I regret buying this camera

- In today's video I talk about the one time in my photography journey I had camera buyer's remorse and it cost me allot of money. Is it really time to think long and hard before we hand over the cash or CC? A fun photography gear buying lesson with a true story and lessons learned along the way.
and btw, not that the camera was bad that I regret buying it but the fact that at the time it was allot of money and I had similar cameras for a fraction of the price. The IT factor for this photo camera was not there for me.
Big lessons learned. Be very mindful on your next camera purchase and also watch out who you associate yourself with and who you give your time too hence the rant in the beginning. I will never ever give my time of day to opportunistic selfish arrogant pigs specially in the photography community. These people suck up to the next person just to get ahead. F em all.
Enjoy.

Those obsessed with upgrades have blessed me with their many times slightly used leftovers. I have several of which--the D4 is my favorite. Buyer's remorse works for me! Thanks for a humorous look at this issue!
hehe. "i'll take this thank you very much" . "ohh your not eating this, well well well" hehe
Your best point, get out there and use the gear !! Rock and Roll !!!
and sadly. i bet some just dont use geat just buy and look at.
I'm still rockin on the D3100 but I plan on jumping onto a used D5500 and then eventually the Z-series cameras.
There's a rule that I go by though: "Never upgrade until your current gear breaks."
"Let time, not the market control your choice" Dose not get any wiser than that IMHO! Merry Christmas everyone.
I never regretted buying a camera. I only regret selling one, a Pentax LX that I used for more than 30 years.
i have many stories about sellers remorse.
Words of Wisdom .. thank you, Vahagraphy !
thank you Terry,. 6th old fashioned now. lol
Thank you for sharing & well said as always .
I think we all regret some of our camera purchases , fortunately I haven't spent thousands on any single camera , but I have spent a few thousand on a collection of Nikon cameras & lenses , I haven't bought any mirrorless because of the cost , my top camera is the Nikon D800, all of my older Nikon DSLR cameras are like old classic cars , they all have a place in my photography including all my lenses , the cameras I have are the Nikon D 50,70,100,200,300,7000,7100,800 I also have all the main lenses for all of them , all that might round up to a Leica ?, what I do know is I much rather have all my cameras & lenses then just one Leica camera , my cameras bring much joy to my life & I'm really pleased that I bought them , but I do have a few camera acquistion regrets insofar as buying a D7100 , selling it for a loss because I think that I have too many cameras ,then changing my mind again & repurchasing another D7100 , I have done that a few times with cameras and lenses , but I have to say that hopefully all that is behind me now at 61 years of age & I'm very content with what I have fingers crossed !, I think that all the buying & selling is something a lot of photographers go through , I think it's all part of the fun of photography & having the experience of different cameras .
Another common factor is looking back on jpeg files of sold cameras & lenses & thinking , gee why did I sell that ?.
At the end of the day within reason the viewer will never know what camera or lens took the picture , Leica ,Nikon , it's like a Rolex or Casio watch , they both tell the same time , for me the joy is photography & my camera collection .
I'm sorry about the big hit on your Leica , at least you've had a Leica , another way of looking at it is that generally selling & buying camera equipment is a little bit like camera hire , I take comfort from that .
On a final note I looked at mirrorless cameras , I didn't like the viewfinder , it was like looking through a video camera & it just didn't connect for me , I need real time & actual real light as the camera becomes a part of me & not just a tv screen , that's for video , I guess that it's all going the same way .
No regrets here, still rocking my Fujica ST605... XT3,XT5, Z6,Z6ii and GFX100s
nice
Good stuff. This is an important message and what people need to hear about gear and photography. The only "upgrade" I've made that was really worth it is picking up a Z8 in addition to my D850. I actually prefer the files from the D850, but the Z8 has allowed me to change the way I interact with my subjects, which is something I had really wanted to do. The video capabilities of the Z8 are also well beyond my current needs of talking head interviews and real estate listings, but I have them if and when I need them.
Hi Vahagan! I am certainly familiar with buyers remorse both as a customer and a seller. I used to work for (and shop at) Circuit City. Fortunately, I have not recently had that feeling with photography gear. I HAVE purchased equipment I wasn’t in a good financial position to purchase. Fortunately I spend a LOT of time researching the gear. I didn’t enjoy being in a tighter financial position, but found the gear delivered on what was promised by the manufacturer AND was needed for something I was tryin to accomplish. Those two things blunted the displeasure of having to juggle some things financially for several months. Still I acknowledge, it is best to make good financial decisions even for things that are needed (though not an emergency). The most recent purchase was a Z6iii. I have the original Z6 (which is still working well). Having said that, the improved AF performance, addition of subject recognition, expanded video options, and elimination of the 30 minute record limit made it a good upgrade.
how you been Greg. Long time no talk my friend. thank you for being here since day one. i truly appreciate it. really i do my man.
Homie straight up got Halloween 4 in the intro! Best one in the series. 🎃
yup. hey man. you seen the trilody. Halloween Kills fire scene, bad asssss man. the way it was shot.
I regretted getting the nikon df for all the reasons listed in the video. But 10 years later, i came to really like it.
bro the Df is so sought after now. how many times I here people say I want a Df. keep that camera.
btw that sensor is one of the best.
I seldom have buyers remorse, BUT! I always have sellers remorse! For example. I have sold and repurchased the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 D twice as well as the Nikkor 24mm f/1.8 G and guess what! I'm planning on buying the 24 1.8 again, for a third time!
You are very selective about the cameras you buy. I learned that about you. you dont pull the trigger until you are certain, good gene to have.
Good video. Spot on. I sold all of my wonderful Nikon DSLR gear to jump into the "wonderful world" of ML. To sell my 2 to 3 year old ML gear and get back into even a used Nikon DSLR system close to what I had I would lose my shirt and then some. I still may do it. At my age I can not take it with me and if I would be happy for the next 10 years why not. I am not a working pro even though I did make some good coin back in the day with weddings and having images published. Now days it is just fun but with high tech gear that has options I will never use or need and with the different software to process images; well, I don't know. Gosh wish I was 50 years younger and just took a roll of film to the kiosk and enjoyed the time I had with my camera.
No one is being taken advantage of because people CHOOSE to keep buying gear, with a few exceptions. When it comes to a company with over 17 recalls, the EasyBake oven FF, the overpriced and hyped $3000 4/3 camera, etc. NEVER had buyer's remorse because I have respect for myself and my money. I did not keep a studio piece, yet it only cost me $200, and I gave it to someone. If we do not know these companies are basically selling us dreams and scams, then we are not thinking logically. From film to mirrorless, we still take the same basic sets of pictures and use the same series of lenses. WE heard YT content creators babble on for the past 10+ years about te so called death of film and DSLRs, about how 4/3 is just as good as full frame, watched people fake 'rolling shutter' while they shake the camera, etc, etc.. To top it off, how many regular folks really know nor care about the differences between Leica/Nikon/Pentax images? For the self made and entitled holy 'purists' , less people care then you might want to know. Then they head to the mall or club and take pictures with their IPhones and laugh when you tell them you spent $4000- 9000 just for the camera body...
but to answer the question: I have a bit of buyer remorse getting into Sony system (A7C+28-70). If I knew what I know today, I would go used at the time.
yah,. its a part of life man. Be lucky it aint no car or house. lol
I think one of the big losses to accept are on trade ins of Nikon DX bodies (except d500 more or less as they are holding prices as high as possible).
2 rounds of trade in this year towards. Got much more on (1) than (2)
(1) Early March 2024. D750 and cheap Rok. 14 2,8, MF. and Sony a6300 with a Mecablitz, Sigma 16 1.4 and 6 middling E lenses.
(2) October 2024. D7200, D7500 AF S 17-55 G 2.8 and 3 other DX lenses. Got little. It was fuss to trade in at that no. famous NY store.
Am happy all FX -D810, Zf, Z7ii for personal general use. I am not quite worthy of some very good gear.
Excellent video, Nikon, Sony, & Canon are in the business to sell cameras and lenses more importantly make another product to sell you to get rid of that "old" camera.
Well I bought the z9 on per order and was not impressed so when the z8 came out I sold the z9 and bounced the z8 them the zf and I like the zf better than the z9 or the z8. I am from the film error. The zf reminds me of my F3 any way go video, and thank you aging for not screaming in the into.
JIMBO!!!!
Jw. what was wrong with the Z9?
@@Vahagraphy 😀
@@Vahagraphy my local camera store couldn't get Z9s in from Nikon. He has to always try to find the rep at the conventions, the Rep would always seem to slip away. I think Nikon had more manufacturing issues through the covid time. I knew people that waited forever to get them. I would like to hold a z9 see how they feel in the hands compared to a Sony a1 & Canon r1. I've held the a1 but not the r1 or z9. For 99% what I would do any of the 3 would work fine. I knew I would like a 100-300 2.8 for sports that lens looks sweet and to have that range.
I purchased a Fujifilm GFX100S and a number of lenses. While I loved the output of the GFX, it was so much bigger and heavier to lug around, but most importantly, it meant that I had two totally different camera systems, not only lenses, but also chargers, batteries, flashes, etc. This got old over a period of months, and I eventually sold the Fuji system off at a loss. Lesson learned.
I equate a lot of the new cameras with Microsoft programs. We all use Word, but we do not use all the many features of it. Same with cameras. How many of us use the full potential of the camera? I have been using vintage Nikons lately like the D4 or D200 CCD camera. I am sticking with DSLRs and I get great photos and I focus on composition. I'm older now and don't need the latest and greatest camera.
Unfortunately MS programs do not have any new compelling features. Mirrorless cameras do have some features that will give you more keepers for certain types of photography especially over the D200. The D4 is worlds above the D200. The noise and limited DR on the D200 leaves a lot to be desired. The IBIS and enhanced focusing on mirrorless are major features. Nice thing about cameras over MS programs is there is lots of value in used gear.
I’ve only ever had buyers remorse twice with camera gear.
1. XH2S - it felt so cheap taking it out of the box I thought WTF have I done. I love the camera now but its autofocus and dynamic range really suffers.
2. Canon RF 50 1.2 for $1931 USD brand new all inclusive and I just felt ripped off for the first time few months. It was just an obscene amount of money to spend on a lens. I did buy the 24-70 2.8 RF first with the R5 but that was with money I made from selling gear. The 50 1.2 was straight out of the pocket. I own it and I love it but I did buy a 50 1.8 RF because after a long day at a wedding you need to take a step back and drop some weight.
3. The RF 70-200 2.8 I wouldn’t say I had buyers remorse but I had the RF 70-300 L and I feel like it was a double up. I also absolutely hated the white lens hood. So I sold it and bought the 14-35 F4. Now there’s a black 70-200 I may buy it I don’t know.
what can you do. part of learning. i'll tell you the amount of stuff I bought and sold. lost allot of money. the middle man made a killing off me. we live and learn.
A CAMERA IS A CAMERA JUST AS A WATCH IS A WATCH.
gotta love camera battles.
The Nikon D600 and D610 cameras were the biggest duds that I ever purchased. I hated these cameras.
OIL on sensor bs,
@Vahagraphy And bad autofocusing in low light.
I love my D700 😛
cult classic.
I will stick with my Nikon D3. It's the brains behind the camera and not what you pay for a camera. All the greats can take award winning pictures with a disposable camera. Reality hurts.
One of my recurring topics with students is buying. Buy right or buy twice? Not always the right rule. I focus on use case. Sometimes the needs of a task requires a feature or capabilities your gear does not have. Rent if you need it for a one-off assignment. Buy or lease if it's a career choice or market requirement. Concentrate on need and capability and not dwell on "potential." If you don't do video, then nothing in that section of the spec sheet matters. If you need in-camera flash management, so some research, and rent a few examples of the gear you may buy to see if it's up to your expectations. Nikon keeps doing stupid things with marketing, but their flash exposure control is reliable. TTL flash is the main reason I have stuck with them for my indoor events.
Use case should steer your gear choices. Buy what you need and will use regularly. Don't buy more just because it's there. Most of the time the problem is in the meat not the metal. So the most important upgrades are always to improve the photographer so they can use the "potential" they brag about in their gear.
I got all the pictures/videos and mileage while using the particular camera. The re-sale loss is how much all those photo day trips were.
typ 240?
No real regret for cameras, limited my spending on those relatively.
Biggest regret was an LED light that was gigantic , wasn't as powerful as I was hoping and at this point has been surprised mightly for far less.
how much you pay for the light?
@@Vahagraphy ~$1700-$1800
All the Canon pro cameras I used for work hated them, never worked right and Canon speelights suck big time!!!! Got all Nikon with in 1 week!
canon skin tones ? whats ur take on this.
@ images were fine no issues skin tone ok . I only used it for news papers
Guys do the same thing in the archery world every year a new bow comes out and they lose their ass and it's not that much better.
its crazy how theres a group for every facet of life.
My biggest regret was buying the D7000, probably 12 years ago if not more, I had 2 D2x that got stolen, got a D2Xs second hand and then found the D7000 second hand at a decent price, it was so bad that a few weeks after I sold it and got a D3x, never looked back
By the way I am still shooting with a D850, unless Nikon brings out a MF Z camera not upgrading for another few years, maybe Z9 or Z8 when I will be able to find one second hand for a bargain price, on the other hand I am still super happy to shoot with my Df and my collection of 40-50 years old lenses.....
Buy once and cry once ! So buy the best you can afford and keep it for a few years
yup
No buyers remorse here! Still rocking my Z6II! Camera store would only give me $1k trade in value towards the newer Z6III and I said I'd think about it and walked out 😅
I have a Z6ii it is a great camera, but the Z6iii is what the Z6ii should have been. The Z6ii focusing did limit the bird in flight photography. The Nikon DLSR's I had used in the past were better.
Sounded like a fair deal, looks like you maybe get $1000 for it on eBay and they take 16% or so in fees, plus shipping hassles and dealing with a buyer you don’t know on the other end. Was that for the Z6III body at the new sale price of $2200?? Do you just pay sales tax on the $1200 difference out of pocket for the Z6III.
I probably would’ve done the deal but I have a lot of “G.A.S” 😂
@brians.1357 It was when they just started stocking them, and they were selling body only around $3k if I remember correctly. With the price down a bit now, I may reconsider, but my Z6II is still working fine for what I do..
good on you behulk, Some of those wholesale middle men are like snakes. They prey on desperation and take advantage of people. F them man. i hate them
Great intro. Love the message.
thanks bro
I feel bad about acquiring camera gear until I look at the neighbor’s $50k boat that sits under a tarp 9months a year and then I don’t feel so bad 😁
haha thats probably a drop in the bucket for him.
You betta watch out, you betta not pout, Vahagan Claus is comin, to town. Sing along with me!
🎅👍
hahah lol
Leica Ms are range finders not mirrorless. I still own my Leica M 240 as well as M10p. I own Nikons which are my work horses. No buyer’s regret with my Leica Ms both film and digital
The economy doesn’t help…
Nothing happening by 3min in so left.
so what did you think about my intro skit? lol
100%
@@VahagraphyBeyond appalling, dull and pointless!
Who you ranting about bro?!?! Inquiring minds want to know 😅
lol all i will say is i’ve learned who to spend an ounce of energy on and who are just a bunch of opportunists and can take a hike. no more promoting bs people that will turn their backs on you.
Man that beginning rocks. Good job.
z50 was my biggest regret
Z50 II is my first Nikon and truly my first Non regret. Auto focus is unreal and my dominant eye isn functioning correctly so this camera took away all of my frustrations with all of my other cameras including a new Lumix full frame that absolutely refused to focus on a few birds a meter away.
Billy. I'd love to know why?
@@Vahagraphy because it was flimsy and plasticky compared to the d7500 Wich has the same sensor
Always buy online, you have way better returns policy on online purchases
at the time Leica was very strict on returns. im telling you. I tried everything to get out of that 15 percent bs
Yes I have Gas
let it out lol
6 mins in, still rambling, goodbye...
lol bye bye
Just my humble opionion but when cameras were handmade mechanical devices there were differences, today the very nature of electrical manufacturing, means things are going to be more similar than different. Electronic components are mostly made in the same factories and then used by companies like Canon, Sony and Nikon and even Leica. If you go back to the days of VCRs there was 20 different brands but they were all made by two companies. I would bet anything if you tore apart a camera from Canon, Nikon and Sony you would find much of the electronic componentry is exactly the same. Just wrapped in a little different form factor. Same with Leica
can we go back 100 years. or atleast 50. where all we had was a landline. you go out and you couldnt be reached .
