    This video about making a Dashiki skirt was presented in an excellent way, moving systematically through all the steps at a pace that a new sewer could follow. I have been sewing for about 50 years and I must say that your methods of sewing are perfect! Your teaching style is extremely effective and I think that you should continue to share your skills with others. GREAT JOB!!!

    Great tutorial!!! I love the idea of using the tape as a seam guide. I think that will help me a lot as well as the index card. I appreciate your attention to detail and showing ways/ tools to get the same end result.

    Thank you for this tutorial, it was so easy to understand! I really like the tape on the machine and the index card tips. I'm very grateful you didn't speed up (even with the basic steps), repeated instructions, and did close ups. It made everything make sense, without any guesswork. I can't wait to sew my own skirts now!

    Hello! Whoever has the knowledge to answer this, please feel free
    I’m adding an underskirt to this, will I sew the pockets as instructed (my assumption) or interlayer them somehow? Thank you!
    Edit: answered my own question!! My sewing is still wonky but this skirt was a success!

    Hi. Dashki is actually the style of shirt that this print is usually made with. The fabric is actually Angelina style (Ankara Wax).

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for the input. I put Dashiki in the title because most people will type in dashiki skirt when typing into the search box, so I want to make sure my video gets found.

      lashell elsayed Thank you so much for the compliment 😊. I don’t have a clothes line, I tried having an Etsy shop in the past for my jewelry but I learned that my true passion in life is teaching. Maybe in the future I’ll do a collection of skirts

    Wonderfully taught! I love the use of index cards and tape! Did you attend design school?

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!!! I did not attend design school, I'm self taught. I'm currently still paying off my student loans from my masters program lol. Reading sewing blogs, TH-cam and sewing with commercial patterns have taught me so much. All of my mistakes have truly been my best teacher.

    So I finally purchased a serger but I still can't figure out how to secure the ends of the threads tails so it doesn't unravel when I snip them off. Is there a technique to this?

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations on your new serger. I know the exactly what you are talking about. When using your serger be sure to have a tail of threads that are about 3-5 inches long on both ends. I then use the tail to tie a knot 2-3 times (ate the edge of the fabric) and then I snip the excess threads

    This is awesome thanks. I have the same machine. The area for the presser foot does it slant a little? Mine seem to and being that this is the 2nd one I was wondering if it was normal.

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome. The presser foot shouldn't be slanted, that part should be straight. I do however find the seam allowance guide plate to be off (slanted or uneven), that's why I use the blue painters tape on my machine so that I can sew straight seams. The painters tape has really helped me a lot with this machine.

    • @MontoyaMayo

      I used a cotton dashiki print, non wax. Wax would work fine though.
