Fished the Whirlpool lots of times as a young man whilst on fishing holidays from England, caught many King Salmon the biggest touching around 30 lbs great times and one of the best fishing venues in the world for Salmon, Carp and Trout..oh to be young again but at 68 now that walk got the better of me on the way back up the hill...Mike Gloucester UK.
Mighty for sure . Thanks for including the month of the year, you listened to your subscribers.
videos keep getting better and better and so much information on lures, gear and locations. Great place to be in WNY !
Hello.
I wished to be with you at this shore. Nice to see what a joy you have and thank you for this Video.
Greetings from Northern Germany
This guy is always positive. Love it. Great skills and always in a good mood. Must be all those Salmon biting! ;)
Great fish! Glad you didn't put the last one to waste.
Keep up the great work Ivo! as a Fort Eriean it's always lovely to see others having fun on our beautiful waters!
Hi IVO . . . Two very nice Salmon and so huge sorry about the second fish which did not make the release - I have to agree with you on the best times are in the fall to catch fish that's when I enjoy fishing the most -
Kings love that sting eye down here in Wisconsin and illinois. Got all colors but best producing one has been the gold one.
Adrian Perez just bought two of each in size 4. Caught my pb on size 3 last year 26lber
Been watching u guys for 5 yrs.
...that's outstanding!! Thanks for tunign i and hope you are able to enjoy many great days on the water :)
I seen that fish jump behind you and I started shaking. That's just so much fun.
“That was a trophy right there”
Dang right ❗️
Great video
Doesent take much to catch a trophy fish i guess since they are considered trophy when they are that small...
I fish the other side!!!
It's so funny, we look and see it's greener grass on the other side 😆😆😆😅
Right, there are a few spots that look amazing
That's a lot of fun. I wish I was there with you. Just to see you do what you do. I've been watching you for a while and you are a very good fisherman. I'm impressed I have learned a lot watching thank you for he info.
Hello Ivo. I was fishing at Port Dalhousie on Wednesday and had a chance to meet you and talk about fishing. Watching some of your videos fishing for salmon at the Whirlpool. I would like to try that but find the thought a bit intimidating even when you make it look so easy. It's a three hour drive from the London area but I'll keep watching and maybe I'll work up enough nerve to try the Niagara River. Hope your wife's guilt show and your trip to London was a hit. Also I deeply appreciate your generosity. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching and maybe we'll meet again. Thanks again. Dennis
...it was great meeting you Dave and loved the fishing stories you shared with me - so glad you are having many great days on the water and enjoying retirement, just as retirement should be enjoyed :) :) :)
...sorry for the typo Dennis...meant to say Dennis not Dave......
Salmon fishing is one of my dreams awesome video
Awesome catches.
Well done great video What a Beautiful Day
Love your videos
great video ,keep going awesome catch
I’m new to your channel. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Tight line!
Ivo ! Big van of you're videos and lures. Great job always keeping those lines tight! I'm very interested in buying a few of the stingeyes. Would you recommend using that for steelies and browns down on the river or mostly just for salmon? Appreciate any help or advice from yourself or any viewers , thanks! 🐟
...we catch tons of steelies on the Stingeye - here is just one of our videos (we have many) th-cam.com/video/KMqJyvsXE7c/w-d-xo.html good luck out there :)
Beautiful fish. Love your videos. Subscribed.
great to heave you on board Eric and welcome to our family of subscribers - Good luck on the water :)
Probably trying to jump the falls by now,
Good video
Hi Ivo. So I’m on the Buffalo side of the river and I went to Art Park in Lewiston. There they have a platform set up that protrudes into the water so you’re casting 20 foot from shore really. I was using spinners and spoons but to me it seems that the water was moving to quickly? Do you have any advice on how you would fish that spot ?
....with such strong current, try a heavier lure, such as the size 6 Stingeye or something similar.....otherwise, you can also bottom bounce a roe bag, again, using a heavier sinker. Good luck - that is a good spot you are fishing :)
Well done, great salmon! I can really see that Spinner as a good option here in the tropics, in the Amazon for peacock bass. Its for sure piranha-resistant and I think even great in murky water. Might even catch tarpon in the estuary. I don't think they are sold here in Brazil right?
...not in Brazil yet.....another great option for Peacock bass is the Top Water MoJo Macky :)
Nice video Ivo as usual. Big fan for your video posts. Have a question... Niagara river fishing for salmon and lake trout open year round?
..Lake Trout no, but salmon yes :)
Fished the Niagara river yesterday. Mid September. Spend 12 hours and didn’t catch anything. I lost 4 stingeye spinners getting snagged on rocks. Saw a lot of salmon’s jumping, but no bites. I am planning to go back next month. Do you have any recommendation on not getting snagged on rocks and loosing the lure.
count down till you feel bottom, then be sure to fish above that - example, if you hit bottom after letting your lure fall 10 seconds, then next time, start reeling in after 8 or 9 seconds - I will try to include some tips in a video some day :)
Do you recommend braided over mono for the lower niagara river such as whirlpool?
Yes I do - however, be sure to use a mono or fluoro leader of at least 18 inches in length or longer...do not tie braid directly to your lure as the salmon can see the braid - this is why you need a mono or fluorocarbon leader - good luck out there
Was this filmed this year? I heard hardly any salmon are running in the niagara yet and not much going on at port dalhousie either as far as I can tell, so pretty impressive you got two. Hoping things pick up this week with the colder weather coming, water temp is still pretty warm so hopefully thats why it is as slow as it is.
Brandon Botham was filmed this year. Asked him same question. I have gone out about 6 times for Kings between NYPA platform, devils hole, Canadian side of whirlpool and no luck! I hooked up with one but he got off after a 2 min fight. Hoping cold weather brings em in
...yes,...this was filmed this year, mid Sept, about 3 weeks ago :)
Ivo, how is the salmon fishing in November on the river?
jerzcnate
It’s still pretty good but the lakers, brown trout and steelhead will be in too. So you never know what you’ll hook
Bravo 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
are you using any swivels to connect your main line to the leader ?
I use a uni-knot to tie my leaders on - here is a short video showing how I do it th-cam.com/video/Aw5hl0Lynlw/w-d-xo.html
@@thundermistlures thank you sir. God bless you!
What spot is this at in the niagara river? I'm in the area and would love to check it out!
looks like hes north of the whirlpool. lots of trails/access
I seen a video of man going fishing there. One's you get parked it's like a mile walk down to the river. But if you get a chance to go there you go. Because that is a great spot to fish. Make sure you take some swim tails baits with an assortment of lead head jigs and you should do pretty good. Have fun now and good luck. Go get them.
Its good to see a girl that likes to fish. You go get em girl. I wish you the best of luck. There an assortment of fish there. Depending on the time of year. Go the your nearest sporting goods or to someone who nose the river and they will give you some good advice. Like I said go get em girl.
...this is the Niagara Glenn, but it is much easier and there is much more room at the Whirlpool :)
@@thundermistlures thank you very much.
I can’t believe you aloud to fish the river for salmon when they start to spawn they close fishing for them
Could you help me with some fishing spots I live in the. Niagara falls region and am going on a fishing weekend with my father any tips on places where to go or where you were
if fishing the American, and fishing from shore, I would suggest below the Art Park, or the whirlpool.
I see you already have 2 great spots suggested...only other one that I could suggest is Port Delhousie - good luck :)
Love the stingeye but I keep catching bottom when I go to the whirlpool 😑
...I like to count the number of seconds it takes to reach bottom, then take a couple seconds off to stay in the strike zone, but yet out of snags :)
If u walk halfway down the bay to the left, I count a solid 10 seconds after cast then begin slow retrieve. If your right in front of the path, I count to maybe 5-7. Haven’t lost any sting eyes since I talked to ivo about this!
@@thundermistlures hey thank you some so much for the tip I'll have to try that out
What is the Stingeye Spinner thought or made to emulate?
Nothing it just annoys them
with the big eyeball, and related flash & body, it is intended to imitate an injured baitfish :)
@@thundermistlures Appreciate the replies guys! Thank you. Looks like it works whatever it imitates :)
Do those Salmon eat or are they biting out of anger.
early in the Fall, they could still be biting, but generally speaking, as the season moves on, they are more interested in spawning as opposed to eating
I tried the Niagara this past weekend and had no success I threw everything and didn't hook anything do you have any advice.
...need to get down close to the bottom, into the strike zone :)
Thats what happens with light gear and warm weather.......salmon stress
Wish I could be there but age is against me making it
...give Port Delhousie a try - great fishing and easy access :)
Fishing with Birkenstock’s on? That’s a new one.
Thats like hunters shooting prey in the butt just for fun...
Don't try that hike up that hill if you're over 60...
