Before and After: Schindler PORT Elevator Modernization

- [Featuring Streetcar1743] Welcome to the Hilton Ballpark East Tower in St. Louis! This will be a bit of a long background, but it is worth reading.
When this tower was originally constructed, 3 Westinghouse elevators were installed. These elevators were quite small, very slow, and extremely overcrowded. Many years later, when Hilton bought the property in the mid 2000's, they decided to modernize the elevators. Hilton called in Schindler, who replaced the fixtures and controller, but pretty much just left it at that. The overcrowding problems didn't get much better. In 2009, the decision was made to construct a rooftop restaurant on the top of the tower. This meant adding another floor on top of the building and putting even more strain on the already overburdened elevator system. So, since the elevators had to go up another floor, Hilton decided it was time for a real overhaul. Hilton made a wise move by upgrading the controller to a Schindler PORT system, basically a new version of Miconic 10, which allows users to select their floor outside of the elevator and assigns them to a cab. This is the best way to get the most out of a bad elevator system. They also installed new motors to speed up the elevators a bit (although I didn't notice at first during the video since I hadn't ridden them in quite a while). The first modernization was pretty crappy, but this new one is fantastic! My only question: Why did they get rid of the LCD displays? Follow me on:

Hey I heard from Streetcar1743 on Facebook that they recently got rid off the PORT system and modded them again into conventional elevator system. It's such a shame that they've got rid off the awesome system :(

Minus the painfully slow announcement of floors in Handicapped mode, I like this new system. Nice sleek new design.
Now you need to shoot a before and after the port. The before is the port and the after is the new normal elevator system.

The mod was complete, it's the software that actually isn't, and it's considered a "finished product".
We'd never expect any more from Schindler anyway. :)

Your speed comparison feature was very cool, but not sure what this tells us when I've seen car speed vary even within the same elevator system. I'm tempted to make my own speed comparusion video to demonstrate this :-)

You know the ones at the Marquis in NYC? It's only a matter of time before these things show up there....
As a blind guy, Schindler PORT kicks Miconic 10 all over the place, as the voice is actually understandable. Dieselducy has a video where he thinks he's riding a Miconic 10, but now I know it was a PORT.
I must say this is QUITE an improvement. I don't hate the new interior but I like Tim said it belongs in a Ski Lodge or a Great Wolf Lodge or something. Overall I think this was a fantastic mod!
I miss the LCD display. Glad I got it in time.
Those interiors are horrific. They look like they belong in a cheap ski-lodge.
Thanks for introducing me to the PORT system. I had never heard of it. That sign in the lobby is really cool. Maybe Hilton has partnered with Schindler to get PORT into their hotels. It seems like that marketing they created for the lobby can/will be mass-produced.
@ElectroMecca voice is a generic Schindler voice (in the cab). Not specific to Miconic 10 or PORT, used in normal Schindler elevators as well.
your right. just minimum to modernize and leave the parts that still work.
Have the other towers been modded because that would be a cool experience to see their original westy elevators but it would also be cool to see destination dispatch

To me the voice was sort of a tip off to Miconic 10, but I give like 80 thumbs up to their old hall panel when compared to this new one...

GUESS WHAT!??! According to Patrick Richmond, these were modded AGAIN by Schindler, no longer PORT because people didn't know how to use them and they were so dumb they didn't put up signs, so this place wasted some more money on a modernization!!!!

@jaymietreadwell I agree, but the Ireland Kone EcoDisc voice works even better for me... some other US Schindler voices not bad either...

That, and the fact that these controllers are nutoriously buggy.
When I was at the Marquis in NYC, the only time a high-rise call was accepted, was using the low-rise side. Sometimes, they never worked. I almost took the MPE up 30 flights.

@georgef551 then replacing the controller will finish the mod. strange for the elevator to vary like that.
