If you never knew, the troops that play as the SS in the movie, are actually British re-enactors who brought all their own kit, all the uniforms, weapons, vehicles that you saw the SS division use were their own. So understandably their German isn't the best, bearing in mind they are British.

    • @Hukkavei

That would justify bad accent, but not nonsensical shouting commands. Those lines were shot and apporoved by the director. It doesn't take much effort to google translate something more sensible like Platoon 1 Check the house. You three, check that tank."

the makers of the movie could have over-dubbed the reenactors, if they thought they didn't sound authentic enough and may have filled the scenes with bad German that sounded butch enough for their purposes.

    • @panzerwaffel5281

But the problem is with what they say, "im Deckung" - take cover when the soldiers don't do anything like that, just run anywhere. "Schnell" - fast, it also makes no sense, because the soldiers do not even accelerate, even others do not accelerate and the Sturmoffizier itself does not. Cleaning the tank btw should look like the Germans should throw a grenade into the forehead, but that's by the way.
Yes, I do not understand why give the British as Germans, if FURY had a large budget, where are the German extras? Where is the consultation with historians, veterans and military personnel in this film? Don't they know that tracers were expensive and were mainly used by aviation? And here everyone has them, Germans and Americans, Germans even have them in every machine gun, of course the Germans had them, every 5th bullet had this bullet, but not every machine gun had this ammunition. It looks like a Star Wars movie, not a WW2 movie

Sorry but they were too well equipped and had too many men that were 20 - 30 years of age to be raw recruits in 1945. If they were new they would've received less because soldiers with more experience would've received more due to the experience, and as pointed out in the movie when they bring more panzerfausts, and they say to take better aim cause those were the last ones they had. Why would they send that many panzerfausts with new recruits? And half of the other shit they did in the movie like running around and missing shots at a tank that's 10 feet away is not due to being new recruits, it's due to Hollywood betraying the best german units as dumb and easy to defeat for American propaganda.

Using a machine gun or any lower caliber weapon against a tank isn't totally stupid and was a common tactic used to try and neutralize the optics, or at the very least blind the crew using them.
Although, that mostly applied to forces without an abundance of anti-tank weaponry that, if they had some, would very much use them before losing half of their battalion. But Hollywood.

    • @KSmithwick1989

The use of tracers is entirely cinematic. Also those tracers still would contain steel cores. As was common for ammunition of the time. Given there basically standard ammunition, with an added magnesium pellet at it's base.

He was just a more experienced platoon leader but it wasn’t too uncommon for 1st Lieutenant to lead a Company and this was very common in Stalingrad. The arm pumping is a German signal to move forward or move faster. It’s weird seeing both arms do it and I haven’t seen any manuals that show it. I'm so grateful my great grandad lived long enough to tell me a lot of his tales. Not a single one of them are how these movies portray.
He bore his scars, shrapnel in his body and ghosts all the way until 1997. The most kindest and loving man I've ever known. I felt so safe and relaxed around him. Can't believe someone like him had to go through what he had.

German troops were understaffed and low on ammo and everything. US troops were reserve at that point, but Germans were either combat hardenend vets or Volksgrenadier or Hitler Youth. Germans fought the battle of the Mekong Delta in Germany. To this day Hurtgenforest is off limits to visitors, only guided tours are allowed. The booby traps are still there. At least a movie was made in 1998 for HBO called "When Trumpets Fade". It is pretty brutal and graphic to be honest. But at least not rubbish like "Fury".

You are right if the German soldiers were such idiots they had been stopped for good at the polish border and the mess of WW2 would have never happened. I hate nazism and we have to stick to the truth to prevent it. Nazi Germany was - thankfully - crushed by economical and material superiority AND the German Wehrmacht were very capable soldiers possibly the best army of WW2. Whenever the us army met an equal strength German unit the outcome was most likely a defeat … for the Americans. Any serious historian can confirm that (that excludes Stephen Ambrose who wrote band of brothers). Against this backdrop this scene is utter ridiculous. An experienced SS Unit would have made quick work of this sitting duck tank in less than 10 minutes … just surround it under cover and fire a couple anti tank weapons at it.

This film was otherwise good but this scene ruined it for me as well.
One other scene that was bad was the first battle for the town. So the tank commander (Pitt) asks an elderly man with a cane "where the Germans are" and a German sniper then kills the old man instead of the exposed tank commander!! Made zero sense. With their position exposed, the Sherman blasts a hole in the building and kills dozens of Germans all concentrated there. Why didn't the Germans spread out among multiple buildings in their town to avoid that??? Another scene happened when a German machine gun hidden in a basement opened fire through the window killing several American soldiers but just waits there afterwards (instead of relocating fast after that) giving time for the Sherman to move its turret and kill them all with a tank round. And then this rambo/john wick scene, one vs 100 slaughter, at the end was awful for the reasons you described.
Reminds me of the film 'Saving Private Ryan' when during the town battle at the end the Germans fought so badly. Slowly, out in the open, exposed, bad tank maneveurs. You should do a video on that. As an American as well, I can tell you the audience here doesn't like seeing Americans die at all. So in Hollywood movies it's always a slaughter of Germans with very minimal depiction of US deaths. The Pacific war with Japan is much different since it has a reputation of being more gruesome. But as you pointed out majority of US deaths were in Europe fighting the Germans, who were a far more intelligent and deligent foe, whereas the Japanese had suicide charges and were less conservative with attacks and weren't concerned about casualties.

From an on fire tank he stood on top of it firing the .50 caliber machine gun while also directing artillery fire from his radio. He inflicted about 50 German casualties. Audie Murphy's stories of heroism from the war are so amazing that I am sure most people wouldn't believe it if they made a movie from it. The troops, or should I say children shown in the first parts of the movie are more realistic. I spoke with many German child soldier veterans from Volkssturm or HJ and they told much about the bad equipment, like french rifles with Italian ammo etc and many of them weren't older than 12 or 13. And they weren't many, I never heard about units larger than a company in platoon size, except in those famous pockets like Berlin or Breslau but in general that's what it must have been.
