      I drilled holes all over my bike and it weighs hardly anything anymore. I keep getting a whistling sound when the wind blows through the holes.
      I tried zip ties but they wont hold it together at all. (just joking)
      That’s got to be the worst thing to do, even on a senior’s tricycle.

    Hey this worked like a charm. Thanks for the video. My Giant explore stock would do 32km/hr and then cut out/in. After your mod I can get to ~44km/hr. I personally find that 36km/hr is a comfortable riding speed for backroads in Alberta mountains. Hardest part was running to the hardware store to get a tamper proof torx. Enjoying the bike a lot more and no problems as of yet

    Interesting concept. And see all those comments and other alternatives ... when are the makers of e-bikes just going to acknowledge that limiting at 25 is ridiculous when so many people can pedal a normal bike faster than that and fit people are riding them - especially the e-mountain bikes. When it hits 25 on the flat it feels like pedaling with a handbrake on - ridiculous! .

    • @robarias8625
      @robarias8625 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's imposed by them by law. In many countries it's not legal to motor assist a bicycle beyond the 25 km/t. Obviously this is a software limitation which can be worked around like this, or with a chip. I don't have a mountain bike but I imagine you would only turn on the assist when you are climbing up hill and need help in order to not get so exhausted - after all, it's going down-hill that's fun.

      They have to for import purposes. Today 99/100 of then you can just go into the setting and change the max speed ezpz.
      Some also have a hard limiter between the batt and controller you can unplug to keep an eye out for.
      Though for 25 bucks you can just upgrade to a computer that can show all settings which I did for a friend. Actually, we got him a new controller (22a to 28a) and a computer bundled for 50 bucks and his ebike goes 38mph from 20ish mph.

      That's because the firmware detected that your cadence matches exactly to the wheel rpm. This "hack" no longer works. You need to go to the dealer to have the motor reset (if they'll do it as the motor is now no longer covered by your warranty probably). There is a rumour that pedaling the bike in limp mode for 90 minutes will reset the error (flip it over and turn the creaks by hand, it's easier). I don't know if that's true because now I run a shimano motor. Good luck

    Hello Daniel, Wrote to you a little while ago. Now that the summer is practically over here in Europe I wanted to start the hack process on my GIANT ebike, but surprise, the firm GIANT are not stupid, to take off the sensor the surprise was a nippled torx screw, in other words I needed a hollow torx screwdriver which I didn't have to take the sensor off. I managed to send out an order to Amazon for a set of 32 pcs to fix on a screw driver. The order will be arriving tomorrow so I'll keep you posted on the follow up, Cheers mate.

      You are not alone. It took me more than 30 minutes to find the right scredriver, because my Giant has chain protecting case, I could hardly see the screw! I have a 'Giant GrandTour E+ 1 2018' with a Yamaha motor (60 Nm, 250 W). I tried this method. After putting the magnet on the pedal I got two outcomes, 1) the motor works only a little bit, basically it is not working. 2) After changing the position of the magnet several times at last the motor works as before the delimiting, namely the Ebike moves maximal 25 Kmh. In both case the speed display display from 4 to 99 kmh. Anyone has any advice? Thanks in advance! My guss is: there is a maximal working limit for this Yamaha motor and the motor working limit cannot be surpassed even we change the position of the magnet.

    So I bought my uncle's 2021 Polygon Path E5 off him and it's max is 32km/h but was limited to 25km/h when it was sold in Australia. With a 504Wh battery that's some bullshit. After one ride to work today I'm looking to remove it, I sit at 35ish pedalling anyway, so this would be ideal. It has the Shimano Steps motor, my uncle said there's a limiter wire installed? Didn't see this sensor you speak of...
    Might have to open the motor.
    Edit
    Def no sensor like the video.
    So removed the battery pack and removed the left side motor cover and only see 2 wires that def look factory installed. Need to do some research 😟

    As this will upset your speed and ODO reading, wouldnt it be easier to simply move fw or bw the magnet on the wheel to make it not readable by the sensor? Just worth to mention that in case of any accident you may face charges for riding unregistered vehicle without required and valid insurance and if you don't hold moped driving licence then the third charge will be not holding a proper driving licence as ebike without speed restriction is no more treated as bicycle, it's moped instead.
    So be cautious if you decide to risk such a modification.

      Thoughts after a year? It worked great! cruising speed is about 33kph easy riding, can get it to ~40kph peddling hard on flat Regret not cable tying the sensor rather than drilling the frame... the comments section certainly corrected me on that one... That being said I've had no problems with the mod, and the frame is still intact despite the small hole haha. Once I lost the magnet which was funny. Parked up next to a metal bike rack and the magnet jumped onto the bike rack, but I noticed when I left and the ebike wouldn't engage. Went back and found the magnet. That was about all that's gone wrong since I made this video.

      @@stevezodiac491thats why we dont like the speed limit of 25km/h. When in good shape few years ago, i did a trail on regular track. A track a bit less than one hour at full speed, i did an average at 32km/h on my light weight tarrain bike with no engine. Even with my now new 115NM ebike, with a speed assistance limit of 25km/h, i stand no chane to keep the same speed. Electric bicycle that is more heavy just dont stand a chance against trained cyclists on road with that speed limits. Thats why we think the speed assistace limits are too low. I get it in cituies and for less aware cyclists that creates danger in traffic. But what with us that is just medium trained and likes realy long trips on bicycles. Unfortunately i am not at the same level that i was. And 70-80km trips on partial terrain or just a bit to hard. A smaller tire wheel will not rotate faster nor slower than a bigger wheel at a given driven speed( your crank , pedal rotational speed remains the same) It will just not travel further than a bigger wheel . A small wheel covers less distance per revolution so its slower than a bigger wheel covering more distance per its 1 rotation.

    hi, enjoyed watching your video👍, no.1, id like to know, how does this hack effect your battery gauge??
    im thinking, if your going faster, you will be using alot more power, which i assume, drains battery faster.

    • @danielcaigou6403
      @danielcaigou6403  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it'll use a little more battery... but a lot of the energy is required to get you up to top speed, not as much required to maintain top speed.
      But yes overall you'll use more battery. But that's a small price to pay for the annoying cut in cut out of a speed limiter

    I rader buy a kit were you can turn on and off max speed and the speed is correct, speed box is a great way to set up your bike without any modifications, just plug it in and you simply turn it on and off with the controller on your bike, off max 25kmh and on 99kmh.

      That's the issue I see with it. Surely if you're coasting (no pedal rotation) the motor will think you're stopped, and get somewhat confused when you suddenly ask it for assistance again? Most motors now are designed with some ramp-in rather than sudden power so it seems to me this would result in an odd feel to the assistance?

    Ok jaycar has a speedo converter, it takes the magnetic pulse and puts out another pulse at 0 to 100% rate of the original depending on what you set that too. Theres a switch to set that..
    They run on 12vdc, the power down in the motor hub is 36vdc, jaycar sell a dc to dc converter $8 for arduino ( a very handy board) and it will power the speedo converter... (up to 36vdc) wire it up, fit it in the area of the motor , set your percentage to 50% and the controller now thinks 50kmph is actually 25kmph...Shhh dont tell anyone I told you!...
    Total price $38.
    To fit use a bit of common sense, I bought a plastic holder. $3 for the dc to dc converter.
    Skill level - easy
    Add a small fuse too in case anything goes wrong! ;-)
    Ps dont forget to tx Oring!
    Aka me for taking the time to find a cheap and usefull alternative.
    I do like this idea too! Im pretty sure bosche engineers are nuts for thinking 25kmph limit was a good idea!

My guss is: the position of the magnet plays an important role and there is a maximal working limit for this Yamaha motor and the motor working limit cannot be surpassed even we change the position of the magnet.

    1:15 smallest wheel possible? what are you talking about?

    • @joe0932
      @joe0932 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can set the wheel size on the ebike computer then setting it to a smaller wheel size will make it "think" that the speed is slower since one revolution of a smaller wheel is a smaller distance. Hope that's not a terrible explanation 😬

    • @johndeer8108
      @johndeer8108 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Josh Shipton Not smaller wheel! You would need to change to bigger one. Coz smaller wheel spin faster. On the same distance smaller wheel will spin twice as much. What computer does is counting how many times magnet went past the sensor.
      And based on settings (I believe you cannot change that in settings) calculate the speed based on wheel size. And then you’ll have opposite affect because small wheel will spin faster on same distance.

    • @joe0932
      @joe0932 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johndeer8108 Yes your right, if you changed the wheel to a bigger one it would increase the max speed limit. If you can change the wheel size setting in the ebike computer (not the wheel itself, just the setting) then setting it to a smaller size will increase the max speed limit again. Because like you said, a smaller wheel will be turning faster and so with the same size wheel, the limit will be higher if the computer "thinks" the wheel is smaller. Of course if you can't change this setting on your ebike then it's of no help knowing that :)

    • @mlee6050
      @mlee6050 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤦 that depends on the gear ratio, say front cog has 44t and you on the 11t cog on the cassette then each pedal turn be 4 turns of the wheel, front can be anything like between 22-72t saying the range you can get but it depends on crank, the 72t is more likely on TT bikes or track bikes, rear is like 10-52t depending on cassette you have, think mountain bike can go up to 52t but most older have 34t max and smallest is 10t or 11t or even 12t normally
      I mainly ride 44/11 on mountain bike and 53/11 on road bike
