    I really wish u could set up a shopping list of parts needed for this build! bout to do my own and dreading it

      It's something that may be possible as we have receipts for most parts. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in and maybe I can make a spreadsheet on Google docs and share it

    Nice video.
    I just picked up a Nissan Caravan Royal ‘96 (JDM) which houses the same motor. I’m looking for motor oil and filter recommendations for the VG30e, if anyone can offer any recommendations?

    Currently rebuilding my tt. Did you paint those valve cover or did you purchase them

    • @PistonheadProductions
      @PistonheadProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They were purchased used from someone in the community and had already been powdercoated. Unfortunately, whomever did it, didn't tape the openings properly when sand blasting, and so I had to drill out the baffles and clean them. Definitely a good idea to paint unless the person powder coating knows what they're doing

    Man you're a smart guy so why in the world would you not have the fan shroud on? I mean you may as well not even have the fan installed without the shroud and save the 20 hp. it cost to run it. Oh, and when you blow one of those multi layered head gaskets, go back to the OEM ones and use copper spray on both sides. You'll be good up to 900 hp.

    • @PistonheadProductions
      @PistonheadProductions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fan shroud was destroyed so we didn't bother with it. The car has never has an issue with heat so I never bothered with replacing it. In terms of the headgaskets, the machine shop actually shaved the deck down too much because of surface pitting so the thicker gasket was a hail Mary attempt at allowing us to still use the block. So far so good three years later.

    Do you need the timing cover on because I think I seen some 300’s without it

    • @PistonheadProductions
      @PistonheadProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically you don't need it, but if the car gets street driven regularly, it only takes one small rock bouncing up to take out the timing belt, and then you're having a bad day

    Arp Fasteners and no forged Pistons? was the mains Honed for the ARP studs?

    • @PistonheadProductions
      @PistonheadProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Upgraded pistons and rods were not needed as the power goals were within the capabilities of the stock engine. The mains were not touched.

    Where the head bolts any different? I remember breaking something when I torqued one down wondering wtf.

    • @PistonheadProductions
      @PistonheadProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No issues to make mention of. Just make sure the correct lube is used and if you locktite you torque them down before it dries

    Would it be easier to do external waste gates on these cars?

    • @PistonheadProductions
      @PistonheadProductions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      External gates would require more space so I think it would be a pain to do without a lot of custom exhaust fab

    After deleting all the emission stuff does the check engine light come on . If so how do u fix that

    • @PistonheadProductions
      @PistonheadProductions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to install a delete tune in the truck in order to get rid of the check engine light. Most diesel shops can do a quick flash tune, or you can buy a tuner and do it yourself.
