    I'm just amazed that I hear Water water water. I have had Stella Doras for 20 years
    and I never felt a need for major watering. I'd water the annuals in front of them,
    but rarely water the daylilies. But I believe you and this year I will start to dead head
    them and water them.

      You're not wrong. Daylilies are extremely drought tolerant when they're established. Some varieties, like Stella, do better without regular drinks of water than others. Even so, all daylilies bloom better and brighter (and the reblooming varieties rebloom better) with reliable, consistent watering.

    Great video! I do tend to gravitate towards rebloomers because our growing season in Texas is March to November. But I’m slowly adding all varieties because I know there are so many gorgeous ones that I’m missing out on.

      We love the rebloomers, too, but you're right: there are so many really beautiful daylilies that would be overlooked if one only focused on those that rebloom.

    Just wondered if you did an update after you planted the daylily seeds and how they germinated.?

      Unfortunately, we got busy and forgot about those little seedlings. We're going to plant more again this year and share the results later

    How often do you water them per week if living in Southern California

    • @OakesDaylilies
      @OakesDaylilies  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! You'll probably need to play it by ear (or sight in this case!). As long as they receive 1" to 2" a week they should be fine but if you water them once a week and they start looking like they need more water, maybe go 1/2" to 1" twice a week.

    Is a half gallon drip emmiter enough for a small new daylilly? Runs for 75 minutes twice a week

      Yes. I think that sounds fine.

    Is it necessary to cut the tops of the fans off? Seems like this causes some temporary dormancy as it took a few months to see new growth on the plants I ordered.

    • @OakesDaylilies
      @OakesDaylilies  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We trim the tops before shipping for two reasons: 1) the foliage is going to wilt and look bad after being dug and moved anyway, so a preemptive trim keeps it from doing so and 2) trimmed foliage makes it easier to plant.

    How often should I fertilize?

    • @OakesDaylilies
      @OakesDaylilies  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We usually suggest fertilizing in the spring before they bloom and when/if you divide or transplant. If your summer was super rainy or if your daylilies look like they need it, fertilizing in the fall (at least a month before your first predicted freeze) can help revitalize plants. Fertilizing too often can cause a daylily to produce more foliage and less blooms.
