The system didn’t fail him. His “brothers” failed him.

As a Maori, my hearts goes to the kids who are born to these types of whanau. My father is a true east coast Maori, hard af worker, an amazing husband, father and koro. Im so grateful I grew up in a loving household. Turn away from the ganglife, there is a much bigger legacy you can leave behind 🤍 These gangs wont be visiting you at the ururpa when your gone, your kids will and surely you want them to think the world of you when your no longer here.

Do you think the system let him down - “ definitely”
How about taking responsibility for your own life and not rely on the “system”

Many of these people need the system to provide support for growth and change through therapy and utilizing tools. It's about breaking cycles not pointing fingers, many of these people have been born into hardship and are surrounded by risk factors.

A mixture of both, they still need support outside of their whānau trauma to help them pivot and lead happy healthy lives.

Not necessarily, how many men die from same thing but who do work hard and grew up in great middle-class houses. Depression doesn’t care what race, how much money you have. 😢

Our mental health system is 💩 short staffed, without resources, and people wanting help but not wanting to do the work. It takes partnership between the client AND service. Therapies, counselling etc is not a one stop shop, you have to want to change your life. One love whanau ✌️

Suh a dismissive comment.... I've recently lost a family member to suicide, he saw his gang as family as he hadn't had much support through life. He was a beautiful person. People , I can only imagine, must be absolutely rock bottom and desperate to take their own life - it's not the easy way out, it's just a very, very sad situation for that person and the people who love him and are left behind. It's just not as simple as you are making out.

2 of my brothers committed suicide in 2020 & 2022 neither of my brothers were gangstas, neither of them had gone to jail, the first who took his life was on meth. Where my brothers ate concerned the family support was there, the mental health services were there but besides trying to say my brother was suffering from a P induced psychosis they didn't know what was wrong then decided to give him a pill for psychosis, a pill for depression, a pill for bi polar and I pill for anxiety which I thought the pills all at the same time, considering what they were for would of fugged him up more than anything or been pointless cause wouldn't they cancel each other out?! Personally I think gangs and drugs play a part for some but not all if anything they want some bullsheeit to stop and death seems to be the only thing that works to do that 😢 I hope and pray all suicide deaths find the peace they wanted from life in death 🎗 #FukSuicide

Looks to me that you need a system to allow people to relocate miles away, and start over. Where there is a level of protection. But then you get Maori activists saying you are taking them away from their families.
The gangs are now too big to break up.
And only going to get bigger as the gangs are recruiting people younger and younger.

There has to be gang members that can communicate with their members on issues like mental health Whakawhanaungatanga financial issues & the hidden histories of Indigenous People’s World Wide, suicidal tendencies in my opinion is all about fear, a fear that comes from the Colonial System through English a Spell Casting Colonial Matrix Program commonly known as a language.
