It's crazy to think that City won another EPL with so many of their key players from the previous season missing for large parts of the season. I can't imagine any other manager winning the title with the likes of de Bruyne Haland Stones and Grealish out for the amount of games that they were, not replacing Gundo directly. We were so used to seeing Pep win that we sometimes forget his brilliance. great video
@@shamus3477Yeah, but the players on the bench are on the bench because they aren't as good as De Bruyne, Haaland, Stones and Grealish. Our squad was massively weakened early in the season because of injuries
And you see....that's why there's a misconception that you can buy a title. You need to spend to compete at the tops of Europe but it's the manager that needs to be flexible and use his squad
This should be a great watch, when Nobbinho broke down the back 2 system & Julian's impact at the beginning of the season, conceding a lot and dropping points at home and away especially without Godri. Whatever the next tactical shift is cause I know certain gaffers will copy Pep, it should be great.
Your best video Nobs. It was a clear, concise and entertaining overview of the tactical evolution of City this season without being overly pedantic like some of the Athletic’s content.
I think The tactics were much better in the second half of the season. But we also have to note how much better player performances were in the second half of the season. Foden has to play in the midfield. In more then half the matches he played midfield he got man of the match. 12 goals and 6 assists in 17 matches is ridiculous. Those are prime ozil and de bruyne numbers
Been looking forward to this since the season ended. A finely crafted fair and objective analysis Nobbins - well done!! That said, I HATED Pep’s super high line and respective derivative setups with it as every game we played we just seemed so vulnerable to the counter. I miss our defense of the Treble season and not having an anxiety attack nearly every time we turned the ball over like this season I’d be curious to get you thoughts on some of the drawbacks for Haaaland of the 2:3:5 (and derivatives of it) system. I thought Real Madrid really exposed the problems with it specific to Haaland. Yes our high line theoretically gives the opposition less space in which to operate but it also give us less space in which to operate as well. Our high line combined with slow buildup play allowed RM defense and their whole team for that matter, to flood the box thereby sucking out nearly all of the space that Haaland thrives in hampering him beyond what Rudiger and co we’re doing. It also made very difficult to get any balls through all the bodies and legs that were in the way. I recall 33 shots 8 on target and only 1 goal. Seems interesting that MU did a similar thing when they played us in the FA cup too: stay back, flood the box and allow City to have the ball as you mentioned earlier, using defenders as wingers is not much of a threat just like when we had Akanji at the top of the RM box, was not a problem bc he’s a defender. Just observations and so I could be missing something
Think this current system depends too heavily on individual brilliance and isnt sustainanable in the long run, but as always I trust in pep and the board to do what they always do. Great video as always mate. Looking forward to the video about the signings we should make next season.
Honestly Foden just shouldn’t even feature for England unless he’s played as a 10 and given licence to operate in the half space. Best player in the premier league this season, but he is genuinely a mediocre player at left wing. In 40 caps for England I haven’t seen him have even one good game. There’s no time for big tactical changes now, but after the euros it’ll be interesting to see if a different coach can get the best out of him.
@@Nobbins oh hell yeah, I don't know if it is possible, but it would be amazing to hear your take on this season's signings and like what do you think they can add on with the likes of doku and matheus
Yeah this season was basically Guardiola constantly shooting his team on their foot by very had tactics and personnel, the most egregious one was probably put Alvarez in midfield while Foden had to do touchline duty.
Given that PEP potentially could leave us after a year now who do u you wanna see as Replacement for him ?🤔 who is best likely option for us ? . For me Anceloti or negalsman would be great options at least bring someone with winning experience . Can u make video about that plz 🙄
"the best run of consecutive league wins up until that point was 5" is wrong, City won 6/6 in the prem to start the season until the rodri red and wolves loss video class as always though
Guardiola just wanted to make things interesting in the league, he knew if he didn't make terrible decisions for a good part of the season, his boys would have the league wrapped up by April so he just wanted it to be a little more fun..nothing to see here.

It really isn't city have the deepest squad in the league

Did you have to mention useless Grealish ñ
different league but ancelotti did pretty much the same thing with madrid last season
A frustrating season which ended in a historic 4-peat. Hopefully we sign a Gundo-like player for next season, we’re lacking his leadership.
And you see....that's why there's a misconception that you can buy a title. You need to spend to compete at the tops of Europe but it's the manager that needs to be flexible and use his squad
need more midfield signings
And now you’ve ended up signing him to replace himself

Wow this is a great video, massive effort in putting this together.

Lnobbins really like your Man city content
this should be a lesson to Pep that his players aint robots and that got to trust their quality
More like a lesson to other managers.
You sre the best City tactical analyst on TH-cam.
Period!
Great summary of how the season progressed!

Have yet to see a video like this that basically tactically summarizes city's season with all the changes and solutions pep was searching for
Well now you have! 😃

Great Analysis
Exceptional quality video

Amazing summary, though i am curious, what tactics and players would you like for city to implore come next season
My ideal player transfer video will be out in the coming days hopefully!

It seems like the biggest issue is that City's wings are dead. Grealish and Doku are gonna be key deciders in City's success next season IMO
Yeah we are sort of reliant on width when opposition sides make the centre so compact.
Doku next season will be crucial as will Savio/another winger
"the best run of consecutive league wins up until that point was 5" is wrong, City won 6/6 in the prem to start the season until the rodri red and wolves loss
video class as always though
Out by 1 game, you’ll have to forgive me… hope you enjoyed the video
Pep is a slow starter nowadays. Is he copying the Italian acts in the world cup ?
Guardiola just wanted to make things interesting in the league, he knew if he didn't make terrible decisions for a good part of the season, his boys would have the league wrapped up by April so he just wanted it to be a little more fun..nothing to see here.
Love it 🩵
which position do you think Foden should play for in Southgate's England in a standard 4-3-3 formation?
If we’re going for an incredibly vanilla Southgate system then he should be the 10 without a shadow of a doubt
So basically the 115
We are going for 5 in a row bluess💙💙

It’s how football has worked since the 19th century tbf haha why fix what isn’t broken!

funny how city had a bad season and still won the league
93, likes take the hint and have a break. Its over you won a single trophy. Deal.
