It is so nice to see you enthusiastic about your plans for your fish focus! You mentioned Heterandria formosa in a video a few months ago and I became fascinated by the idea of them, I finally managed to get two pairs last weekend! I love them, so tiny and cute. I have set up a nice planted tank for them and am crossing my fingers I will be able to get four or six more to start a little colony. Not easy to find in the UK! It has also opened up to me a whole new world of rarer livebearers that I never even knew existed! Thank you for all that you do for your viewers :)
Thank you for taking back your fishroom, from TH-cam and your store) and making your fishroom YOUR OWN again! It's been showing for awhile that breeding fish and doing projects for others isn't working for you, Cory. I started watching your Channel when I found your old fishroom updates on Wednesdays...and of course Taco Tuesdays. lol. lately you haven't been interested enough to do those long fishroom updates, which you so excited even to just purposefully breed convicts and you had five different live barers, some where the rare kind from Greg Sage in Denver and you never made more than two videos on them, same with the Liberty/ Mexican mollies you got from him... That's what I want to see... The in depth Cory McElroy hobbyist fishroom updates and projects. Then the Store tours and unpacking videos for the Aquarium Coop store owner Cory, because the unpacking videos of multiple fish and plant species most hobbyists and fish keepers never really see that part. lol. But YES. Take back your hobby and I will be more than happy to watch your long videos. 👍
I love the Corydoras Barbatus, and the Dumbo Ear Guppys! I wish my LFS had them! Since the shoutout that you gave me, I have +40 subscribers! Thums up Cory!
+Jamie MacDonald mollies were the first fish I ever bred. It was an accident and totally changed my life not just hobby. Here I am owning a fish store because black mollies bred.
hi Cory yes the dripping tap works I'm from Canada and this is used most often in old houses that don't have any wall insulation to keep the pipes from freezing in the winter time. depending on the temperature you may have to run it considerably faster for it to work
I totally support what you are doing! If anybody can make guppies and under-gravel filters cool again, you can. It was awesome to hear the enthusiasm in your voice and I can't wait for what's next!
I know this is rather late in the day, but I just found this post. The angel fish in Corey's tank look very much to be Pterophyllum leopoldi. The spot at the base of the dorsal fin is diagnostic. P. leopoldi also have a pronounced nuchal notch but this is not the case with these specimens. Really good to see this often overlooked species in an aquarium, and in a setup suitable for its needs.
Another great video thanks Cory. Very interesting. And good to hear that your new years resolution is to slow it down a bit and focus on what makes you happy. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from the UK.
Another great video!! I think i pause each video at least 5 times to go fix things or rearrange things in a tank thanks to your videos. Im glad to hear your getting back to what you love doing. I think a lot of us get sidetracked and away from the things that got us into the hobby in the first place. Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life :) Happy Holidays
a slow drip does work. In Vegas where i am the pipes and drip systems are only 2/3 inches below the ground. So dripping the faucets when below 32 is a must. where u r is different but when it gets real cool it works.
Wild caught angel fish @ 2:59 have amazing metallics as you mention! Is that a typical trait with wild caught angels which tends to become less of a feature in later generations once captive? I've just never seen metallics like that in real life on an angelfish before but don't think I've seen wild caught ones (or even close-too) either
Just hatched a few hundred albino corydoras this morning...! Woohoo...!!! Keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!!! PS... feel free to send me anything that you "don't like or enjoy"... hahaha...
excited to see livebearers! Also the drip will avoid freezing for sure; we did it when i lived up north and had -40 for weeks sometimes, though it also increases the chances of a frozen and plugged drain but at your temperatures I am sure that isn't a risk.
love the videos Cory. I know we'll get far more out of you channel if your doing stuff you love. I look forward to spending more time with you in Your fish room.
The dripping water slows down the process but doesn't stop it. Eventually the water will freeze unless there is enough flow of above freezing point water and that dripping isn't enough.
Hey Cory, teeming the water works. Not a wives tale. Lived in Maine with several feet of snow every winter, it works. Another helpful hint is to teem it outside away from the house. Maybe wrap your outside tubs with your styrofoam you get from deliveries. (Maybe cut into brick size for your odd shapes). We do that to protect our potted plants (roots). I know this is last winter...but ides that may be helpful.
Hi Cory, another great update - keep 'em coming. I feel I need to point out that Corydoras Barbatus have been reclassified into the genus Scleromystax, so now they are Scleromystax Barbatus. Although having said that, everyone I know still refers to them as Corydoras, I guess old habits die hard eh! If they were spawning in one of my tanks I'd be trying to save all the eggs I could, they are a relatively uncommon species in the UK. Keep up the good work :-)
+Delboy Heath yeah, much harder to say and no one really cares so I use the common name. The scientific name is already in the video tags in case someone was looking for it with the scientific name.
cory i had a question on wether i should get skirt tetras in my 20 tall. in it all i have are 3 long finned zebra danios. and 1 regular danio. if i cant get that fish could you give me some suggestions. thank you cory!
Wow, great series, I just watched all 37 of your fish room updates. They were great. Congrats, it was great to watch the room for the beginning. What's next??
Love love the teacup platies! Been obsessed with them since I saw this video earlier today. Doin all the research on them! Unfortunately there's not a lot of info I can find on them. A new bucket list fish!
Aquarium Co-Op any tips for keeping them? My water is super hard, like in the 7.8-8.4 range. Water changes help keep it down but it's always going to be high. Also any tips where to find them?
man I'm still amazed you can keep those koi outdoors all winter with the pond being above ground. Makes me wonder if I can pull that off here in NY. -14 is insane cold for anywhere! Keeping the water dripping pretty much works the same way as the bubbles in the koi pond. The moving water wont freeze as easy but of course could freeze eventually. Something about the molecules moving doesn't allow crystallization. I'm sure people would still watch the daily dose......even if it was a 30 second timelapse of your 8 hour day at the computer!
+Rich's Fishes thanks for the explanation. Yeah if it actually goes negative 14 I'm worried about the pond. But I have ideas... I'll have to film em :)
my grandma does that every time it gets really cold so yes it works. Also if you don't and if your lucky the pipes won't burst but you'll hear noises coming from the pipes when you turn them on the next morning.
Hey cool video, I actually have been really into breeding Cory’s For a couple years now and have been able to develop what I believe to be my own strain… For me it’s very cool to try to come up with new ones. I’ve got it down packed to being able to get them to breed in two days from whenever I decide to… I’d be interested to know what your methods are in comparison to mine. I’m in Massachusetts, not sure where you are but always like comparing notes with other breeders... my daughter named them purple sunset Cory’s .. they are a purplish brown with orange gills and back
Moving water doesn’t freeze. That’s the idea behind the drip. However below zero temps need more of a stream then drip. The water bill is worth not having to replace the plumbing.
I'm late to the game (only by a little) but should you stay away from areas on a lake near an inlet or an outlet? If course. The moving water makes for thin ice.
Your question about the water dripping to help prevent from freezing; I have heard that it will make it worse if you do that but I've only heard that so I do not know for sure. And if you get the corydora barbatus to breed successfuly with a high fry survival rate you should sell them on you website because I think me and many others would be interested in buying them.
I'm guessing demand for Barbatus cories just went up around the globe. I love those Angels... I still like the wild look the best. I remember when it was 12-15 degrees when I lived there - everyone said it was unusually cold. Minus temperature!!! Yowza!!! Yes, the dripping water can prevent freezing or vastly slow it down - do you have pipes directly exposed to outside weather? Hose bibs or pipe insulation on outside pipes can prevent freezing too. Inside pipes are ok as long as you don't let your house get below 30 degrees.... not bloody likely with fish in the house. Wow!-Thats a dream job!! If only I was closer to retirement - I want to move back to Seattle then anyway. Did you see the articles (yes-plural!) on Rice Fish in Amazonas a few issues ago?
love your vids. Can you recommend tank mates for a male betta fish? I've tried Google and asking pet stores but I never get the same answers. My betta is a pretty calm boy.
Cedric Quesada Great I will try that. I have tried one fish before but that fishes started to attack his fins so I had to seperat them. It's a 10g tank. How many do you think would be okay to get?
the sponge one you have in all your tank in your garage that have a air hose to whit bubble come form the mitle of it , I both a large one from the internet.
hey cory I heard on a live stream you have bred desert gobies before. I fairly recently I got one he seems happy and is being fed but I want him to thrive. he deserves it what else do you think I should do for him he has a sand substrate a big log with nooks and cranies but is there anything else you think I sould do more for him? I can't really find live food in australia but I can get freeze dryed bloodworms
hey cory did you get a chance to play with the new Fluval Flex series ? I was looking to buy one this week. Do you have any good/bad reviews on it ? thanks
hey ... just got a new aquarium for a month or two so and i have 2 grey cory and 3 white ones ... a few days ago one of the grey cory's went and put some of the eggs on an egerya densa ... not 5 seconds passed and she eat the eggs ... is that something to worry about ... i took them as baby's so i think is because of it's her first hatch ... what do u say ?!
The dripping water thing normally works, but it depends on your area, basically if water isn't moving through your pipes it will just continuously get colder where it sits until it freezes. water flowing through it will add new heat to the pipes it runs through, with the water itself being warmer than what was there. so as long as the ground doesn't too cold and you flow enough water to defeat the constant leaching of heat from your water, then you should be fine. the colder the water coming in is the more water you have to move to keep the pipes from freezing, otherwise ice will slowly build up on the inside. it doesn't really take much though, just keep an eye on that water flow, make sure it doesn't stop or slow down. Make sure there is no stagnant water in any place, water moving through every pipe that has water in it. On a side note, I wonder if you could strategically place flow or pressure gauges somewhere in the piping system to help watch for this becoming a problem.
Week it's not quite a creek. It's a silt trap or pond with brown water at the bottom of my street. It has life though! Hundreds of mosquito fish and loads of eels. And gets quite warm in summer
I wish I could send you my guppies. I bred some green iridescent ones and some endlers but they are getting moved out. it'd be cool to see what you could dod with them.
Hi ! Nice vidéos ;) I d like to know If there is any "risks" of crossing/hybrids having Pygmaeus Cory and Black together in the same thank.... By the way, with any other "big" cory for the Pygmaeus... All the best ! Nicolas
I know I'm a little late on this but the water deal does work but it should be a last resort. Here in Wyoming it's -20 and we run rental properties, the biggest question mark I say on the drip method is be mindful of your septic system. The slow drip can freeze your sewer lines if they run horizontal above ground at all be careful it will freeze. If the sewer lines go underground you'll be fine. There is a lot more to it but that is a quick basic for normally warm areas.
Cool Vid. Always nice to do stuff your into versus doing what others want you to do. If live bearers is what you like then that's what you should be messing with the most. They are interesting fish. I only own the wild variety of Green Sailfin Mollies and they are pretty neat. Breed like rabbits. Can't wait to see you breed the new endlers love them little guys.
I haven't found any mollies that truly catch my eye. Have seen a few guppies though online. To buy or not to buy lol. Don't care to order fish in winter. Only thing stopping me right now.
My two corys literally just laid eggs as I watched them, I had NOO clue of this happening I thought I had two males and not prepared for it and they are everywhere.. They are the only two fish in this particular tank and I had a snail in it but took it out because it was wanting to eat them.. I guess I’m just going to let them be and see what happens and hopefully I can get some frey..!!! 👍👍👍
agitation of the surface will keep water from freezing to certain extents. The colder it gets, the more you have to agitate to avoid a freeze. it just adds mechanical energy to the system to replace the heat energy lost.
Cory good luck with getting your fish room back to where you can enjoy it! I love the rainbow tiger endlers i can't wait to see what you do with them. Hopefully everything works out for you! 😃
My Red Wiggler worms arrived crushed. I salvaged what I could. I buy my fish from my local pet store, never Walmart. I've bred Cory, Platy and Molly. I love Tetras and Danios. I am looking into a native tank, fish from the Adirondacks in Upstate New York.
As far as the freezing water Google - latent heat of fusion - they use it here in Napa to keep from loosing the bloom on the grape vines. let me know if you want to sell the any wild Betta.
Hello, I am new to Chiclids and i have a empty 47 gallon tank. How many fish can get in this aquarium? In what tempeture do they live? Can someone tell me everything about Chiclids?
can you pleaseeee update on those goldfish in the big tank ? Pretty pleaseee !!! (*secretly hoping you will have a go pro by Christmas for under water footage*)
Don't stretch yourself too thin , just do what you enjoy and show us, we will watch it.
+marcusallenp thanks :)
marcusallenp qq
After seeing your videos on how much time and work goes into shipping fish, I don't blame you one bit for reassessing.
+JT Brock I just don't want to disappoint customers and I'm afraid if I get too short on time I will. Thanks for the support.
So I'm watching this 4 years later and poor Corey seems just the same now stressed out about what he can't get done. Enjoy your fish Corey please!
Yes, the dripping tap to stop feezing works. I do it in our horse field, with the trough tap. My father and bro are plummers.

Yes. Its real. We do that in MN. A slow trickle will keep the pipes from freezing.
+Laura good to know :)
Yes. In the last place I rented, it was mandatory to keep the trickle (actually, a stream the diameter of a pencil) going all winter.
I love the Corydoras Barbatus, and the Dumbo Ear Guppys!
I wish my LFS had them!
Since the shoutout that you gave me, I have +40 subscribers!
Thums up Cory!
+Danny's Aquariums awesome, glad to hear it Danny.
I want to! But I can't find C. Barbatus!
Came a long way since 40+
I loved the news that you are going to focus on what you enjoy, especially because it's live bears, my favorite.
Those are such neat Corydoras! Love them!
Nice ! I didn't know how much fun it is to have fry. My Molly having fry change my entire hobby. I am now looking at things totally different
+Jamie MacDonald mollies were the first fish I ever bred. It was an accident and totally changed my life not just hobby. Here I am owning a fish store because black mollies bred.
hi Cory yes the dripping tap works I'm from Canada and this is used most often in old houses that don't have any wall insulation to keep the pipes from freezing in the winter time. depending on the temperature you may have to run it considerably faster for it to work
I like the "old school" fish room update. Great job! Looks like you're having a good time again.
Those are the coolest Corydoras I've ever seen! O_O
I'm the coolest Corydora you've ever seen!
I see what you did there.
SO glad to find this gem cory... Love this channel!!! Not fan of RFT anymore... And thank you for it all!!
I'd love to see you breed the mystery snails, snails are so much fun to watch
I totally support what you are doing! If anybody can make guppies and under-gravel filters cool again, you can. It was awesome to hear the enthusiasm in your voice and I can't wait for what's next!
Bringing cool back! 1 undergravel and guppy at a time!
Hi Cory.. excellent tour.. wow you are busy. I hope you can save some of the corydora eggs.. good luck.
+neilhy thanks for the support Neil.
Cory, take care and totally agree with following your passion! Stay positive and always enjoy you vids! Family first...
+RescueDogTreats thanks for the co times support :)
Cory- follow your passion & what you like...thanks as always for another excellent video. Looking forward to live bearer updates.
I understand how you feel that's why I am going to concentrate on mollies and swordtails have a great holiday and enjoy your family
+David Bellman share some on the home show so I can see when you do it :)
Ok, sweet Cory's cory and congrats on the rice fish eggs
a slow drip does work. In Vegas where i am the pipes and drip systems are only 2/3 inches below the ground. So dripping the faucets when below 32 is a must. where u r is different but when it gets real cool it works.
i know the feeling. i've got so many projects going. It's not what I can get done. It's what can I put off.
Yeah, it is a bummer when you don't want to put any of them off!
I feel like i haven't seen them with that much metallic myself before either. So who knows.
absolutely love the Cory fish, will definitely get some of them for my tank. Thanks so much Cory.😃
8 hour livestream on Christmas?? Nice! I'll try to stop by for a bit.
Yep, Should be some good fun.
I got the same endlers from L R Bretz your fry food works great. Any advice on frozen food for them
+Joseph Pinkston I like frozen Cyclops for endlers.
Cool I will try them thanks
Great in depth shot and video piece of the Corys. ...and Great in depth video this time.love it
That panda guppy tank is incredible. I love livebearers as well. I'm thinking about getting a colony of halfbeaks for breeding.
Just hatched a few hundred albino corydoras this morning...! Woohoo...!!! Keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!!! PS... feel free to send me anything that you "don't like or enjoy"... hahaha...
I am trying to find where it says its going to be negative 14. That makes me happy but i dont see the report anywhere =(
Is that 14 below (or minus 14) in farenheit or celsius. Hate being picky but it is minus or below, saying negative sounds weird
Lowest I found was 22F. Thats not that cold... (he said from sunny Rose Bowl country 64F right now)
excited to see livebearers! Also the drip will avoid freezing for sure; we did it when i lived up north and had -40 for weeks sometimes, though it also increases the chances of a frozen and plugged drain but at your temperatures I am sure that isn't a risk.
Does any one know what the wiggly white fish in the top right corner at 18:13 is? Also the wiggly fish at 19:16?
Thanks!
love the videos Cory. I know we'll get far more out of you channel if your doing stuff you love. I look forward to spending more time with you in Your fish room.
when it gets really cold in our house we leave the faucets dripping and it makes a world of difference, especially in a multiple story house.
The dripping water slows down the process but doesn't stop it. Eventually the water will freeze unless there is enough flow of above freezing point water and that dripping isn't enough.
jashelps especially if the air temp is lower than freezing
yes and wrap any outside or outside wall pipes or you can use straw
+Ryan Osborne yeah, I believe all the pipes are insulated, but I should check again.
Aquarium Co-Op you also use straw around the footer on the outside
Yep, we have water drip in WI. every year to keep pipes from freezing. -14 is normal here a lot of the winter, lol ⛄❄
what keeps all the algae off your plants? in the first tank the cory's or the snails
Those are barbadass fish, lol love the living room tank very cool.
I see what you did there.
Hey Cory, teeming the water works. Not a wives tale. Lived in Maine with several feet of snow every winter, it works. Another helpful hint is to teem it outside away from the house. Great video!! I have a female barbarous sitting on eggs right now just waiting for the magic to happen :)
Enjoy it, don't make it a chore treat it like a hobby and not just work your fish will be happy and so will you
Moving water doesn't freeze.I lived in Fairbanks for 20 years and there were rivers that ran all winter even in 50 below.
Wow, that's impressive.

Well danios are pretty active, so are skirt tetras, rasboras, maybe some of the barb family like cherry barbs etc may be good choices.
Wow, great series, I just watched all 37 of your fish room updates. They were great. Congrats, it was great to watch the room for the beginning. What's next??
Good move. Letting the water drip works. At least in Minnesota it does.
Love love the teacup platies! Been obsessed with them since I saw this video earlier today. Doin all the research on them! Unfortunately there's not a lot of info I can find on them. A new bucket list fish!
Yeah they aren't common at all. I fell in love with them about 7 years ago. Missed them ever since I had gotten rid of them.
Aquarium Co-Op any tips for keeping them? My water is super hard, like in the 7.8-8.4 range. Water changes help keep it down but it's always going to be high. Also any tips where to find them?

Hey Cory, do you trim the long stems on the dwarf aquarium Lily's? Mine is growing great and shot up stems about two feet tall
+Ryan McCullough I don't, I like the Lillie's on top

I did see those articles in Amazonas. I was sad to have found them so early and not get them to show them to the united states before Amazonas :P
SAVE THE EGGS!!! Hahah Love me some Cory's :D
love your vids. Can you recommend tank mates for a male betta fish? I've tried Google and asking pet stores but I never get the same answers. My betta is a pretty calm boy.
Wolf Lilld maybe some neon of cardinal tetras and some corydoras? I had never problems with that combination.
Cedric Quesada Great I will try that. I have tried one fish before but that fishes started to attack his fins so I had to seperat them. It's a 10g tank. How many do you think would be okay to get?
Wolf Lilld ghost shrimp are the most common recommendation i hear of you're interested in shrimp.
block5178 oh I am that would be really cool!!! Thanks so much =^.^=
yo one question here your mech filter that you run whit a air pump for the big filter what size pump I could use for one filter
Which filter are you specifically talking about? I'm not sure I understand.
the sponge one you have in all your tank in your garage that have a air hose to whit bubble come form the mitle of it , I both a large one from the internet.

+buringfyra can you get frozen blood worms? They prefer to eat off the bottom and freeze dried float typically.
yep I can find them thanks!
Amazing video
we get -10 at least a week through winter every year. one year -30...... the _snow_ was frozen an inch deep...
hey cory did you get a chance to play with the new Fluval Flex series ? I was looking to buy one this week. Do you have any good/bad reviews on it ? thanks
I haven't put my hands on one yet. I hope to early January.
hey ... just got a new aquarium for a month or two so and i have 2 grey cory and 3 white ones ... a few days ago one of the grey cory's went and put some of the eggs on an egerya densa ... not 5 seconds passed and she eat the eggs ... is that something to worry about ... i took them as baby's so i think is because of it's her first hatch ... what do u say ?!
Im planning to buy corydoras. Could i use methylene blue for their quarantine tank?
People do use it, I personally dont, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
Thank you 😊
Another 8 hour stream?? YESSSS
On a side note, I wonder if you could strategically place flow or pressure gauges somewhere in the piping system to help watch for this becoming a problem.
hey Cory. Is it safe to take plants from my local creek and stick them in my tank? Do I have to a quarantine the plants? If so how do in do it?
I'd say mostly safe, but most plants from a creek, want very cool water and tropical temps tend to make them melt.
Aquarium Co-Op true. If I took some duck weed could I slowly acclimate it to warmer water?
Week it's not quite a creek. It's a silt trap or pond with brown water at the bottom of my street. It has life though! Hundreds of mosquito fish and loads of eels. And gets quite warm in summer
I would love to have a huge breeding room of just guppies and bettas. Lots of varieties of both.
I want to do some more mollies down the road.
I haven't found any mollies that truly catch my eye. Have seen a few guppies though online. To buy or not to buy lol. Don't care to order fish in winter. Only thing stopping me right now.
COLLECT THE EGGS! OH LORD PLEASE DONT JUST LET THOSE GO!😄😧😄
That's what I told him Neon.
Save The Eggs 🥚
Where is your store located? Do you supply silver hatchets?
Edmonds, Washington, We have silver hatchets, yes.
Are the making pair or the go for all
wow -14 that's almost like summer for us canadians
Your website says you don't ship live fish? You have some I would like to get
My two corys literally just laid eggs as I watched them, I had NOO clue of this happening I thought I had two males and not prepared for it and they are everywhere..
+Gaming With Fitz awesome. Thanks.
Cory good luck with getting your fish room back to where you can enjoy it! I love the rainbow tiger endlers i can't wait to see what you do with them.
Hopefully everything works out for you! 😃
I hope so too!
When you say you have to pull that one out because you don't like the colour what do you do with the fish ?
Hey man I dig your vids. Enjoy your Holiday season. :)
Thanks for hanging out with me Eric, Happy Holidays :)
Can't wait for another snowmagedon
Here in Idaho, we're having the most snow in 20 years!
Would an Aqua One Ocellaris 400 and a resun Hf 2003 hang on be ok on a 25gal
I'm not sure, i've never used those before.
Them tiger endlers look awesome. U should cross breed with guppies. I bet the fry would look beautiful..
+John's Aquarium tiger endlers already are crossed with guppies :) I plan to keep them looking like that as I think they are awesome.
See your always teaching me something.. lol
can you pleaseeee update on those goldfish in the big tank ? Pretty pleaseee !!! (*secretly hoping you will have a go pro by Christmas for under water footage*)
+Teni Teni I'll try and shoe em off more in a video soon. I have an underwater camera already too :)
