I had an interesting fouled prop. Motor sailing yesterday arvo. Then, the port engine lost propulsion, and made a funny noise. I'm lucky I have outboards and can Tilt up out of water. A big sea snake caught on prop. Crazy😮

We had a bit of technical difficulty with those shots. We actually filmed 10 minutes of video but only had about 35 seconds of usable footage. We are still learning...sorry!
Nice work fixing your little snag. That's a great deal on the hookah rig. I'm on Chesapeake Bay. If I have to dive in the summer a Lycra skin suit protects from the Sea Nettles.
you need to get a harness to attach the hose to. It don't take much to rip the second stage out of your mouth. It also prevents excessive biting on the mouth piece bits, so you dont have to replace them all the time. get a filter system for it also. A BC (buoyancy compensator) is good to attach the hose to and also attach weights to get down
Hi Guys! How about investing in lycra full body suits and hoodies for those stingy water bugs? Run between $30 bucks on up, all I ever used in warm waters, easy on off, and comfy. 😀

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize that being you have sail drives and not just straight props it would be that complicated or expensive a modification. Having the little " Hookah Breather " is a great convenience. It must be great to use when cleaning the hulls as well. If this is Linh have you ever thought of putting on a splash of perfume while Teal is using the Hookah and wafting your scent into the air intake, Hehe.

As someone who has captained boats around RI, I've definitely gotten rope caught up in props. You are so lucky it was just fishing line. Usually it's ancient rope from lobster pots that is drifting below the surface. so it could easily tear a seal on the stuffing box. That said, I'm surprised it was such a big deal, implying that it hasn't happened before. Maybe it's an east-coast thing? But this is a once-a-year issue for most boats that go out on the regular.
We have sailed the entire west coast of the US and Mexico and Have had one person on watch at all times. This was definitely not our first and certainly not our our last encounter. The west coast is riddled with crab pots in the north and as you travel south you will see hundreds of fish traps, lobster pots, and long lines daily. In Mexico the markers will be anything from a legitimate buoy with flagging to a clear coke bottle that is nearly invisible. Most of the time it's the coke bottle.

I was about to say you need a .....then you said get out the dive hookah. I'm surprised more live aboards don't carry one. They seem super useful for checking and cleaning the hull. And what you used them for.
You are right about that. This one in particular works great for Emma and I. Teal has to take shallow breaths for it to work for him. Overall, we are so happy to have it onboard.
Adolfs Meat Tenderizer, rubbed on the area stung by jelly fish, stops the sting instantly. Always carried it on our boat back in the day. The active ingredient Bromeliad is the secret.
We installed a small viewing port adjacent to our propellor - as we did a lot of coastal cruising it really proved it’s worth in assessing entanglements and planning their removal. We did have to make a conscious effort to keep it clean however …
Now if this was the TH-cam version of " Sweeps week " this video would have gone viral if for some reason the only way to do this was while you were underway. SV Basik volunteer would secure to a cleat at the bow and gradually be winched to the rear of thehull with the fouled sail drive. They would be wearing full face mask with internal LED lights so we can see her and speak to her. Yes, it was Linh who volunteered for this dangerous maneuver. For her own reasons she chose to wear the same outfit worn by Jacqueline Bisset in the 1977 film " The Deep " in her underwater scenes . Linh did it for the team and the views and because she knows she can pull it off with class. Oh and the reason they have to keep going full speed on the Starboard engine is because they are being pursued by a pod of angry Orca killer whales. Apparently some viewer ( Me ) suggested dropping waterproof firework explosives over the side to run them off. It only served to enrage them.
Wow, only 7 hours since this video was released and already over 6.4 k views and 1.4 k likes. I put it towards word spreading there was an angry Booby in this video. haha. That......or you are all just awesome TH-cam Rockstars.
Just a suggestion...why not purchase a set of headphone walkies-talkies so you don't have to yell instructions helm to bow or to onboard line handlers from the helm when docking or mooring?
Don't go overboard without a lifeline attached to you teal.. anything can happen from an allergic reaction to whatever ..you had air here to breathe but just think of the what ifs and nots. I'd say , by the looks of things , your lucky crew is enjoying the good life quite more immensely than you in paradise since they didn't have to deal with any jellyfish.. just think about safety first everytime anyone has to go overboard and I'll feel way better next time... The whole idea is to know you are having as much fun as ever while staying as safe as possible in the ocean 🌊 for as long as you're on this once in a lifetime vacation (.even if you do get stung by a little jellyfish or two) . it's those bigger ones that pack a punch you gotta look out for or a sea snake..at least those little boobies arent gonna get you 🐍.. lol.. take care , glad everyone including little compass is well. ....till next time !
It's the worse feeling when you can't pull it free from above and have to dive on it. We have had some friends who have gotten tangled up with lines and as they are trying to get free, it would pull on their shaft and start taking on water.

Use vinegar on Jellyfish stings helps kill the stings let it dry on then wash it off with fresh water.

Not this year. We are currently heading south to Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Panama first.
