Fascinating. I love watching your process and problem solving. Hadn't thought of using my knee as a faux shoulder, but certainly makes sense.

Chef’s kiss to this whole ensemble ❤. The fabric is stunning, and you look absolutely lovely. I really appreciate the history as well as the detailed sewing techniques. I finally understand what is meant by a prick stitch and find that knee trick ingenious! Thanks so much for your awesome content!

So enjoyed this. Always thought it would be easy for the skirts to pull away from the bodice using just silk thread to join them in those days. Fabrics seemed so heavy. Your dress is beautiful. You must have been in 7th heaven getting to choose your fabric. What a great gift!

Silk thread is extremely strong and in general you'd rather have the thread break if something happens than the fabric to tear 😅

The gown is so beautiful! It's amazing that you were able to hand sew all of it using the period techniques. I think the prick stitch in particular is a really pretty stitch

It is, makes for such a gorgeous detail especially if used on a solid fabric dress

@@sewthroughtime oh definitely! I have yet to make something using that stitch but I really want to. I’ve got a few hand sewing projects for summer so maybe it’ll come in handy!

Gorgeous! What a delight to watch the process from it's start as yards of beautiful fabric to the finished, fully constructed gown.

That brocade is stunning! I loooove silk so I would be insistent on it too 😂
I’m teaching myself to hand sew bc the skill has amazed me since I was a child, and this is really useful in helping some of those concepts and stitch uses “click” by seeing them in sequence

I think those old clothes shaped the person well. Even though it is a little uncomfortable, it gives a nice shape to the waist. 😅

It's not uncomfortable at all because everything is made to my body 😊

do you ever get slightly worried when you start cutting that you've not measured right? I always have a little heart in the mouth moment when I first start cutting my fabric

Cutting into anything this expensive is slightly terrifying but I just repeat to myself that piecing is period so if a cut would go wrong I can always just piece and fix it 😊
