- This is PART 2 from the month of June 1975.
It was still possible for a local racer reach the Big Show in the 1970s. Ivan Baldwin did just that. His short feature in this program indicates he was well known in these parts and didn't need much introduction.
Speedway 605 & Orange Show showed remarkable cooperation in bringing racing opportunities to Southern California in the 1970s. Rules and scheduling helped the sport spread. Tracks were 45 miles apart.

WoW remember my young years of racing with this racing circuit at 605 spdway, OrangeShow, El Cajon, Saugus, etc with the likes of the Beckers, Baldwin, McCrays, Esau, Irwin, Funkhauser, and more. REAL door to door hard racing in those days. Thanks for the post.
That was a good stretch of racing years.
As a 9 year old , I remember Ivan and Rick Becker, along with Rusty Sanders... Bakersfield Speedway was a great time for a kid !!!
Memories. Very nice.
My dad drove a 1958 ford race car at orange show in1972 his number was 545 it was a lot of fun
Fabulous! Those were different times and fun was easy to find.
Ivan was the best fabricator/driver i ever knew. The only other person that i knew that could build a car as good as any fabricator and get to the track and drive as good as any driver was Ron Hornaday jr.
Yes, Ivan Baldwin was very good at what he did. I wonder, did they call his approach "old school" back then? We would today!
@@haroldosmer9803Maybe. I do know that in the 80s i had a old Winston west car 112" he built, over the telephone he gave me the set up for Stockton 99 speedway. My first time there and we did very well with very few adjustments.
