can someone give me the link?
right
Peter F. Hamilton is the author. The books are Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained. Also, it is Dyson Alpha.
thanks
But of course.

a few things that help you argument would be the positioning of their eyes being spread out, and a bit higher than than on humans, as well as the positioning of their mouth piece.
7:51 well im gonna need a shit ton of alcohol to wipe away that one from my mind
