The really short version of the story is that Editors had a song called "Nothing" , which they played live for a little while before they recorded it on their 4th album The Weight of Your Love. The song was an absolute monster and a huge favourite among fans, all chugging drums and noise with Tom climbing on his piano and spitting out his vocals with such force that he was often out of breath at the end. They even had a second drummer on occasion to play along with Ed. That, was its power. When they recorded it, however, they took a very hard left turn and employed the services of Clint Mansell (who is a gifted soundtrack composer). The resulting final studio take was a much more gentle, slow affair with some beautiful strings attached. The hurricane had been tamed, and it gave the song completely a new personality. Those who had been waiting to hear a recorded replica of their live experience of Nothing were...upset.
@@airbornelemmingahhh I never knew Clint mansell was involved! The full band version of nothing is one of my favourites and I actually saw the debut it at HMV Institute in 2012, incidentally my first Editors gig as well. I keep hoping for it to return to the set!
Finally, finally watched the video. Thanks so much!!!

What does the clint mansell comment refer to in the video description?
