This was a huge hit on radio when it was released in 1985. HUGE! It's only gotten better over the years. Killer lyrics, vocals and instrumentals. Had no idea Roland Orzabal could play guitar like that.
The song is about humans the desire for control and power and center on themes of corruption….one of their best ever songs..in 2024 this is still on my playlist list
Love this song! When my youngest daughter graduated from high school 5 years ago I used this song on a picture dvd video.

Roland Orzabal is an Awesome guitarist! Roland and Curt Smith (lead vocals on this song) are so great together! TFF have other great songs like "MAD WORLD", "SHOUT", "HEAD OVER HEELS", "SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE". These guys are Legend, Timeless, Classic!! Love it!!

This is their biggest hit but I'd also check out Shout, Pale Shelter, Mad World ,Advice For The Young at Heart and Head Over Heels.
