Y'all keep hugging that ONE jump... lol. Question is, has he CONSISTENTLY been able to make the jump, year after year? No. Matt's a good LJer but not a great one. He knows it. That's where all the money is at. Not the LJ, unfortunately. Dude should've stayed there and the 400... Bought his own hype
@@ThaSpeedsterZ The jump was 'indoor' meaning no wind or outside forces. The reason he never focused on training the LJ is because of the higher risk of injury and the 100/200 is the more alluring event. Landing wrong in the long jump or sticking the plant foot out at takeoff could be a season ending injury. Considering he has only jumped minimal times and trained minimal times because of that, it might be time to focus on what he always was best at - that being the LJ. You all always say 'great white hype' , how about respecting one of the best long jumpers in the world and not even focusing on it rather than bring race into the equation. However, when your argument hinges on paper thin substance and abnormal subjectiveness I guess the only way to add any weight to what you say is to try and bring race into it.
Boling does not have to run another step to be a legend at the NCAA level. He peaked earlier in his career. So what? @@vernonfrance2974 Never said it was or that he's lacking in any way. I'm merely confused as to why this video is titled "He's finally doing it." What exactly did he do to prompt a video is what I'm wondering.
Matt Boling has no Chance at making the USA team in the 200 meter. A slim chance at the 400 meter.... The USA is stacked in the 200 meter. Even with Noah Lyles not running (automatic qualifier as the Defending World Champion)
He needs to move on from college and get with a team of coaches that can get him right... mainly his head... needs to shake the pressure and expectations of others.
@sophry7556 His forte is business and he doesn't need to be a world beater since his name recognition from his outstanding successes over a very long career are fine - especially since he represents the outdoors equipment companies and not track and field. @@vernonfrance2974 I wouldn't complain if he left for greener pastures. But, I think he still has something left to give, in some capacity.... he has the rest of his adult life to be a prominent businessman, but you can only compete for so long in T&F.

He only beat Laird and Fahnbulleh once or twice each and they have not had much success against the best. I don't expect him to be on the podium in Eugene this weekend so continuing on beyond his last year of eligibility in the NCAA's next year, unless he has a great break through in 2024, does not seem to be a propitious use of his achievements, time and intellect. Maybe he'll make it in the 400m? In the 200m ? He'll have to be wearing rocket powered shoes or break his personal best by .5 . I think a sub 19.7 to make this team.
Bolling is an indoor runner/punching bag. By the time outdoor comes, he's blown everything on a long schedule of indoor meets. He drops a couple of notches each year as he goes from indoor to outdoor. Is it a limitation of ability or a fatigue problem? That may be revealed when he's done with college, BUT his outdoor resume so far indicates that he is unlikely to be a force in outdoor track beyond the NCAA level. Nice, disciplined kid, but likely not the future of American T&F.
Boling has absolutely no shot of making the 200m team. Even with Lyles not running, who is he going to beat to make the team ? Knighton ? Kerley, Bednarek ? Norman looked terrible and only ran a 10.3 in the 100m at the trials, but I’d still not bet on Boling beating Norman in the 200.

I still think his best event was the LJ. Anyone with his speed and with far from optimal training (he was focused on the 100m/200m) jumped 27'+ has a real shot at Olympic medals. I mean that jump right there would have gotten him bronze at the previous Olympics. None of his sprint PRs would have gotten him into the finals in the last Olympics. I think they are focusing on the wrong thing.
Y'all keep hugging that ONE jump... lol. Question is, has he CONSISTENTLY been able to make the jump, year after year? No. Matt's a good LJer but not a great one. He knows it. Hence, he does it once ina while and not outdoors, all last year.. Nor has he even done it much in past few years. Also, you guys gassed him up to think he was the great white lightning at 100/200.
400 m definitely
So.. what exactly is he "finally doing"? Finally not making the team?
Boling does not have to run another step to be a legend at the NCAA level. He peaked earlier in his career. So what? He's beaten nearly all of those who have competed against him in the NCAA's at one time or another.
It's possible he may have a nagging injury that we don't know about but I believe he has already reached his prime which is NOT a crime.
@@vernonfrance2974 Never said it was or that he's lacking in any way. I'm merely confused as to why this video is titled "He's finally doing it." What exactly did he do to prompt a video is what I'm wondering.
Matt Boling has no Chance at making the USA team in the 200 meter.

@sophry7556 His forte is business and he doesn't need to be a world beater since his name recognition from his outstanding successes over a very long career are fine - especially since he represents the outdoors equipment companies and not track and field.
I think he should NEVER go pro but could compete in his final year of eligibility next year at Georgia.
@@vernonfrance2974 I wouldn't complain if he left for greener pastures. But, I think he still has something left to give, in some capacity.... he has the rest of his adult life to be a prominent businessman, but you can only compete for so long in T&F.
@@sophry7556 I believe your comment is very fair and reasonable. I am just afraid if he tries to compete against the top athletes beyond the NCAA level he will not have great results.
I hope he surprises me but I think that anything other than marked success will give his detractors the pleasure of putting him down while they continue to ignore how outstanding he has been at the high school and collegiate levels.
@@vernonfrance2974 Thank you Vernon, but if he lives and competes for what others think, then he's already in a bad place mentally... that's why I said he's needs a team that can also work on his mind, along with his training. But, you're right, the field isn't getting any slower; so he'll need to "move quickly" on his decision and choose the right path and events. These college athletes are over raced and that's why they don't do well at the US trials. They're great amongst their college competitors but mediocre against the professionals.
Unfortunately, although I root for Matt, he's been running slower than he has ever run since probably junior year in high school. Don't know why he's regressed so much, but he needs to improve dramatically to make it past the first round in either the 400 or 200. Hopefully I'm wrong.
He has won 2 National NCAA Championships since high school.
