Been eyeballing these for about last month. Thanks again Derek!

I used a Suunto unit over 20 years ago and was incredibly accurate. Highly recommended.

Agreed. There are good reasons why Suuntos are the defacto standard analog cave survey instruments. Well built and accurate most of the time.

I also have OmniSignt and OmniSlope.
Both have the same mechanial issues (defects) noted in this video.
The user guide suggests to use both eyes when measuring. But if I do so, the reading will be off by about 5 degrees, depending on which eye is used to read the numbers. So I always use one eye and hold the device approx 5 inch. away from my face.

I contacted Brunton about this issue but my message went unanswered.

I love my Apple IPhone! It’s got a GPS and a compass app 😁, I just don’t think I’d waste that kind of money on something that’s outdated and has defects. If I pay that kind of money for something, I expect quality and expect it to last!

Almost seems like that inaccuracy mentioned could be a "feature" to adjust for magnetic declination? You need more than 4 degrees of adjustment though.

Got a cheap chinese side lens capsule, it will do 1° readings as intended
