    Strangely, i found the Comica pretty good and clear compare to the others where there is too much bass. Depends maybe of the speakers.

    I actually thought that the Comica (the cheapest one) was the clearest. I also felt that the Rode Wireless Go on it's own (with the little deadcat) wasn't too bad either.

      Yeah the Sennheiser and Saramonic needed some help. I think that’s why some commentators think the Comica was their favorite.

    Thank you for this video! Unfortunately the horrible audio quality of the gopro camera kind of kills all the audio coming out of the mics. For future videos may I suggest you use an audio recorder or a camera with better audio! That way we could hear the full capabilities of those mics. Thank you!

    It's kinda comical that I found the $30 to be the best. I also found it interesting that the internal gopro mics sound better than the media mod, it's honestly disgusting that it's required for external mic use.

    • @YouMotorcycle
      @YouMotorcycle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't required. I've been using the same GoPro mic adapter that I bought for my hero 6, on my hero 7, hero 8, and hero 9. No media mod required.

    It is almost impossible to compare microphones without adjusting the level. Is is known that a sound source that is louder are considered to be better. Therefore the Comica that is louder than the other microphones will be judged as the best one.
    Also, the lock mechanism only works if the transmitter, camera och digital recorder has the ability to lock.

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's more to audio quality than loudness. Also consider how clear the audio is and what sounds it is picking up. Some are better at isolating the sounds closest to the mic and filtering out noise.

    • @olledahlquist3784
      @olledahlquist3784 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Gemini_Connect Yes, there are more things than the audio level. However, it is hard to compare when there are different levels of the samples. Trying to adjust the audio level on my device makes me miss the details about how the mic is picking up.
      I use a small audio device that has a fixed volume output that I use so that the audio signal can be adjusted in post. I have used it for many years as a professional sound engingeer since 1971.
      I've noticed that six of 25 comments prefer the Comica - possible because it has the highest audio level.

    • @eco_logic

    • @gunn1ng
      @gunn1ng 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree. A noble attempt, but the levels are all over the place. The proper way to test microphones is to record the same audio segment with all the candidate mics via the same type of device and then level them. We learnt nothing and are kind of left to take the presenters word for it.

    I was watching another review by Potato Jet and something to point out to those that use the Rode Go 2 as an action mic or in loud situations is that the Rode can clip a lot. Examples riding on a motorcycle and talking louder to be heard, DJ playing at a wedding, Bingo announcer, talking loud over the wind. They found the Tascam was better at preventing clipping. Using a Lav mic can reduce this clipping. How have you addressed clipping? You should be able to see clipping on the display on the Receiver as it is being recorded.
    They didn't seem to know how to fix the clipping even though they spent 10 minutes testing the transmitter mic, receiver mic and the Tascam mic. I found this solution online but haven't tested it yet. "You need to check your gain settings on the wireless unit AND on your H1n. If you find yourself still needing to decrease H1n input volume too low, the Rode output is too strong. Turn down the Rode output, and adjust your H1n volume until there is no clipping. Enable the H1n limiter if necessary."
    I see there is a Db button that lets you toggle between 3 levels of output, so maybe they need to adjust that down? You can also use the App to change the Gain from Coarse to Fine mode and then you will be able to change the DB in 10 Levels and it will now display the DB level.
    You can also turn on Safety Channel which will record the audio onboard at a lower level so if you find you have clipping you can use the alternative audio instead. The problem is planning ahead for all possibilities and which option then would be best.
    I also worried about having my GoPro mounted on my helmet, but the receiver not picking up the transmitter below it since it is line of site. With the onboard recording you have a backup. I could also plug a lav into the receiver attached on my helmet and run the wire down to my shirt or helmet strap. I feel better about buying it now that I know I have several ways to approach different situations. That review didn't like that you had to Export the Backup audio one clip at a time rather than Export all.
    Another trick I saw for the LAVs was to use velcro or magnet to attach lav inside shirt so you don't see the mic at all. Works best with thin shirts like tshirts. I guess they sell those options on their website.
    The last thing I learned was you can connect the Rode Go II to your Smartphone using a standard USB-C cable. I wasn't sure as you mentioned the LAVs weren't compatible with both, except one.

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Rode Wireless Go 2 transmitter mics are indeed susceptible to audio clipping in loud situations. It tends to not affect MD much as my voice is soft, but it is a problem for my partner Martin who has a louded voice. Even on the lowest gain settings, he clips a lot. I've seen Potato Jet's comparison with the Tascam, and it did sound a lot better. However, recording audio that way means more work in post production to sync audio with the video, which we prefer not to do.

      @@Gemini_Connect I saw several LAV reviews of the $30
      Sony Compact Stereo Lavalier Microphone ECMLV1 which includes a wind sock and I decided to get that. It doesn't clip and the sound was just as good if not better than the Go Lav.

    By far the Sennheiser me-2 sounded the best on your voice, particularly. It is absolutely not the best value per performance at its price point but in this test had the most dynamic frequency response, least aggressive high end for your admittedly pretty sibilant voice, most rejection and lowest noise floor seemingly. It should be noted in your video though that there is no "best". It's largely situational and voice dependent. What pricier mics bring to the table isn't necessarily loudness (sensitivity), but smaller form factor for better anbility to hide them on talent, openness of frequency response and flatness or options for different caps to allow for different responses depending on whether or not you're hiding under clothes or not and also to allow for more options in post.

    Question and comment.
    Question, did you feel the sound quality from the lower price units was better than the Wireless II's built-in?
    If you felt the $99 wasn't quite as good as the $70 Rodes, then it would appear to me there is no reason to buy the $99 mic.

    • @Gemini_Connect

      Good question. I thought the wired lavs did give out higher quality audio than the built in mic. Not a dramatic difference, but when combined with the fact that you can better hide the wired lavs, that's a case for going that route.

    I had to come read the comments because my initial hearing review listening off a TV Soundbar with subwoofer that I use with my 50" TV was almost opposite your analysis and it appears that it had more to do with different sound leveling than with the quality.
    I also thought the Comica was the best because I could hear you the best and it hid surrounding noise. If someone hadn't pointed out that it punched your S sounds more I would have picked it. But then when I turned up the audio on the other LAV mics to the same level I heard the S sounds just as much if not more. I think I would have to take your experience over my hearing the rendered video as the levels don't make it a fair test for the listeners. If you had only one audio you would adjust the volume to the proper level and it would be consistent.
    I also thought the native mic was better than the mod front mic as the mod picked up the airplane noise really bad, yet your voice was more muffled. But the mod back mic seemed comparable to the native mic. You said you had the wind cover on and maybe that was why.
    How did you listen to the various mics? Was it on your desktop speakers, headphones, final video cut or each raw audio?
    Have you ever thought about attaching a magnet to the Rode Transmitter, so you can put a magnet under the shirt or vice versa to attach to shirts that aren't as easily clipped to? This is much like I use a magnet to attach my GoPro to my shirt using the Snap Mount system to quickly switch between devices. I snap to my car suction, then to my shirt and then to my tripod without having to unscrew and screw in my Go Pro.

    • @Gemini_Connect
      @Gemini_Connect  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I listened to the audio with headphones (cheap earbuds and AudioTechnica recording headphones), both in FCPX and raw audio. I haven't thought of using a magnet on the Rode Transmitter, but that is a good idea. We Use snapmounts to put Gopros on the car, but rarely use the shirt mounting feature as it makes the rig too heavy. But that concept would work well for a smaller item like the Rode.
