The first example is Afaik, you can use both either the effects or to your guitar it's just the other end has this long support so that you won't bent the cable massively lols and again the last example of DMX and XLR they are the same except that the DMX where you will be needing a resistor is when it comes to the end of loop cable not thru signal
i'm using xlr cables for my lighting fixtures (JB lighting, GLP, etc.) and controllers (grandMA 2+3) since ever and never experienced any problems. maybe i dont have chinese trash hooked up on both sides at the end. even never used a resistor at the end.
So, to make an xlr cable work with dmx, you would just need to increase the ohms. To increase the ohms, you could attach a certain number of xlr cables together to reach 120 ohms.
Rule of thumb: thicker is better... I make my own, and tend to use 18awg fully sheilded, wit 16ga sheild, fully braided, with 90% or more coverage when I want to make sure I wont get any noise. Also, I never experienced light flickering problems using mic cables as dmx. Most problems I had for lighting only came from a poorly designed electrical system at the venue. Switching cables didn't help. The solution was more likely installing dmx opto-isolators in Between machines that were on a different electrical system. Anyways, good luck
Thanks. i have known a long while there is a difference but often hard to tell what. Now I know the DMX doesn't use copper for it's shield wire. In a similar way, if I need a male to male DMX cable, can I just use the XLR gender bender or do I HAVE to chop a plug off and resolder a new male plug? Thanks
It's not a DMX because it's still passing audio signal rather than data. You can sometimes find 5-pin mic cables, but rarely and it's usually proprietary.
I'm just learning necessary details about cables. Thank you for this education on these two cables. I had no clue this was even a thing.
This is the video I needed rather than the others that just say, dont do it. I like to know why. Thank you
difference between xlr and dmx cables: just dmx gon give it to ya

is their any indication on the cable to tell us what it is ? like any Marking or the rated OHMS ?
Sometimes on the cable there is dmx pr microphoe cable written out
Outherwise
110ohms is dmx
ex. 45 ohms is xlr
Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video. So what is the Awg like 22,24,26,28 to 30. ? I think its different thickness for better transformation 🤔

Thanks for this!
Good info thanks

you could however dmx converters are cheap enough to buy from ebay or amazon
I bought 2 vintage Sennheiser MD421N. I need to make 3 pin female DIN to MALE XLR. Should this be easy?
Yes, it should definitely!
If I had a pile of mixed csble, how do I know which is which?
No real trick. You have to take some time to sort them out and identify them.
I just look for the shielding by opening a connector, then heat shrink or tag the cables in case a cable finds it's self in the wrong gig case again.
If the ohms / resistance of the cable is different, will that help find the purpose of the cable?

My blue yeti pro cane with a 5 pin, does this mean that it’s a Dmx? The 5 pin xlr splits to two 3-pin xlr cables

Thanks for the explanation in your video, it helped me a lot since I am starting in the audio and sound systems 😁👍🏻
Which is the best solder cable to solder XLR cables?
Do you mean solder wire and not the entire cable?
sooo…. how can you tell them apart….. beside the guys that sold it to you …..????
Different ohms
thats why i cant put this cable on audio interface
you told me nothing and sounded like a sales man...didnt have a clue about the wire types and interconnections...sorry thumbs down...
