    I find it ironic how people like to pose the chicken or the egg question about gasifiers and their operation. Most people that are going to go through the trouble of building a gasifier are going to consider drafting one in a power outage. The point of a gasifier is to be able to harvest and store fuel for energy without gasoline. I live in the mountains and with a bow saw and a 10 lb maul I could keep my genny running for a while. Or even better I could save my gasoline for my chain saw and use syngas to run my log splitter and generator. Either way the person who builds and operates a gasifier is going to be better off than the guy who thinks banks and gas stations will be open when there is an extended power outage or disaster.

    Nice looking little compact gasifier, I built one last December then I built a Imbert design that burns really clean. I'm using it with a small generator and the gasifier runs on yard waste. You mentioned fuel and the correct fuel is the key to getting a good clean gas.

    great question. on Mine I use a battery and inverter to start the blower. Once the gasifier is running the genny takes over and your recharge the battery plus do whatever else needs to be done. You can also just run a small genny to run the blower till you get it started. Thanks for watching.

    wood gas if filtered right and the gasifier is running hot enough to crack all the tar , then it is just as clean as propane. thats why he talked a little about wood prep too. you want the right size wood chunks (to avoid bridging) and dry is key to getting high temps(to crack tar). one of the draw backs is running at high temps(1800 degrees) is most metals cant take the heat and metal will disintegrate.

    I have a series of videos on cordless chainsaws that I tested using a solar power system to charge the batteries. TH-cam gave high ratings to the first few where the Greenworks 40v saw was the winner, but later I found the Oregon PowerNow saw to be a higher performance saw, just with shorter battery life. They don't make DC chargers for the 40v saws, so you need an inverter to charge the batteries from a DC power source but that's getting firewood without buying chainsaw gas.

    Any advice on storing wood gas?
    I've not seen many people do it, but when they do it's kept at low pressure. I guess a well ventilated area is best (CO poisoning risk)...
    I've seen WWII era photos of cars with it being stored in big bags on the roof. (The bags need to be big to be useful because of wood gas' relatively low energy density.)

    Very robust design. Could have that thing roll down a hill and be able to be up and going. Some people just need to know that if you have this. You are going to have three options to start and then utilize it's output. A man can't video every option. Just worked with what was handy. The FEMA gasifier is not a bad starting point, but Ben Peterson built on that knowledge with a lot of hands-on experience, and published "Wood Gasifier Builder's Bible". I would recommend that anyone considering the basic FEMA build, first at least learn about Peterson's work, and decide from there.

    • @brendenokane4000

      From what I know, there can be problems if the syngas isn’t filtered properly. There are tars and moisture that comes out as a byproduct of syngas production, and those can be filtered off in a variety of ways, but it needs to happen regardless. If not, the tars can cause the engine to seize, and the moisture can corrode parts.

    apparently it works but its WAY more realisitic to run a gasifier on a car. not brilliant mileage but considering cars in my country are often ran on propane (including a few on my channel as well as my daily drive), I think it'd probably be my best stealth option. cops would go nuts seeing a gasifier but not a propane tank they assume is filled with propane but actually filled with woodgas.

    You need to do a more concise video to show exactly what has been accomplished here. I am not a nay sayer because I know this technology works, its worked ever since before WWII. Joseph Maximus has a very valid question about running the blower when there is no available electricity. Would it be common sense to have a battery back up with an inverter to power the 120 volt blower to start the system? Having a longer video describing more of your operation also stops people from asking stupid ass questions and wasting other peoples time. Anyways nice job. I would axe the yellow paint though and paint it camo or forest green. Just my humble opinion.

      Pyrolisis oil is a high cetane fuel, like diesel. So perhaps you could filter the oil and use it in a pilot injection engine and change your fuel filter very often. However its not the same reactor design (FEMA gasification) as the DIY kit here.

    • @sigglass2183
      @sigglass2183 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pyrolisis is the process I want to do. You know how pyrolisis works right? I think you heat the biomass and it gives off a flammable vapor. So you use a filter somewhere in that process to clean the gas? Then after that you can now put it in an engine. If I am wrong then can you please correct me? Can I send you a link of two videos I found that talks about pyrolisis?

    And there's another thing! What I cannot understand among all these wood gas enthusiasts is why nobody has tried turning the stuff into gasoline! Its actually not that difficult. The Fischer - Tropsch process need a pressure of around 5 atmospheres (car tyre pressure plus a bit), and a temperature of 300 degrees centigrade. As feedstock it needs carbon monoxide which is what woodgas is mostly composed of. Discuss please

    • @Delta9Philosopher
      @Delta9Philosopher 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jared Maxwell Not exactly. If you heat wood to a certain point you can get it to degas, and then you are left with charcoal. But the temperature changes what gases come off, and also changes the content of tar and creosote that will be deposited into whatever is using said gasses. Look into making charcoal, it will help understand the process.

      He doesn't, and likely can't. "Wood gas" is a mixture of gases like CO, H2, and I don't know what else. Each of those has a different temperature at which they are liquid, and H2 would have to be cryogenically cold, or under extreme pressure, or both. Wood gas can still be compressed, though.

      Yes. Compared to a Drizzler gassifier, it was a VERY dirty flair.

    Hello Sir I have been watching your Channel for quiet some time. If I'm not mistaken you and southernpreper 1 have started this business called practical prepers together. Does practicalpreperscom have its own youtube channel? If so let me know I would like to subscribe.
    Thank you for your time

    I honestly feel this is could be great use for storm clean ups being as much as 80% of debris from homes after a disaster is wood - If several LARGE trucks or a convoy could be brought in to process all storm wastes lets say like after Katrina and immediately start bottling the gas and tar I know it would save millions on cleanups and also be better for the environment compared to landfills. Why nobody is aggressively studying this potential is something I don't understand. Unless its simply the Oil Lobbyists keeping it unsupported

    be really nice too...

      Respectfully, I disagree. You'd probably have to get a permit to gather wood, or fund an environmental impact study to ensure the loss of termite food did not jeopardize the food chain. I exaggerate only a little. I was talking about heating with wood and really did get an objection about that, and I own 50+ wooded acres, not in California.

    4500.00i is not a bad price if it repeatably produces clean wood gas. don't expect that from those chinese units, they are junk. I would recommend that if someone feels they can do better, start a company and build them for a lot less.... I'd order hundreds from you if you can actually build a unit that makes good gas, quickly, using soft wood chips... that's what i currently run in my system.

    This is a downdraft wood gasifier, period. It is NOT imbert in any sense. It will not generate high enough temps to crack long chain hydrocarbons, thus you will be sending tars to your engine and eventually tar up the valves and the engine will fail. Pull it apart to untar it and "start over"- I think not. This is nothing but an expensive FEMA downdraft wood gasifier. You need to go back and understand the chemistry of producing a tar free product. Waste of money!
