      Спасибо Юрию Федорову, детскому тренеру, который учил маленького Арвидаса играть не только под щитом, а делал из него универсала. Шарунас Марчюленис тоже тренировался в детстве у него же.

    This guy was explosive when he was young and he was on the national team as a teenager. I've never seen a better passing 7-foot dude ever and was for his entire career.

      @@20000lukas It was during USSR times, Lithuanian team was called "Respublikanskaia Komanda" get your history and terminology right. Soviet player - Soviet national Team, American Player - American National Team. It addresses a NATION which was USSR.

      +Pukis18 Magic didnt play back to the basket, he was a point guard, unfair comparison. Sabonis was a monster in the post and could handle like a guard. For his height/weight that just unreal!!

    I've seen Sabonis playing whit the URSS un Spain when he was 20 years old, and he crashed the table in the trainig round. I was just a child but I never forgot it

Y el baloncesto europeo de los 80 era bastante más calentito de lo que es ahora, igual que pasa con la NBA. De todas formas, Sabonis se reconcilió con Madrid y con el público madrileño poco después, en la semifinal del mundobasket 86. Terminó el partido en la grada, saludando y agradeciendo el apoyo. El hombre no sabía que más que amor al soviet, lo que había presenciado era odio a Drazen.. 😛

    I can't think of any center that had the skill set of Sabonis (except maybe Olajuwan)... As a passer, he's likely the best all time among bigs. He also had a great post up game and could shoot from distance. Some of the most highly regarded centers look pedestrian in comparison. He was past his prime when he came to the nba, and remains relatively unknown in America.. but he's a legend in Spain and undoubtedly a hero in Lithuania.

      How he can be best with 3 asist per game than Jokic who has somethimes even 15,16? :D Jokic is another level of productivity and he has better higlights in only 1 year than Sabonis in whole life :) Modern era, that we can' t compare, today' s centers are another level

    His son Domantas Sabonis is playing great for the Pacers so far his first season here. I remember this guy back in the day. One of my favorites. Extremely smart baller!

    Sabonis was past his prime when he entered the NBA. He still ranks in the top 10 of NBA centers ever to play.

      Top 10 in the nba. Not a chance however if he played in his prime almost certainly would have become top 10 if not top 5 or even higher. Not top at all, hakeem, Ewing, Shaq, bill Russell wilt chamberlain, Kareem, David Robinson, Moses malone,tim Duncan (centre every season outside David Robinson and Tiago splitter), Dwight Howard Wes unseld artis Gilmore......

      @@donalgeaney626 yea I honestly think he could've even been better than shaq, sabas could barely walk in his late 30's and still could score like 20 points and 10 rebounds on shaq, he obliterated david robinson in the Olympics when he was younger and david robinson was already stealing lunch money from shaq, so a center that's 7'3 has a great 3 point shot, soft touch, athleticism, versatility, an he could bench press 500 pounds compared to shaq's 350, he would've made shaq like a little child on the court if he came to the NBA earlier, honestly im proud to be lithuanian and have such a legend born in my coutry is an honor

      napper David Robinson was in college not even a pro yet and shaq never played David by that point cuz that was in 1988, shaq was drafted in 92’. Unless you are referring to 1992 where he didn’t dominate team USA at all. By y’a he was a great player and what if. With all the bball talent from Lithuania however you should be very proud. Sabonis was made for this era it’s such a shame with his 3 point shot.

    При росте 220 иметь такую координацию движений,такую технику бросков и передач это действительно выдающийся баскетболист и самый самый на постсоветском пространстве всех времен!!! И даже предствить страшно как бы он еще лучше играл не будь у него этой злощастной травмы ахилового сухожилия! Он бы на года 3 раньше попал бы в НБА,в пору его расцвета а не заката(все таки он туда попал в 32 года).Уверен что тогда мы бы не Шаком востогались бы,а Сабонисом.И это не Сабонис бы играл против Шак и Робинсона,а Робинсон и Шак играли бы против Сабониса(я думю что многие поняли что я имел ввиду)

    I remember Arvydas Sabonis at his prime in Europe. For helping the NBA fans to figure out what he was.... imagine Magic Johnson in the body of Shaquille O'Neal or Hakeem Olajuwon (actually around 4 inches taller than them).
    Just unbelievable

      Sabonis did play against Olajuwon from 1995-2001. Sabonis won 7 games, Olajuwon won 6. Sabonis had more rebounds and had a higher FG%, 3p% and FT%. If a very injured and old Sabonis could do this to Olajuwon then a young Sabonis is better than Olajuwon, sorry.

    I wish he had came to NBA 10 yrs ealier than he did. At his prime he would have been the greatest Center to played the game. He might be in the GOAT conversation with MJ, Kobe and Lebron.

      Indeed. Many people wonder what could have been. But the Ruskies with their Cold War mentality to win no matter the cost overused him very badly in the eighties. That is what laid the foundation for his future chronic leg issues. Still put up quite a show for a semi-disabled athlete. :D Cannot but bow down and respect the dude.

      you dont know what you are talking about. In NBA each team play 82 games, how come 'Ruskies' overused him? He played more than 82 games? He played maybe a few games with injection, but hey, this is a norm in NBA! Besides, Patrick Ewing had almost same problems at his late 20s. he totally lost his mobility even in 1993, at the age of 30. Maybe the Russkies overussed him, too, though he never heard about it?

      A huge merit in the fact that Sabonis became a universal player, his children's coach Yuri Fedorov. When he came to him as a boy, Fedorov taught him that a center player should not be able to. Therefore, Arvydas can do everything.

    His last season was in Euroleague, local town Kaunas Zalgiris team, he averaged 17 pts and 11 reb and was named Euroleague regular season and top16 MVP being 40 year old. Thats legend.
