I think the point of making a cover of a well known song shouldn't be to try to make the cover _better_ than the original. It should be to try to make the cover _good enough_ whilst making it sufficiently _different_ from the original that people will happily listen to _both_ versions. I think "do I like this better than the original?" is the wrong question to ask. "Would I add this to my playlist?" is the right one. The best covers are the ones you are happy to have on a playlist alongside the original. And Leo has made lots of that kind of cover.
