  • The Best Coyote Trapping Advice for Rookies | Predator Trapping 101
Join a family of trappers as they run a real line in tough, frozen conditions on a farm they've never trapped in western Kentucky. Along the way you'll learn the basics of making an effective dirt-hole set for coyotes, how to properly bed traps, and how to choose trapping locations in a new area. You'll get to see a couple coyote catches and a bobcat, too.

I’m glad/grateful that Realtree is showing videos about trapping/predator removal! It’s something that is hunters should focus more on!

I’m a teacher in British Columbia Canada and take students out to my trapline 4-5 days a week. We have a TH-cam channel documenting the line with students. I’m always learning new techniques and info to pass on to my students. Glad I found your channel

Nice video, I trap my property for same reason. Each year I see the pheasant, turkey, and deer populations getting bigger. And the rabbits. That first coyote will get you hooked. Trying to outsmart them into stepping on your traps

Keep extra bucket of dry dirt for blending traps in when it's muddy out. Old barns, under bridges usually you can access the dirt

Question: This is my first yr trapping. I’m using Bridger #2 dogless too…. I’ve had 3 coyotes escape now! Finding fur and catch circle but no dog. How is this happening??? I use pest moss, wax dirt, salt combo..

Sounds like they may be rolling on your set. If the hair is long they are setting the trap off with there body. Try putting lure and bait deep in the hole. Avoid the skunky smells to close to your trap. The like to roll in the smelly stuff.

Try adjusting your pan tension to 3.5-4 lbs, should get better pad catch with that. Won’t pull out

Tighten up your pans make sure traps are all firing crisp and bed them tight you've had atleast one roller not sure how far these sets are apart but you got educated dogs now your gonna have to be creative to get them to commit I would def look for a less conventional set next to your other set or just a little distance down the travel way with different bait or lure stay committed and keep them traps firing on the incoming fronts you'll get him !

Coyote populations should not merely be controlled for Numbers, but Size as well. Larger Coyotes kill 110,000 Cattle a year. Smaller Coyotes also have a shorter period of time when Goat Kids and Sheep Lambs are considered highly desirable Popsicles. State Natural Resources Wildlife Biologists should have the live catch traps to conduct ongoing capture operations and dispatch those deemed to be too large and release the small and average size Coyotes. This should apply to Bobcats as well.

It's hard to show up somewhere and set traps and be successful. I do think you can get a little closer with your dispatch... However great first couple of days.

The beginning where he says all the deer standing around looking and that means “obviously nothing in that trap” is extremely false being as deer are curious animals. I’ve caught wolves amd as I’m coming across the field theirs 3 or 4 deer 50-100 yards of it
