    Good job with the video Tom. The 259D and D3 have been great machines for us.

    I had a CAT in my tractor (18 Sheeler) and that never failed me. Power, dependability, and effective pulling power. Question - Are these CAT's still made in the USA?

    LOVE my almost new 259D3. Please don't laugh. I'm an elderly senior. Where would I find how to set the clock on the radio and pair the music to my cell phone? I think I have most of the levers figured out. Okay, I haven't made my "kitty" cry! Friends want to know why I'm calling it my new kitty. I tell them, okay it's a full-grown CAT. It says so on the back, front and sides!

    If they could make those lower side windows easier to clean, it would be perfect. 3k hours on mine and we’ve never had a breakdown. AC vents are kinda cheaply made to, they break easily if you’re tall and you push on them with your knee caps😒. Also my rear hatch above the fan didn’t come with a little hydraulic lift, Or any kind of device to hold it up. And DO NOT dry wipe your windshield.

    • @1SnowFlyer1
      @1SnowFlyer1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What happens if you dry wipe the windshield?

      @1SnowFlyer1 the windows get scratched super easy. The one I'm running is destroyed. It's super hard to see out of

    I could give cat a few tips as to improve these, but they never ever listen !. And before anyone says anything I own 5 of them and the one I hate the most is the d3 cat have gone backwards with it

      @@montel20000 ok, get rid of the new joysticks and go back to the d2 ones get rid of the mesh on side windows add extra button on joysticks for aux 8 put xps in the 257 add iso h pattern as standard, iso is shit ! The d3 is way to twitchy almost dangerous on high rev applications. Be more forward thinking when building machines and thinking about pipe chaff. I could go on, I do love the machines though they cpuld just be better in little ways and considering how much more expensive they are I expect the extra

    • @w900L

      @@chriss7930 these are good points. I have a first gen 257d and am trading it for a new 259. I agree with you on the auxiliary points. I think I can get used to the new joysticks. I like the new fuel filter setup, the hydraulic filler, and the hyd hose accessibility. Most of all, I like the hatch they put in to clean out inside underbody. I always liked the responsiveness and speed of the Cat. You say the D3 is even more sensitive. You know how it is, you just get used to it. I’ve grown to appreciate a more sensitive machine. I’ve also gotten good at using snail mode.

    • @chriss7930
      @chriss7930 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@w900L the new fuel system is basicly the same as the c series which was better than the d2 as it couldn't get any worse than the d2, that was an abortion !. My guy that operates the d3 has said you get used to it but I drive them all and that one I can't get used to but suppose it will come when I have to drive one. The sail mode need to be programmable so can go faster back than forward it's good we use it all the time but when on high rev applications and you need to back up it's all over the place and in snail it's to slow

    The skinny bit of metal that holds the safety bar is rubbish will vibrate and break , air con filter is above the track ? Y ? Filthy filter in no time ' engine belt cover is the same as the d2 and will flog out and become unstable ' the hose routing under the cab is crap ' hoses will rub against each other and cause continuous issues, all the things are prone to breaking and fatigue are the same as the previous model and for some extrordinary reason have not changed ? I can say this as i have both a 299 d2 and 259 d , very troublesome little machines

    Again, no one knows what the buttons on the right joystick are for. I wonder if Cat even knows what they do because their demo operators don't seem to.

    Oil filter?

  • @libertarian1637
    @libertarian1637 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the “easy access cab” maybe but not nearly as easy access as a JCB or Volvo; once you go to either of them you’ll never want to go back to over the bucket entry. Nice video though.

    • @youngguns1319
      @youngguns1319 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jcb and Volvo are basically the same skidder the bad thing about them is they won’t let you do a lot of the work on them your self

    • @libertarian1637
      @libertarian1637 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@youngguns1319: That’s a lot of brands today; unfortunately the push to computerization of everything has lead to a lot of software and serial number locks. It’s hard to beat the repairability of the older machines; recall working on some older machines and everything was basically mechanical and as long as you maintained them they’d keep going. John Deere really kicks their customers in the ass with their new ideas on repair as I have a friend still running a 1940s Deere which basically is just an engine attaches to a transmission and hydronic pump with nothing that isn’t needed on it. A machine today without software support is worthless as the manufacturer can simply deactivate the machine in violation of the law, laws which aren’t enforced.
