I’ve got 2 Meyer lemon trees I’ve had for years. They are both the size of your small one. The root ball is about the size of a cantaloupe. They both produce large quantities of lemons.

One on the left is a rooted cutting and you know the other. I like both. Just depends if you want a bushier tree or one more tree like. I run a citrus page dedicated to growing citrus in containers.
I've noticed that my smaller trees have done better than the larger ones I've purchased. I think it's because their roots get better established in new soil, idk. They also do better in smaller containers, I think it forces the tree to produce fruit. When I put them in the ground they grow big, but take longer to fruit. I have several in ground lemon and lime trees with no fruit and three small potted lemon trees, probably 2.5 ft tall with about 15 fruit on each one.

looks like the two trees are in different rootstock. The smaller one might be on dwarf rootstock while the Costco one might not be. If you are planning to plant it in a container, I would go for the small one.
@@diyunboxing4545 Try peat moss, pumice, and pearlite to keep soil on the lighter side with good drainage. top off some compost and mulch on top to keep the moisture in.
When I order citrus, I'm more interested in root ball size and condition. If looking for decoration, the Costco is superior but I prefer to keep my citrus short, more like a bush. I do prefer the grafted varieties, if done by a knowlegeable nursery.

as far as lemon trees go the shorter one looks a lot better. they must have them all growing really close together at costco so none have lower branches or something because there's no light

Florida native here... grew up in citrus groves and am a Florida Certified Landscape Designer, for 25 years. The Meyer on the right, from Costco, in nursery parlance, is a "standard" tree. Meaning, it was grown to have a leafless trunk with a central stem (usually 3-4' of "Gray wood" for potting). It looks perfectly fine with a very nice canopy, and will be beautiful with a twin in pots. Thank you for the comparison with your shopping! H Depot usually sells them that size in the $50 range here in Florida. A 3 Gal. pot should run you $25. Enjoy all!
They were both repotted in larger more decorative containers. The smaller tree has already produced flowers, the larger tree is healthy, but not showing any signs of growth despite adding organic fertilizers & worm castings to both.

@@DIYFermentation make sure you use slightly acid soil for citrus. Add sand to your soil to make sure the pot drains well. Also, use perlite to make sure the roots breathe.
@@DIYFermentation "organic" fertilizers take a very long time to become bioavailable to your plant and that effect is exaggerated in container plants. Feed that bad boy some petes 20/20/20 mixed with fish emulsion for your micros and watch it explode. I have a costco meyer lemon just like yours in a 25 gallon pot using miracle grow organic moisture control (all from costco) feeding organic fertilizer and had slow growth until I switched to the real deal. That said I still utilize the organic stuff in all my potted plants for the slow release qualities.

Wow a 5ft tall meyer is unheard of in my area especially if it cost 30 bucks, my 12 inch was 35 at homedepot.
