Love it, love it, I think everyone has there own way of doing things, and what ever works for you. That’s all that matters. I think you use exactly what you need!!!! Love your work!!
I watch this guy on youtube called skech art that dose amazing art work with spray paint and one of the way to create stars is to spray some white paint on your finger and flick it randomly on your black background to create stars...you should try that on this type of tumblr you making...anyways looks great! Its really beautiful!!! You got to love epoxy its so easy to use! :)
That turned out phenomenal! I purchased my first ever Pinata white so I can try these. I use the Brea Rees but had NO idea she had a white of her own. That is something to look towards. 😁
Me either until I stumbled across it at Michaels right before chaos hit the world! I love adding white to just about every ink swirl I do, it just adds a different dimension!
I know! I had no clue until I came across your videos. Man, that just blows open wide a whole new world of exploration.😁 Thanks to our Chaotic Conundrum, I get to learn to have the patience of a saint, thanks to the Internet and snail mail delivery. Lol!
Thanks for your help. I rolled out my first 2 Tumblers today. At least 2 that weren't destined to end up in the recycling bin. BTW I found 20 oz Tumblers 2 for 10 at Rural King.
Alissa Perry I’ve had to do a couple layers to get inks to not blend. I hydrodipped red/white/black. It might be easier than inks since the white can turn gray and the red can turn pink.
I wish I could freeze the epoxy when it got where I wanted! The only way I can think to even remotely keep it close to the same is to cool it off as fast as possible. I’ve held a cup in front of my ac to cool quickly when the epoxy was hot and runny before. Temp changes like that can cause ripples in the epoxy, but it would be fairly easy to recover on the next layer of epoxy.
Tracey DeCoste stirring with a metal stick instead of wooden seems to help a lot. Also, the parts being warmer is a big help. When I’ve poured it on, I torch it. Not on the ink layers, but on other coats.
The Purple Stitch great thanks so much!! Do I heat up both parts of the epoxy separately ? I heard that using a candle warmer works well but I haven’t tried it yet. How long do I heat it up for? How long should I stir for?? TIA!!
Tracey DeCoste I cant really give you a time or temp suggestion since all epoxy will be different. Be careful heating it on an element, I use a shop light in the winter. Close enough to do the trick, but too close will cause too much heat and can make it cure faster than usual. I stir until I have completely clear epoxy. Any oily looking strands/spots are parts not mixed completely.
I love your cups and want to try making one. However I am 8 months pregnant and worried about using epoxy. Is it safe for me to use and if not can you recommend something else to use?
What else can I use besides epoxy resin to let the alcohol inks flow? I have found that even with an N95 mask, a tight face mask and lots of ventilation, my arm and face, eyes, and ears swell up and break out. So obviously, this is something I can no longer do. What else can I use?
Weeeeellllll, this is an old video......I’ve switch to nitrile since this time of my journey. I only had issues when I was doing multiple cups at once. I really didn’t have issues with vinyl for a long time. I wasn’t aware that they were a poor choice for a long time.
I use Faux Rizzle epoxy and when I mix it it’s always a little cloudy and tons of micro bubbles .. I stir slowly and mix equal parts A & B. What can I do to get the epoxy come out clear with no bubbles?
The Purple Stitch yes, on my very 1st attempt using epoxy I mixed part A and part B separately in small cups stirred them for 3 mins each then used the heat gun for like 30 seconds to a minute and all it did was make the epoxy thicker and harder to work with. I was told by someone on one of the tumbler sites to try using a candle warmer I haven’t tried it yet but I’m planning on it. I’m a little nervous about using a candle warmer not sure if I’m supposed to heat them both up or just the hardener? And for how long?? Thanks again for your advice.
Tracey DeCoste if it got thick fast, it was starting to cure. I use a shop light for heat. It’s indirect. I’m not familiar with that brand, but I’m confused on why it would require stirring them separately. That could be part of the bubble problem...?
I just have a question. I'm new at making tumblers and the last two I have made end up with a bubble of epoxy on the bottom. I made a 12oz and a 30oz. On the 30 I use 20ml of epoxy. And it is fine when I'm making them and they are spinning all night but when I turn them off in the morning it has the bubble. How do I stop getting the bubble?
It sounds like your cup isn’t level. It could be the turner itself or how the cup is on there. To check for level, set something taller at the end of the cup. The flat end/bottom should be completely vertical level to the taller item (spray paint cans are perfect). The cup should not be level horizontally. I hope that makes sense! 😁
The inks typically won’t show up otherwise. There may be some inks out there that act more like a tempera (not sure I got that right) paint pigmentation. But I haven’t stumbled across any yet.
Bonnie C I’ve only tried alcohol inks, so I can’t really help with advice on any others. If you don’t have white, I’d start on a lighter base and add darker colors to get a darker tone. 😁
The Purple Stitch I think it’s Amazing how the inks run into each other and create nice designs colors. I seen other people do what you did with the white but I don’t know what happen it just stayed white on the cup it did not run into the other color. but you nailed it 100%. Who ever you made that cup for is going to be one very happy person
If the vinyl/decal you want to use is also dark, you could do an offset of a lighter color to make it pop. That’s where there’s a slightly larger outline of the same shape under it.
Hi, I think your stuff is amazing! I had a few questions... My epoxy keeps getting defects, uneven spots and pitting also how many total layers and do you sand in between layers, how do you prep before your top coat? I tried to find you on Instagram so I could show you what I’m talking about but couldn’t, could you send me your IG please. Sorry for the bombardment of questions. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hi there! Some of the defects could be lint in the air. I’ve seen some people put a Rubbermaid tote over the cup and turner. The pits or fish eyes can possibly be from oily spots on the cup before epoxy. Sometimes it’s from overheating. I had to add TX to my tag on Instagram, and I’ll be honest that I’m insta-illiterate 😬. I also have a Facebook page that you can message me on. It’s facebook.com/thepurplestitch and you can just click message. Hope that’s a little helpful and you can definitely send a message if that didn’t help. 😁 I’m not an expert by any stretch but I make lots of mistakes that I learn from! 😆
This is beautiful, I am thinking of doing a green base coat and dropping inks black, brown and tan and see if I can get a camo look.
Love it, love it, I think everyone has there own way of doing things, and what ever works for you. That’s all that matters. I think you use exactly what you need!!!! Love your work!!
I love these ink tumblers! You make them look so easy. Great that you explain everything for us new people.
Wouldn't have ever thought about adding the white spray paint! And girl you need to apply for Amazon's affiliate program!!
I am part of that program. 😁 the “affiliate links” I post in some of the video descriptions are what those are.
That was absolutely stunning! You’re such an amazing teacher!
🥰 you’re so sweet!

Gorgeous! Gorgeous! ❤️❤️
Omggggg this cup is gorgeous!!! 🥰

Wow love the cup
Love this!
Absolutely Gorgeous 😍
Great job your cups are awesome!!!
Beautiful ❤

Love it... can’t wait to try it!!
Great looking tumbler! Do you put a clear coat of spray paint on before doing a top coat of epoxy? Or do you do something else?
Wow! never seen this before love it, that is so cool!
Maybe with large area of white then after epoxy dries then apply label then epoxy over it - correct? I’m new sorry but I love this technique.
I am going make my first alcohol ink tomorrow, this such pretty color :)
Beautiful! 💜
I have a customer order for a red, black and white. love your colors!!!!
Alissa Perry I’ve had to do a couple layers to get inks to not blend. I hydrodipped red/white/black. It might be easier than inks since the white can turn gray and the red can turn pink.
Question!!! If someone wanted a mostly red alcohol ink tumbler, would white turn it pink?
Absolutely beautiful I hope I can do something close, one day!
I loveeee ittt .. question .. Did you prep the tumbler and spray paint black with spots of white ? How many epoxy layers do you do?
Most of the time just one more layer of epoxy to seal it in. Two if I’m doing vinyl.
When you first added the white, it looked like jellyfish. So beautiful. Anyway to make it stay like that?
I wish I could freeze the epoxy when it got where I wanted! The only way I can think to even remotely keep it close to the same is to cool it off as fast as possible. Sounds kinda hard. Maybe put in the freezer. I might try that. Thanks for the reply
Beautiful!!
can you try to do a camouflage cups???
Great tutorial!
Beautiful 👌
Question? How do you get your epoxy so clear with no bubbles ? I am just starting out and would appreciate any input you have! TIA!
Tracey

The Purple Stitch thanks for the tips! It’s much appreciated!!
Did you paint tumbler black first. Then drop white paint on area you wanted?
Leah Busselle black base with a few spots painted white (that didn’t seem to even be helpful) but plenty of white ink.
I love your cups and want to try making one. However I am 8 months pregnant and worried about using epoxy. Is it safe for me to use and if not can you recommend something else to use?
I’m definitely not qualified to give that sort of advice. 100% talk to your doctor. Personally, I would wait. Congrats!!!

I’m honestly not sure on that. Crystalac goes on thin and is the usual epoxy alternative.
if you used red will it look pink?
How do you use clear vinyl gloves? The epoxy literally melted through mine and blistered my skin.
Weeeeellllll, this is an old video......I’ve switch to nitrile since this time of my journey. I only had issues when I was doing multiple cups at once. I really didn’t have issues with vinyl for a long time. I wasn’t aware that they were a poor choice for a long time.

have you tried warming them a bit before pouring/mixing? I have zero experience with this brand.

Could I tape it off and then before it dries pull tape off and apply label on after it dries and epoxy after I apply label?
That sounds like it should work!
Is there a specific kind of base paint to use? Flat, semigloss, enamel etc.?
I bounce around based on the color I need and whatever finish it comes in. 🙂

can I ask what type of mask you wear?
Do you always have to use white ink when you have a black base ?

Thank you. This is my first attempt at this and I had all colors but white lol I fit suppose u can mix them when doing the cup ?
Meaning mix other types of inks ... sorry lol

The Purple Stitch thank you
How long have you been doing these tumblers for ?
Almost 2 years. You’d think I’d figure out by now that the inks never do what I want! 😂

what kind of spray paint did you use?
I almost always use Rustoleum 2x.
How can I make dark tumbler with a lettered label ?
If the vinyl/decal you want to use is also dark, you could do an offset of a lighter color to make it pop. That’s where there’s a slightly larger outline of the same shape under it.
This is gorgeous! By top coat, do you mean one more layer of resin?
Michelle Ells yes 😆 in Texas, lots of stuff means lots of stuff. 😂 sorry!
@@ThePurpleStitch Thank you. I haven't made one yet so I wasn't sure if there was another step. 😊
❤

Stand up heat gun on its end.
That’s smart! It came with a metal rear that I keep moving and losing. 😆
Oops! Rest! Not rear 😳
